It seems as Mattel plans to do exactly what Jakks did....base their line around the BASIC figures, just like Jakks based their line around RA.
Basic figures will get single packs, double packs, entrance gear packs, Wrestlemania packs, superstar match up packs....and then all the flex force stuff
Jakks had RA figures get the main line, AD packs, PPV packs,....
And all of us DA collectors get 6 figures every 3 months or so.
And it seems as though Mattel is going to do the same thing with the Elite figures. They announced so many lines the other day, and all of them are for BASIC figures except ONE.
I'm just worried that for all of us who are ONLY going to buy the Elite line, that we won't be able to bulk up our rosters fast enough with ONLY 1 line.
Right off the bat, people who will buy the basic line can get:
Triple H HBK John Cena Batista Big Show Kofi Bourne Rey Stone Cold Edge Santino Beth DiBiase Rhodes Jericho
And us Elite Collectors will only be able to start off with:
MVP CM Punk Edge Undertaker Rey
That's a 15-5 difference.
Perhaps Mattel should think about doing what Jakks failed to do with DA's, and that's release Elite 2-packs, and other Elite themed lines. But by their initial set breakdowns, it certainly doesn't appear that Elite will be produced with any more frequency than Jakks did with DA...and that is somewhat disappointing.
Any thoughts?

Elite 2-packs would be great but will the cost put people off? mattel's prices have already got some people complaning on here :-\ imo if the elite lines sell well i think they'd be silly not to give us more.
Basic im not surprised we will get more of since its a normal prce range and will probably more ideal to sell to parents ect.

They announced the first 3 sets of Elite figures along with the first 3 sets of basic singles. Since the basic singles are coming out 1 series per month, one would assume that the Elite line would ALSO be 1 series per month.
Gonna be an EXPENSIVE 2010...

The only reason the Basics outnumber the Elites is because of the PPV and Two-Pack lines. Taken individually, each line has 6 figures per wave (except for the first Elite line, which was supposed to include Jeff) so they're even in that regard. I'd love for them to find a reason to release more Elites, but being the more specialized line aimed at the more hardcore buyer, I can understand why Basic is the bread-and-butter line. And since Basics and Elites "play nice" with each other, I (and my wallet) can forgive them for that.
Also, a lot of the first wave of Basics and Two-Pack figs get Elite versions in Feb and March while the Elites will get a Basic version. Because of that overlap, the gap between the two lines (in terms of who among the roster gets released) won't be that great. This month's Basic could be next month's Elite, and vice versa.

I think they should release Elite two packs but the price would be like $40+! Would people actually buy it if it was that much?

It depends I hate DA figs because they suck, the 1st few series were okay then they just sucked. I buy DA for the heads only and trade what bodies I get.

The retail on individual Elite figures is only $14.99, and typically 2-packs are a little cheaper than buying individuals. The MSRP would actually be more like $27.99, which isn't terrible.

But really, what's the difference between buying two Elite figures at 14.99 per figure, or picking up a 2 pack? I only suggest 2 packs because it would be a way to get MORE Elite figures out at a time, thus letting them make more characters faster. Because when the initial Mattel sets hit in January 2010 there will be 15 Basic characters and ONLY 5 Elite characters.

Although if they had 2packs it would be te same amount as the other line, still 6 figures, and true people are already complaining about prices... who knows why.
And i believe Elite will be released with the same timeline as the basic figures, with 3 sets named for each already iwould say they would be the main two lines.

But some stars dont require being elite. Only those that really need accessories and stuff get elite treatment. Given all lines are in scale, they all fit together and are easily mixed and matched so the separate lines wont really be an issue.

Given all lines are in scale, they all fit together and are easily mixed and matched so the separate lines wont really be an issue. Dude that is so not true. Look at the pictures. Elite has NOTHING to do with accessories. The Elite body types are COMPLETELY different! Elite figures are like DA with ball jointed hips, extra knee articulation, and a jointed torso. The basic figures look to have NO articulation at all, just like RA! So YES, all figures DO deserve to be in Elite form becaue some people want the extra articulation and believe it's worth the price. For example, it wouldn't be fair if BASIC collectors got Rhodes and DiBiase, but they were NEVER made in Elite form because they don't have any accessories in real life...that's not fair as I would want Rhodes and DiBiase in Elite form with more articulation, just like RA and DA collectors of Jakks wanted characters in their favorite body type. And to jonomvpballin, I don't think it's possible to have 3 series of Elite figures released at the same time...that would be like Jakks releasing DA19, DA20, and DA 21 all at the same time...but we all know that DA series were released like every 3 or 4 MONTHS! I bought DA21 in the middle of July. It's now OCTOBER and I still haven't found DA22, as they haven't hit all stores in all places yet....and Mattel has a reputation for releasing figures SLOWER in more spaced out WAVES. Mattel isn't even going to release multiple BASIC stets, the only reason they will get 15 characters at the same time is because Basic singles, 2-packs, WM heritage, entrance gear packs and match ups are all in BASIC style and they will all be released around the SAME TIME...they won't release Basic series 1, 2, and 3 within 2 weeks of each other. It will be at least a few months in between JUST like RA. Jakks never released multiple RA series at the same time, but we have MORE RA characters available at one time because RA, AD, PPV and TT are all RA STYLE!

I think you misinterpreted what i meant. I know there is more articulation in Elite however thats half the deal with elite. They are more articulation but also extra accessories and things. However it isnt quite fair to say basic has no articulation cause they have some just limited by comparison to elite. I get what your saying, and i tihnk what i was saying also applies. With RA/DA, DA was bigger by a fair bit, but Elite/Basic will be the same scale with the aforementioned differences. But as i said and you eluded too, it will be a long time before we see (if we ever do see) some guys appear in the elite line. Kane, Knox, Santino, Jericho, etc dont normally have accessories and therefore they wil be lower in prioerity for being given Elite treatment. So i think that for quite a while, collectors will be forced to buy a combo to get complete rosters because some will only after a LONG (if at all) time get Elite treatment. That's what i was referring to. Trust me, id love if we got lines purely as Elite, but it aint that way, and im just stating what i can see happenning.

Yeah i think you misinterpreted me aswell, i didn't mean that they would all be released within 2 weeks of each other i meant they would be released together as in, in one month we would have a Basic series, 2 packs and 1 elite series. Then repeat the next.
Yes they do have more articulation but like KIDM said there main niche is the Exclusive clothing.
The only difference between basic and elite is the articulation elite has 4 or 6 more points. Which may be a big difference to others, but as stated at least they are in scale with the others.
It's true we can't always have our way but thats how it is.

I guess we'll find out what the guys without notable ring attire come with in Elite Wave 2 when Batista shows up. He doesn't even really have an iconic T-shirt. Here's hoping for belts and/or weapons for these.
Also, to KIDM - funny you should mention Santino as someone low on the Elite fig totem pole. He's announced for Wave 3. I could see him coming with his blue soccer-style shirt or that newer red one, though.

They could do something completely unexpected and have a cloth tights for santino so you can strap them down off his shoulders and maybe with a tshirt. Batista could come in a cloth suit? He's always in a suit so that would be great, and then you can take the suit off and its in ring attire. Now that would be awesome only have to buy one figure of each then. High hopes..
