Dana White: Karo Parisyan Pulled Out of UFC 106, Not Fighting Saturday by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Nov 19, 2009 at 3:20 pm ET
UFC 106 main-card fighter Karo Parisyan, who was scheduled to fight fellow welterweight prospect Dustin Hazelett on Saturday, is no longer part of the card and will never fight again in the organization, according to UFC president Dana White.
White posted a scathing message about the veteran fighter on his Twitter account this afternoon.
Fans can learn more when MMAjunkie.com streams today's UFC 106 pre-event press conference at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT).
"Karo Parisyan has [expletive] over the UFC, the fans and his opponent again!!!" White wrote. "He will not be fighting Saturday or ever again in the UFC!!"
In a follow-up message, White stated Parisyan "pulled out of the fight the day before weigh-ins again with a laundry list of excuses."
Parisyan (18-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) was set to return from a drug suspension (prescription painkillers) issued following his win over Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 94 in January. (The win was eventually overturned to a no-decision.) Parisyan also ran into trouble when a September 2008 UFC 88 bout with Yoshiyuki Yoshida was scratched last minute because of a back injury. About the same time, the fighter opened up about panic attacks that have plagued his career.
Hazelett (12-4 MMA, 5-2 UFC, who tore his ACL prior to a booked fight with Ben Saunders in March and hasn't fought since Nov. 15, 2008, will apparently be scratched from the card. White posted another follow-up message stating Hazelett will be paid his show and win money.
In a text message, Hazelett told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he hadn't heard anything official by 4 p.m. ET.
Let the speculation BEGIN!!!!!! Dana's last 3 twitters were hilarious.

Karo's an idiot. Always has been always will be. He just doesn't get it. He3 thinks he should be the biggest star in the UFC and since he isn't and he isn't in main event fights, he backs out. The guy really is a bitch.

Not sad at all to see Karo go. He's got no one to blame but himself. It's always one excuse after another. I honestly think the athletic commission wouldn't have come down on him so hard if he had just man'd up and admitted that he was on painkillers. Instead he tried to hide behind the excuse that a commissioner ok'd it, which obviously pissed off the commission.
He was a great fighter in the rare instances when his mind was as focused as his fighting prowess, but he's proven time and time again that he can't and shouldn't be trusted.
I'm honestly glad to see him go.

NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer told Sherdog.com Thursday that Parisyan had already been fully licensed last January and was cleared to fight this Saturday. Kizer said Parisyan had not been required to take a pre-fight drug test for the painkillers he had been flagged for in January, as they would be tested the night of the bout.
Parisyan had contacted Kizer a few weeks ago to discuss a “nagging, lingering injury,” Kizer said, and asked what proper medications he could take prior to the bout. Kizer said he instructed Parisyan that Tylenol and icing was the safest method, but encouraged the fighter to have his physician send in a letter stating his injuries and what medications he was taking for it, so the NSAC doctor could work with him.
Kizer spoke again with Parisyan within the last week to discuss a payment plan for the $32,000 fine the fighter had previously accrued. Kizer said that NSAC Chairman Pat Lundvall had agreed to disperse payment for the fine out of the fighter's show and win purse for this weekend.
“We knew (Parisyan) was having some financial difficulties and wanted to try and help him,” Kizer told Sherdog.com.
It was agreed that $16,000 would be deducted from each purse and in the case of a loss, Parisyan would make further arrangements to settle up the remaining balance. Kizer said Parisyan seemed pleased with the arrangement.
The welterweight contest between Parisyan and Hazelett was scheduled for the UFC 106 main card. White said on Twitter that Hazelett will be paid his show and win purses.

I love seeing Judo throws which is the only reason I would watch his fights, didn't care for the guy otherwise. Does this mean his Series 3 figure will be completely scrapped? Wouldn't surprise me if it was canned completely.

I used to be a huge fan of the guy...not really technically skilled as far as striking goes but he would throw with anyone...he showed that in his fight with Nick Diaz...his throws were beautiful...His fight with Diego remains one of my favorite fights of all time...but his last handful of fights were nothing special. It sucks that a guy with so much potential could be such a b**** in terms of his personality. I'll never forget his loss to Alves when he just pushed Randy Couture away...Just accept it man...throwing a temper tantrum isn't going to help at all.
