Spike TV Airs Two UFC 106 Preliminary Fights Commercial-Free on Nov. 21
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Nov 11, 2009 at 3:15 pm ET
Spike TV today officially announced that two bouts from next week's UFC 106 preliminary card will air on the cable station as a lead-in to the night's pay-per-view-televised main card.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) reported the news on Tuesday, though Spike TV officials could not confirm the Nov. 21 broadcast plans at the time.
As part of today's official announcement, Spike TV confirmed Marcus Davis (16-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) vs. Ben Saunders (7-1-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) and Kendall Grove (10-6 MMA, 5-3 UFC) vs. Jake Rosholt (6-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) both air commercial free as part of the broadcast special.
UFC 106, headlined by Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin II, takes place Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
The Spike TV broadcasts airs live at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT), an hour prior to the PPV start time.
The UFC first decided to do a Spike TV two-bout preliminary card broadcast in September for UFC 103 as part of a large promotional push to counter the night's Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Juan Manuel PPV boxing offering. The Spike TV special proved so successful (with 1.4 million viewers) that the UFC put together a similar broadcast preview for UFC 104, which drew another 1.4 million viewers.
The official UFC 106 card includes:
MAIN CARD
Forrest Griffin vs. Tito Ortiz
Anthony Johnson vs. Josh Koscheck
Phil Baroni vs. Amir Sadollah
Luiz Cane vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Dustin Hazelett vs. Karo Parisyan
PRELIMINARY CARD (Spike TV)
Marcus Davis vs. Ben Saunders
Kendall Grove vs. Jake Rosholt
PRELIMINARY CARD (un-aired)
Paulo Thiago vs. Jacob Volkmann
Brian Foster vs. Brock Larson
Fabricio Camoes vs. Caol Uno
Jason Dent vs. George Sotiropoulos
Once again, I couldn't be happier.
