I'm a Morgan fan. No doubt. When he first came around I saw a guy with potential and a good look.....this was his TE days. However, I didnt think he had much else. I saw him as an E guy who would just be that big guy brute who gets beat.....IE Mike Knox, Snitsky, etc. Titles? Meh...maybe a tag belt here and there.
The more I saw of him in WWE, the more I said.....yup, thats who this guy is. While he was tall, he just never seemed like a 7ft monster. He seemed more like a 6'6" big guy. No gimmick. Nothing that made him stand out and no reason to see a future for the guy. His in ring work needed work. His mic. skills non existant. And his ability to sell, below average.
Then Morgan shows up in TNA. And immediately I am thinking, I love this body guard gimmick for Cornette. Dont think much of his in ring, but the gimmick was better than what we were seeing in WWE.
Finally we get Morgan in the ring and there is improvement. His raspy voiced promos were boring, but he had a gimmick and still had the look. He seemed to have bulked up and actually started to have a "monster" look about him. Morgan's teaming with Abyss and the feud with Beer Money.....meh. I thought it put Morgan back in that same stale role he was in before in the WWE. But then he turned heel. And then got a little cocky. How many times do you see a "monster size guy" be cocky? I liked it. The DNA of TNA.....The Blueprint. The bodyguard gimmick gone. The monster....gone. Now we had The Blue Print. And the more we see, the better it gets. A strong gimmick, better ring work and some unique moves. Morgan is growing.
Enter Main Event Mafia. Morgan wants to join. Interesting. I will say I think Morgan going babyface is LONG overdue and him turning on Kurt.....also long over due. But its finally happened. I am excited for a Morgan/Kurt feud. I hope it goes down. I love the gimmick. I love the look. I love The Carbon Footprint and I love The Hellavator. It fits. It works.
Dont get me wrong, I dont expect Matt Morgan to be ruling the roost. I dont expect a title run.......YET. The push they want to give Hernandez, is the push Matt Morgan needs. I love Hernandez. He is by far a great worker and superior to Morgan in the ring. However, his promos are lacking. His look......poor. I hate his ring gear.
What are your opinions of Matt Morgan and what do you see for his future?
