Its pretty obvious at some point in time TNA decided to shift the focus from their '' No Limits'' X division to their more recognizable names. That were building a true alternative to the wwe and it was to a certain extent a niche product, aimed primarily at diehard smart wrestling fans.
What or who do you think got in their ear and influenced a drastic change in the product?
I myself think it was a combo of Angle/Nash trying to modify it to match their needs and them thinking Tna wrestlers were too bland, apparently being taken serious makes you bland.
I also think they recieved a load of pressure from Spike to lure in viewers with again........... recognizable ''talent'' and i use that word loosely- Nash.
Im quite interested to hear when or what you guys think made TNA change so drastically.

Jeff Hardy, Christian, Kurt Angle. Both of those guys matched TNA's original vision perfectly. Christian is very very different than any of their other former wwe wcw wrestlers, he has a work ethic and always puts 100 percent effort into his work imo. Jeff had no impact on TNA's product at all if you think about. Angle i agree with you on. I clearly remember him saying the x division guys needed gimmicks

Maybe a combination of alot of things. Russo, Jarrett, Angle, ect.
I wish they would go back to concentrating on the X-Division over all.

Because of a horribly mistaken belief that name value of a wrestler translates to name value of a wrestling promotion. It is in fact a wrestling promotion that instills name value in a wrestler, not vice-versa. That is why the easy road of buying big names and expecting the pro wrestling fanbase to jizz all over themselves for TNA isn't working. A promotion earns name value. Not through wrestlers' name value but by filling an empty niche and marketing the crap out of what makes your product different, and more importantly delivering on it.

Look at late WCW, what really killed the product? Vince Russo. Who is supposedly the head booker right now? Vince Russo. I swear if he comes on TV again as an authority figure, I'll be done with TNA forever. I am proud he changed his stance on foreigners though. Although the only titles he'll seem to give them are foreign titles.

I completely agree that the wrestlers themselves matched their original vision. What I am saying is that big name guys like this signing and jumping ship changed TNA's focus. Christian wasn't thrown in the x-division, and for the most part, Jeff was in the main event scene (at least upper mid-carder scene). So while their styles could have matched things that TNA was originally known for, the opportunity was missed because of their name and where they came from. They turned the focus away from the action and on to the name. Not that the action was not good. I think Christian was wonderful in TNA and I think he was good for them, to an extent. I do think it altered management's views, so that's what I referenced. Sorry for being unclear.

I really wish they would be more picky with these former wwe talents and only pick up the guys who could really fit the TNA mold.

I like to think that it was the network. But considering that the ratings really haven't improved that much since bringing guys like Angle and Booker, I doubt that's it.
Everyone seems to blame Vince Russo but he can't be blamed solely. There's people with much more authority that ultimately make the decisions.
TNA has definitely lost sight of their original goal.

I'm guessing they didn't want to change the product all that drastically, it just sort of happened when they hired the likes of Angle and Nash.
