Before the official start of WrestleMania, a twelve team over the top rope battle royal for the Unified Tag Team Championships takes place. The World's Greatest Tag Team defeat The Dudebusters, The Hart Dynasty, Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre, The Colóns, William Regal and Richie Steamboat, The Fortunate Sons, The Usos, Goldust and Santino Marella, Zack Ryder and Justin Gabriel, Mason Ryan and Duke Rotundo, and The South Beach Party Boys.
As the pay-per-view begins, the Georgia Dome is scanned over where the crowd is going completely wild for the start of the grandest stage of them all! Hall of Fame ring announcer Howard Finkel's booming voice echos throughout the arena, welcoming everybody to the twenty-seventh anniversary of WrestleMania! The crowd continues to go crazy as 'The Fink' gives the cue for everybody to turn their attention to the performing stage near the titantron! Steven Tyler of Aerosmith emerges to a nice ovation from the crowd, and he proceeds to burst out with his still fantastic vocals the National Anthem, the crowd giving a loud applause following the performance as we fade to a video package for the event upcoming!
A slow intro with "Kiss Your Past Goodbye" by Aerosmith
"The Show Goes On" blasts as we come into the arena, the phenomenal pyrotechnic display signifying the official start. The legendary voice of Good Ol' Jim Ross introduces everybody - once again - to WrestleMania, the grandest stage of them all! Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler are joining him for this show, and they discuss the huge matches coming up tonight, including the very emotional main event scheduled between Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho. They pass things on to the Spanish announce team of Carlos Cabrera and Hugo Savinowich, as we get ready to start the show off!
Edge vs The Miz
The bell rings as the Rated R Superstar and the Awesome One stare each other down before confronting to the middle of the ring, locking up to kick things off here for action at WrestleMania! Edge backs him up into the corner and hits a series of elbows before backing off, Miz sending a sudden kick to the abdomen. He twists the arm behind Edge's back and pushes him off to the ropes, missing a clothesline and being kicked in the stomach and dropped with a hard DDT. Edge goes for the early pinfall, but only gets a two count. They both get up on opposite sides of the ring and step back up, Miz jabbing a thumb into the eye. He fires off hard strikes to the head viciously and gets pulled away by the referee at the count of four in the corner. Miz returns and drives his foot into Edge's throat, using the ropes for leverage as he chokes his opponent. He lets the count run again before slipping outside of the ring and taking Edge by the leg, smashing it into the ring post multiple times! He re-enters the ring and continues work on the leg, ignoring the pleas of the referee. Miz brings Edge to the middle of the ring and applies a single-legged boston crab, working him hard. Edge scrambles a lot, trying to find a way to get free, and after about a minute he gets near the ropes. Miz pulls himself off and drags him back to the middle of the ring, Edge rolling himself over and pushing Miz off with his good leg. Edge gets up to a knee, Miz coming off the ropes, and he sends a huge knee into the jaw of the Rated R Superstar! The crowd boos him highly, Miz standing tall and taunting over his opponent. He drags him up by his hair, giving a bit of trash talk, but it's a little too much as Edge pushes him off and fires some hard strikes of his own on the return. He gets on a roll and nails a series of clotheslines and then a automatic drop, and a big boot to cap it all off. He holds onto his bad leg, however, seeming to have used too much pressure on the balance of it. He keeps it up with some stomps, with support of the ropes, with the good leg. Miz staggers up in the corner and misses a blind clothesline, Edge striking him in the gut and nailing a very large Edgecution! He covers Miz slowly, getting a two count as Miz places his foot out onto the bottom rope. Edge can't believe it as he struggles back up, getting Miz onto his feet once again, a rake of the eyes getting caught by the official but Miz completely ignores him and rushes up behind his rival, nailing the Skull Crushing Finale dead center of the ring! He rolls Edge over and a slow count on the pinfall just barely being kicked out of! The Miz is completely furious and begins to yell at the referee, demanding he get things right the next time. He forces Edge back onto his feet but gets both his legs caught and he is tripped to the mat! Edge struggles to get his leg across the body and Miz manages to roll back, shoving off Edge into the referee, slamming him down to the ground! Miz quickly realizes the situation and delivers a huge forearm once Edge gets back onto his feet! The crowd boos wildly as he steps out of the ring, taunting with a grin. He storms over to the time keeper and gets him out of his chair, getting back into the ring and awaiting the rise. Referee Charles Robinson comes rushing down to the ring, however, and Miz begins to question him as the chair is struggled to be taken away. As Robinson gets the chair out of the ring, Miz storms up to Edge against the ropes and nails him with a low blow kick! The crowd continues going nuts with boos as he forces him towards the middle of the ring, planting him once again with the Skull Crushing Finale! He rolls Edge over and hooks both legs, slowly getting the three count!
Winner of the match via pinfall, The Miz (10:18) ***1/4
Miz pops up to his feet as the crowd begins to boo wildly at his cheap victory. He ascends the to the top rope of each corner, giving his taunt of celebration and exits the ring, heading up the ramp with his fists in the air as Edge rolls onto his side, looking up to his cheap victor, The Miz giving a cocky grin as he heads to the back, Edge flopping onto his back in disappointment of his loss.
We cut backstage to Vince McMahon in his office, face in his hands. Stephanie comes walking into the room and she sits down, the crowd inside cheering for her appearance. She gives a smile to her father. "What the hell are you doing here!?" He says quietly, "I don't need your support." Stephanie laughs a bit and pats him on the back, "Don't worry, Dad, I'm not here for you at all, I'm here for my husband - I just felt like being nice and stopping in, wishing you luck when you face The Undertaker." She gives another flash of a smile before leaving, Vince once again throwing his face into his hands.
Christian vs Kane
The bell rings and Christian fires away at the man who crushed his throat at Survivor Series. He is floored to the mat and Kane rocks him up against the corner and gets the upper hand only to be knocked back with some strikes. Christian props himself onto the second turnbuckle and flings himself off, hooking hold of the head, and tilts Kane around into a huge DDT. He hooks the far leg and only gets a two count. Christian pulls himself back to his feet and stomps away at the Big Red Machine before helping him back up, getting snapped in the jaw with a huge uppercut strike. Kane then clotheslines him over the top rope, Christian staying on the apron. He reaches over and drags his rival up, Christian quickly hanging Kane up on the top rope and hopping onto the apron right after again, climbing to the top turnbuckle and diving off with a huge forearm to the face and a pinfall attempt only for a two count. They both get up and Kane grabs hold of the throat, Christian quickly kicking the knee and sending furious amounts of shots to the forehead, followed by a kick to the stomach. He goes for the Killswitch but Kane pulls free as he it can't get locked in and he delivers a ginormous chokeslam in the middle of the ring! He laughs demonically before slowly dropping down and hooking the far leg, shocked to only get a two count. Kane puts his hands over his head and can't believe it, yelling at the referee. He drags Christian back up and holds him by the back of the neck, saying some things to him that can't be deciphered. He grasps him by the throat again and lifts him up, Christian hooking the head and pulling him to the mat hard into a small package for the sudden three count!
Winner of the match via pinfall, Christian (6:24) **
Christian quickly pops up to his feet and ducks a shot from Kane as he is already up as well. Christian sends shot after shot to the head and gets thrown into the corner. He avoids a clothesline and clips the legs fast, rolling out of the ring. He grabs a steel chair from under the ring and gets back in, striking Kane across the back. He does it multiple times but he won't go down until a huge shot right into the head! The crowd goes wild as Christian calls for a microphone. "I'm going to do to you... what you did to me... you son of a bitch..." He tosses it away, the crowd roaring some more as he hooks the chair around Kane's throat! The referee begs and pleads as he climbs to the middle turnbuckle with a sick smirk. He motions the crowd to cheer on as he jumps off and snaps the chair around Kane's throat, the monster flopping around viciously, pulling the chair off as he coughs up graphically. Christian exits the ring with a smile of satisfaction as he heads up the ramp, Kane getting help from the medics, a stretcher even brought out to get him. Christian taunts atop the ramp before heading to the back, victorious and getting his vengeance all here tonight at WrestleMania.
We head to a video package advertising the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view from February now available on DVD. Coming back live to the arena, we see Tony Chimel in the ring where he announces that it is now time for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, where the winner of the match will receive a contract to have a WWE or World Heavyweight Championship match at any time of their choosing in the next year!
Money in the Bank Ladder Match
United States Champion Jack Swagger vs Alex Riley vs Ted DiBiase vs Wade Barrett vs Dolph Ziggler w/Kaitlyn vs Ezekiel Jackson vs Kofi Kingston vs Intercontinental Champion John Morrison vs Sheamus vs Rey Mysterio
The bell tolls and a whole cluster of things go on to start things off, everybody brawling before getting out of the ring and scrambling to get a ladder. The only person to get back into the ring with one, however, is Swagger. He sets it up and begins his ascension but Mysterio rushes into the ring and scurries up behind him as he reaches for the case, grabbing Swagger's leg and tugging on it. Jack kicks with his other foot but gets pulled down to the mat hard. Meanwhile on the outside, Sheamus nails a huge brogue kick to Riley and plants him up against the barricade. He is met by a ladder right to the chest though by Big Zeke, whom follows around the ring and smashes the ladder into DiBiase. Kingston suddenly comes flying through the ropes and takes Zeke out with the ladder dropping on top of him as well! Barrett is now in the ring and he trades shots with Mysterio in one corner while Morrison and Swagger work away in the other. The face duo get whipped to the middle of the ring but they duck clotheslines from each other and dropkick the others right through the ropes! Morrison struggles to get the ladder straightened up and he begins to climb, Mysterio right on the other side. Ziggler storms into the ring and grabs hold of the two sides, Morrison and Mysterio begging him not to tip it over, but the reigning King of the Ring does it anyway and plants them against the ropes and down to the mat hard. He sets the ladder back up and looks around, quickly pushing the ladder forward into the face of an oncoming Swagger, then Jackson, and Riley before being blindsided by Sheamus with the Brogue Kick! He looks up the ladder and grabs hold of it, starting his own climb but he is suddenly struck with a huge springboard kick from Kingston, snapping him down to the mat! DiBiase, Morrison, Mysterio, Barrett, Kofi, and Ziggler all have themselves up and two more ladders soon get brought into play. Mysterio and Ziggler climb one, Morrison and Barrett another, and Kingston with DiBiase for the third. They all struggle atop them, each trying to get the upper hand with getting the briefcase. A fourth ladder even comes into play too as Riley and Swagger get up themselves. Sheamus and Zeke come up opposing the ladders and give each other a nod, grasping hold of two of them, tipping over a whole group and then the other two as well. Sheamus tries to cheap shot as soon as that team work is done and strikes Zeke before getting floored to the mat with a huge clothesline. Zeke is furious as he takes one of the ladders and drives it into Sheamus viciously over and over again. Morrison comes rushing at him, though, and slides himself parkour-esque over the ladder and takes Zeke over the top rope, ladder toppling over them both! The brawl continues in the ring and everybody begins to spill out of the ring as the Celtic Warrior, Sheamus, has risen back up and gone wild with the ladder. He is sent out of the ring by DiBiase with a clothesline to bring them both out, the ladder staying in. Swagger brings himself slowly up to it, getting it into the middle of the ring. As he begins to get near the top though, Kingston rushes up to it and manages to fire off at Swagger. He gets caught by his hair and his face is driven into the ladder. Kingston slides down a bit and Swagger reaches up to the case, Kofi staggering back up some as he pulls himself up to the last rung, swinging the case into Swagger's face. He then pulls himself up to a standing position and looks around at the crowd, quickly pulling himself over Jack's head and hooking hold of the waist, trying to drag him down. Swagger fights with him though and manages to use all of his strength to bring Kofi up next to him, and he gets his foot out on the middle. Kingston jumps up suddenly and spins out a bit, nailing the Trouble in Paradise in mid air as he comes crashing to the mat! Swagger stalls on the ladder before flopping down heavily. Morrison returns himself to the ring and sets a ladder up in between the ropes and standing one. He pulls himself up onto the one he just placed but Zeke comes into the ring, JoMo jumping off at him but getting caught by the throat and legs. Zeke lifts him up high and slams him right down and onto that very ladder! The crowd boo loud as Morrison is laid out on it. Mysterio comes from behind and swings himself between the ropes hitting a 619 to the gut! He then springboards himself to Zeke but gets caught on the shoulders and powerbombed right on top of JoMo and through the ladder, the crowd going even more nuts with boos as Zeke pounds his chest and taunts to the crowd. DiBiase stammers behind him and begins to go up the ladder, quickly being yanked down by Jackson. They trade blows back and forth and Ted ducks under one and pulls him back against the ropes in a full nelson, Swagger and Barrett storming over and hitting huge boots to both faces, dropping them to the outside floor. Barrett quickly ducks an expected shot and hits a huge Wasteland up near the corner and he looks around to all the downed bodies and ascends himself slowly up the ladder, a huge grin across his face. Kingston gets himself back up though and he quickly brings one of the down ladders up and leans it into the other one. He quickly goes up it behind Barrett but Ziggler comes out of nowhere from behind and hits the Zig Zag right on top of it, dropping to the mat as Kingston is laid out. Barrett realizes the complete opportunity and gets to the top of the ladder! He grabs hold of the case and struggles a bit before unhooking it, victorious!
Winner of the match and Mr. Money in the Bank, Wade Barrett (16:03) ***
Barrett shoves the briefcase high up in the air, yelling out to the crowd in celebration. They boo him heavily as he lowers it a bit, giving off a huge grin to all of them. He pounds on his chest and sits on the top of the ladder as replays from the match air including the Trouble in Paradise to Swagger on the ladder, Jackson slamming Mysterio through Morrison and the ladder, the Zig Zag to Kofi at the end, and lastly Barrett winning the match all together.
We cut backstage to Todd Grisham and he introduces his guest at this time to be Rob Van Dam. He asks him about facing CM Punk tonight. "You know, Todd, Punk has been criticizing my lifestyle for years and years and he finally decided to say something about it when I returned in January after my few months off... but listen, dude, this is not just any regular battle, I'm gonna knock that 'Punk' off his HIGH horse for good." He gives a chuckle and walks off, the crowd cheering on as we cut over to Matt Striker, who introduces his guest to be Rob's opponent, CM Punk. He comes into the frame with a fresh new hair cut, which Striker compliments him on and asks what that change is for. Punk snickers, "You know, I just wanted to make a point. I've been trying to help Rob make a drastic change, and I decided to make a drastic change. But you know, they know, Rob knows, and of course I know - he's not going to make the right decision because the only one around here making the right decision lately seems to be me - the best in the world, CM Punk. So I'm going to go out there and I am going to destroy Rob.. Van.. Dam.." He walks off for his match.
Rob Van Dam vs CM Punk
The bell rings and the opponents wander around the ring before locking up, Punk taking RVD over and down to the mat in a headlock. RVD fights back and gets them up to their feet again and they begin a vicious back and forth strike fight, Punk getting the upper hand and getting him into the corner and forcing the referee to pull him away. The Whole Dam Show steps out from the corner and Punk clotheslines him to the mat and goes for the Anaconda Vice out of nowhere! RVD kicks around quickly though and gets the ropes. Punk gets up quickly and drags him out to the middle of the ring only to be kicked out through the ropes. He hops back onto the apron but RVD nails a huge spinning wheel kick that drops Punk down on the steel steps face first. The crowd cheers on as Punk staggers onto his feet up against the barricade and turns to Van Dam atop the turnbuckle, and he comes flying with a forearm to send them both into the barricade with a loud 'ooh' from the crowd. He stammers up and signals the thumbs for a chant of his own name, "Rob! Van! Dam!" He grabs Punk by the neck and drags him back into the ring at the count of six and goes for the pinfall, only getting a two count. RVD pulls him back up once again and brings him into the corner, shoving some shoulders into the gut before flipping backwards. He charges back but gets a kick right into the jaw and a bulldog before he can fall flat. Punk hooks the far leg and gets a near fall. A quick series of strikes before dragging him back up and nailing a hard powerslam. He flies off the ropes and returns with a leg drop, then a second one, a third, a fourth, and climbs to the top turnbuckle. He sends off with a huge splash and hooks both legs up for a two count. He stands up and wanders around the downed body of his rival before dragging him up by the straps of his gear. Punk lifts him in an atomic drop and begins to spin out, RVD reversing it in the air and dropping him with a huge DDT! He pops back up and Punk follows slowly, getting met with a set of kicks to the mid section. A duck of a shot and RVD catches a kick back, flying over with a wheel kick to the jaw and laying out his rival hard. He pops back up and looks around the arena, once again getting the RVD call before going off the ropes and going down to the mat and reaching Punk with the conclusion of the Rolling Thunder! He slips out to the apron and Punk is laid out in the middle of the ring. Rob goes to the top rope and staggers a bit before jumping off for the Five Star Frog Splash only for Punk to pull both of his knees up and stagger off to the corner. They both struggle getting up and Punk ducks a shot in the middle of the ring and goes for the GTS, Van Dam managing to come off and being struck immediately with a roundhouse to the back of the head. He flops off of the ropes and is caught on the shoulders again and dropped with the GTS dead center in the middle of the ring. Punk drops down to his knees and spreads his arms out, the crowd booing him heavily. He takes his precious time to mock RVD before covering him slowly, shocked when he only receives a two count! He grabs Rob by the ponytail and yanks him back to his knees, barking at the referee. He is suddenly met with strikes to the stomach and RVD manages to get back up and hit a hard flapjack. They both get up and Rob rolls under a shot and hops up with a roundhouse kick of his own! He goes off to the corner slowly, being cheered on by the Atlanta crowd. He hops onto the top rope again and gives one more RVD calling before jumping off and to everyone's shock Punk is up on his feet and catches Rob on his shoulders! Boos fill the arena along with some gasps of shock as Punk tosses him up and delivers the GTS once again. He doesn't take his time though, and hooks both legs for the pinfall.
Winner of the match via pinfall, CM Punk (9:59) ***3/4
Punk hops up to his feet and runs around the ring, pumping his fist into the air and calling out to the crowd with his hands clasped around his mouth. He hops atop each turnbuckle and points out to the crowd and gives them sarcastic blown kisses for their boos. He steps out of the ring as RVD rolls around holding onto his head, Punk wiping away fake tears of sympathy towards his defeated rival here on the grandest stage of them all.
We cut to ringside where our commentators Jim Ross, Michael Cole, and Jerry Lawler discuss last nights Hall of Fame Induction ceremony. We cut to a video package where all of the inductions took place, fading out and the music coming into the arena as Howard Finkel stands in the middle of the ring once again, and proceeds on with his announcing, "Ladies and gentlemen... your WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2011!" Cheers come in loudly as the inductees are announced: "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Ron Simmons, being represented solo by Animal - the Legion of Doom, Booker T, Bill Goldberg. The last gets the biggest ovation until the final inductee - "Macho Man" Randy Savage! He comes out in the middle and has a suit on with his traditional rainbow ribbons, spinning around and pointing out to the crowd. "When You're Young" by 3 Doors Down comes into play as the inductees begin to walk off, a video package for each of them as kids and today are shown before we head back to a graphic for The Undertaker and Vince McMahon.
A video package proceeds to air starting off with Mr. McMahon showing up in April of last year, saying he wants to make a bold decision and ultimately fires the Undertaker with no explained reason. Months later at Survivor Series, McMahon faces defeat against old rival Bret Hart and his time there is not over as the lights go out. The Undertaker shows up, the crowd roaring as he tombstone piledrivers the boss into the mat. Vince hires his then associates Triple H and Kurt Angle to go at him and at TLC, Undertaker and Shawn Michaels prevail over them. The two refuse to work with him and the Undertaker begins to get cryptic messages and even some of them go to Vince, leading to confusion. At the Royal Rumble, the messages appear during the Rumble match and Shane McMahon comes out to show who was behind it all along. He eliminates 'Taker from the match and at Elimination Chamber, the Dead Man prevails to defeat Shane and ends up demanding a match at WrestleMania against Vince. The highlights of the mind games and this last week conclude the package.
No Holds Barred Match
Vince McMahon vs The Undertaker
The bell tolls and Vince puts his hands up in plea, Taker stepping forward and Vince cowering in between the ropes quickly. The Dead Man storms up to him and takes the boss by the belt as he tries to get out, dragging him back to the middle of the ring and standing over him. Vince kicks him right up in the groin and struggles out of the ring, crawling up towards the ramp. Taker sits up slowly though and rolls out of the ring, following the man who fired him a year ago. Vince stammers towards the back and Taker continues going, the cameras following the action. The two end up going through the backstage area and eventually a chair strikes the Dead Man in the back and it's Shane! He fires away viciously at his father's rival and takes him by the hair, sitting him up. He smacks him right in the face with the chair and tosses it away. Vince comes walking over, catching his breath and Shane hands him the chair. Taker begins to sit up and reaches out to Shane, Vince striking him in the face again. He drags his head up and puts it against one of the production boxes behind him. Shane gives an order from away and his father listens, placing the chair up in the Dead Man's face. Shane yells out, "Bring it in!" and a pick up truck comes from behind the curtains. He gets in the back of it and climbs atop it. He begins to stand a bit and has to stop as Taker is back up and tosses the chair at the truck, cracking the window. He takes Vince by the throat and tosses him aside. He walks to the truck and Shane runs down, getting caught by the throat as well and being slammed down on the hood! Taker storms over to Vince and decks him right in the forehead and lays him out. He takes him by the arm and lifts him up, carrying him over his shoulder back to the stage, tossing him down on it. Taker backs him up to the edge and catches hold of the foot this time. He pulls Vince's boot off and pulls him up to his feet and lifts him up onto his shoulder, stalling him over the edge and Vince managing to struggle down just barely. He clubs the back twice and Taker spins around and backs him up down the ramp quickly, catching him up against the ring. He takes him by the throat and lifts him up on the apron and follows up, pushing him over the top rope with authority. Shane comes hobbling down the ramp quickly, however, and hops onto the apron behind Taker. He misses a shot and gets lifted up by the throat and placed in the ring. Shane rakes the eyes and wraps his arm around the neck, pulling Taker over with a DDT. He rolls him over and Vince slowly flops over onto him, only getting a one count. Taker stammers in the corner and the father-son duo stomp away at his legs and mid section. Taker takes them both by the throat and pushes them away. Vince rolls out of the ring but Shane comes charging and is met with a huge big boot. Shane O'Mac gets dragged up to his feet and measured up in the corner and smashed in the mid section with strikes. Vince comes into the ring from behind slowly with a trash can full of weapons and takes a lead pipe out of it. He cracks it over Taker's back and Shane dropkicks him hard causing him to stumble back into the other corner. Vince then takes a stop sign from out of it and cracks it over his rival's head before flopping away. Shane staggers over and puts the trash can filled with more junk up against Taker's face and steps out to the apron. He goes to the opposing turnbuckle and climbs up it and goes coast to coast, the crowd roaring, as Shane nails the kick into the face! He rolls out of the ring slowly, holding onto his back, as Vince crawls over to Undertaker, hooking the leg up quickly and thinking he has the win only for Taker to throw his arm up at two! Vince gets up onto both knees and can't believe it and the Dead Man sits up quickly, grabbing him by the throat fast. He gets up, dragging the boss with him, and chokeslams him on top of the trash can. Shane comes crawling back in behind him and takes hold of the leg. Taker drags him along and stomps away at the head over and over again before yanking Shane up and tossing him off the ropes and planting him with a fist. He keeps going at it and Shane eventually cuts open and Taker lifts him up for the tombstone. Vince staggers up and Undertaker pulls him up as well, pulling the father and son up in position and dropping them with a double tombstone piledriver in the middle of the ring. He folds the arms over together and gets the three count on the two of them.
Winner of the match via pinfall, The Undertaker (11:28) **3/4
The lights dim down as Taker staggers up to his feet and stands over the duo of McMahon's. He kneels down over them both, still with their hands crossed over Vince's chest. He throws his hand up, sticks his tongue out, and tosses his eyes into his head as the thunderous booms of his theme song blare out - the stage lighting up with a "19-0" image, the streak continuing on once again here tonight. Taker looks around to the cheering crowd.
We cut backstage to Todd Grisham, whom introduces his guest at this time to be the number one contender for the WWE Championship, Alberto Del Rio. He goes to ask him a question but Alberto interrupts before anything can come out, "Y'know, Todd, I've been watching all of WrestleMania tonight and I have watched as we saw Mr. Money in the Bank, and I watched as CM Punk defeated Rob Van Dam, and I just saw The Undertaker defeat Mr. McMahon himself. But y'know, Todd, I know that when I add to tonight's story book - I will be the highlight in defeating Randy Orton for the WWE Championship because it is my destiny and nobody else here tonight will be able to say that they fulfilled their destiny like Alberto... Del... Rio..." He gives a smile and a wink as he begins to walk off, a video package coming into play. Del Rio makes his debut in September and over the months gloats that it is his destiny to make a big splash here in the WWE and now getting his opportunity at the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. The recent weeks of build up and the threats and trash talk from Del Rio and Orton build up, including sneak attacks from both men. The package concludes with the two staring down.
WWE Championship
Alberto Del Rio w/Ricardo Rodriguez vs Randy Orton©
Before the bell can even ring, Del Rio strikes Orton from behind and fires away ferociously. He clubs down over and over again across the back and takes hold of the arm, rolling through with the arm bar in the middle of the ring but Orton managing to squirm free before it can be put on tight. Both men get up and Orton nails a hard uppercut but already seems to feel pain in the arm that Del Rio just attacked. The referee pulls him aside as he clutches hold of the arm and keeps Orton in the corner and Del Rio away, asking if he is alright. Orton says that he is fine and charges out, being plowed down to the mat with a kick to the chest. Del Rio takes the arm and stomps away at it over and over again, The Viper pulling himself away and kicking around in pain. The referee once again checks on him and goes to stop the match but Orton yells at him not to. He staggers up and Del Rio comes over, getting kicked right in the sternum. Orton uses his other arm to club down but gets tossed over onto his back. Del Rio goes after him and works him down on the mat with hard shots to the head until the count of four gets him off. Orton struggles back up and gets kicks to the legs and upper body. He gets arm dragged to the mat but he manages to use his good arm to yank Del Rio over and beat down on him hard. He takes him out of the ring and throws him shoulder first into the steel steps! He mounts over him and strikes away over and over and over again until Ricardo Rodriguez comes over and he takes him by the back of the neck and tosses him over the barricade! He goes back to Del Rio and brings him into the ring. He gets up after him and fires off a series of shots and they begin to trade blows, Orton kicking him in the knee and hitting a huge suplex. Del Rio rolls out to the apron quickly and manages to get back up, Orton quickly scrambling and pulling him through and hitting the rope hung DDT! He hooks the leg and only gets a two count. He steps up and begins to stomp around the entire body before dropping onto his hands and knees and pounding both fists - even with the hurt arm - into the mat. Del Rio slowly gets up and is planted right down to the mat perfectly from the RKO! The cover and it seems like a three count, but Del Rio has his foot on the bottom rope. Orton cannot believe it and drags him back up fast, setting him up for the suplex only to get spun out and taken down with his good arm and put in the arm lock, Orton quickly hooking his feet around the ropes and yelling out in pain. The Mexican Aristocrat makes the most of it and holds on until a count of four, getting back up and leaving Orton clutching both of his arms. Del Rio spreads his arms out as the reigning champion is checked on again. Alberto storms over and helps him up again, pushing him into the ropes and setting off with chops to the chest until it turns red. Orton fires a kick up and then a head butt then smacking him with his sore arms over the head. He dropkicks Del Rio and he pulls the referee off to the side on the fall. Orton backs up to the corner, seeming to prepare for the punt kick! Del Rio starts to stir but Ricardo grabs the ankle from behind on Orton in the corner! He kicks off his opponent's assistant and storms up fast, Alberto rolling out of the way quickly. He hops up and takes the arm, dragging Orton to the mat and ripping away at it in the middle of the ring. The WWE Champion kicks and screams in pain, the referee slowly crawling over to see the hold. Orton can't find the ropes and cries out one last time before tapping out helplessly.
Winner of the match and NEW WWE Champion, Alberto Del Rio (9:33) ***
The crowd roars viciously with boos as Del Rio tears away at Orton's arm even harder. Ricardo Rodriguez hops into the ring with the WWE Championship and Del Rio finally releases the hold, grabbing onto the belt and raising it up to the crowd! He runs around the ring and pointing to himself, the WrestleMania sign, and the WWE Championship. Orton rolls around in pain and soon drops to the outside before getting attended to by medics. Del Rio continues to celebrate as he exits the ring with Ricardo, heading up the ramp victorious and Orton seeming to be seriously hurt.
We head backstage to see Stephanie McMahon walking down a hallway, the crowd cheering for her from the inside. She goes into an office where Vickie Guerrero is talking with Abraham Washington. "Hey, Steph, I'm really sorry about your da--" Vickie tries to console her but Steph cuts her off with a smile, "I don't care about my dad. I only care about Kurt and Hunter tonight, mind if I sit down?" The two both seem taken aback by it, but let her sit as we head to a video package. Kurt Angle returns at Money in the Bank 2011, and in just a couple of months at Night of Champions is introduced as partners with Triple H under Mr. McMahon. They win the gold and end up disintegrating under the pressure of the boss, eventually splitting up following a huge loss to The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels at TLC. At the Royal Rumble, they try to work together but Angle turns on his partner. Over the months coming to Mania, things have become more intense and Triple H's wife, Stephanie, has even gotten involved.
Triple H vs Kurt Angle
The bell sounds and the two immediately begin firing back and forth angrily. Angle ducks a shot and clotheslines Hunter into the corner, smashing his back and neck until the referee pulls him away. Angle grabs him by the hair and tights and spins him out before tossing him hard into the steel post. He rolls him up from there but the King of Kings manages to kick out at two. They both get up and continue trading shots back and forth until Angle gets knocked to the mat and rolls out of the ring. Hunter follows after him but gets an elbow to the head and then tossed into the steel steps with authority. Angle begins to stomp at him against the steps and rolls into the ring at the count of five. He stands up and catches his breath against the ropes, The Game managing to get back into the ring at nine. As he rises back up, Angle rushes over and delivers a huge belly to belly suplex and goes for the pin only to get a two count. He hops onto Hunter and pushes him face down into the mat and applies various submission type holds until Triple H can get onto his feet and begin to throw strike after strike. He ducks a punch and hits a huge spinebuster! He rushes off the ropes and returns for his signature knee drop, Angle moving out of the way and quickly applying the ankle lock! Hunter sways his hands around and can't believe he has gotten caught in this hold, and reaches out desperately. He eventually stammers his way to the ropes and Angle flies back, "accidentally" knocking the referee to the mat. He quickly hops out of the ring and grabs a steel chair and follows Hunter to the other side of the ring where he dropped out and raises the chair up only to hurl over as Triple H has a sledgehammer! He gets up and tosses it into the ring, forcing Angle in after it. He rolls into the ring and takes Angle up by the neck, pounding down across the back over and over. He sets him up for the pedigree but Angle squirms free and ducks a shot, hitting the Angle Slam in the middle of the ring! He gets to his knees and notices the referee still down, grabbing hold of the hammer slowly. Stephanie McMahon comes rushing down the ramp though, yelling Kurt's name to stop him. She gets on the apron and he walks over, the two talking back and forth. She quickly wraps her hands around him and kisses him, Triple H getting onto his knees slowly and taking notice of it. He storms over and takes the hammer, Angle throwing himself to the corner fast. He glares at Angle before turning to Stephanie and pointing at her. She tries to explain herself but Hunter is too angry, Angle rushing up behind him and delivering the Angle Slam! The referee is still out, however, and Angle rolls over a bit. He takes notice of the hammer down still and picks it up. He has a sick look of satisfaction across his face as Steph leans down and pleads with him not to do anything. Hunter begins to stir and Angle adjusts the hammer in his hands and gives a disgusting grin to Steph, "Thanks for the kiss, doll" and he rushes up to Triple H and clocks him right in the jaw with his own weapon of choice! He drops onto him and hooks both legs up as the referee stirs and gives a slow, but successful, three count.
Winner of the match, Kurt Angle (12:50) ***1/2
Angle pops up to his feet and pumps his fists into the air, the crowd booing him as he celebrates. Meanwhile, Steph kneels down on the apron covering up her mouth as her husband is laid out. Angle struts around the ring before heading over to her and asking for another kiss. He puckers his lips up and she slaps him right in the face! Angle's music cuts out as he drags Steph into the ring by her hair and she screams like crazy. He talks some trash to her but instead throws her to the mat, exiting the ring. He backs up the ramp as his music kicks back in, raising his fists in victory again.
A video package airs for WrestleMania XXVIII. The package talks about the history of WrestleMania over the years and how it has paved the way for the beginning, or even the end, of superstars. Now the journey will be going to Dallas, Texas in Cowboys Stadium on April 1, 2012!
We return to the arena where Justin Roberts directs everyone's attention to the performance stage for Aerosmith! The group gives out a melody of Dream On, Kiss Your Past Goodbye, and conclude it with Walk This Way, the lumberjills for the upcoming match making their entrance to that very song. After all of the lumberjills are to the ring, Steven Tyler thanks everybody in the arena and the group walks off the stage, getting quite the ovation for their performance.
Lumberjill Match to Unify the Divas and Womens Championships
Divas Champion Layla vs Womens Champion April Lee
The bell rings and Layla puts her hands up with a smile. She turns around and gets out of the ring, April confused. Layla motions for the lumberjills to move for her exit and they all just stare her down. She gets bug eyed and goes to run to the ring but the majority of them drag her to the floor and begin to beat down the nastiest diva in the WWE! Some of the heel divas get into the mix to help out Layla, who manages to get back in the ring, and the lumberjills are out of control. Layla staggers to one knee and gets nailed with the Shining Wizard! Lee hooks both legs and this match is already over!
Winner of the match and Unified Diva's Champion, April Lee (1:03) *
Lee gets to her feet and is awarded both championship belts, raising them both up in glory. The face divas out of the lumberjills join her in the ring as the rest watch as Layla flops out onto the floor, all staring down at her and ignoring to help her up as they strut up the ramp together, Layla seeming to form tears in her eyes as she is truly alone in this entire division, and now, championshipless.
We head to a graphic for our World Heavyweight Championship match - which is up next. A video package airs of Bryan Danielson making his debut in the WWE. He is a good guy and happy-go-lucky, but after he wins the United States Championship he begins to show a more vicious and careless side. He goes on a rampage, beating up anybody that gets in his way and being completely unstoppable as he makes multiple superstars tap. When it comes to the Royal Rumble, he last eliminates the man who trained him - Shawn Michaels. He trash talks John Cena and talks about how he is just a product and fake to the so called fans, and that this is a wrestling business and not entertainment. Cena fires back saying it isn't just wrestling - it's world wrestling entertainment and that leaves room for the two. The package heatens up with the rivalry escalating slowly and lastly with Bryan standing over Cena with the World Title.
World Heavyweight Championship
Bryan Danielson vs John Cena©
The bell rings and the rivals glare at each other from across the ring. They slowly step out and Cena offers a handshake, Danielson spitting into his own hand and smacking him across the face. Cena looks away momentarily before tackling Bryan into the corner, firing shots into the mid section and then the head furiously. He storms out of the corner as Bryan falls down, flexing and yelling out to the crowd fired up. He rushes over to him but gets tripped to the mat. Bryan works around him and applies some holds, keeping him on the mat. He elbows him in the back of the head over and over again before applying a headscissors, wrenching at the neck as he leans back over the body with incredible balance. Cena kicks around and Danielson eventually pulls off, getting back up slowly. He takes Cena to his knees and takes the arm, rolling over it with his legs into an arm bar. Cena kicks around once again, trying to find a way to get free. Danielson lets himself off with a cocky smile. As the World Champion gets to a knee, Danielson goes for the arm again but this time gets picked up onto Cena's shoulders, having to scurry off fast. He fires off a few kicks to the legs and mid section before getting caught on a kick, Cena flipping him down to the mat and mounting on top, raining down with fists of fury. Danielson slips out and gets out of the ring, Cena following right after and getting thrown face first into the barricade. He rolls back into the ring and hops up, flying off the opposing ropes and coming back with a suicide dive that almost destroys the both of them! The referee begins his count as both men are laid out. He reaches six before Danielson staggers up, slowly bringing Cena up and taking him into the ring at eight. He hops onto the apron and launches himself over but is caught in his arms, tossed up into the corner. Cena stomps at him while he is down before dragging him to the middle of the ring before getting kicked away. Danielson rolls to his feet but gets floored by a clothesline, then another, and an arm drag for the third. Cena pops up and performs a little You Can't See Me before delivering the Five Knuckle Shuffle! He pops to his feet and waits, quickly bringing Danielson up and laying him down with the Attitude Adjustment! He hooks the far leg and thinks he has it won but it's only a two count! Cena sits up slowly and can't believe it, slowly bringing Danielson up and getting the eyes raked. Danielson nails a huge DDT and goes for a pin of his own, getting a two count as well. He pops right back up and takes Cena to the corner, kicking away ferociously before delivering one into the jaw and catching him with a suplex that he quickly converts into the Cattle Mutilation as Cena is flipping over! The crowd roars wildly at the intense action as Cena tries to find a way to get free. He scrambles his hands about, knowing it's nearly impossible to get out of this hold. His face begins to turn red with his effort, reaching out unsuccessfully. He forces his elbows into the mat and uses his strength to get over to the ropes, flopping a hand just barely over it! Danielson holds it in until the count of four, storming onto his feet and yelling at the referee, dropping onto his knees after in disbelief. He gets back up and Cena struggles onto all fours, Danielson lifting him up by the face, "Hey! Cena!" He slaps him around a bit as he gets onto his knees, "You're going to get you're f*ckin' head kicked in!" He backs up a bit and swings out his foot, Cena catching hold of it and tripping him over onto the mat. He hops over him and applies the STF! The crowd goes crazy as does the commentary team as Danielson tries to find a way out in the middle of the ring! He scrambles his hands about and continues fighting harder and harder. Things simmer down though for him and the referee raises his hand up, it dropping once. It then drops a second time. He finally pulls it up again and Danielson's hand barely stays up, swaying it around as if to say 'no' over and over again. Cena yanks back even tighter and Danielson's eyes begin to roll into the back of his head and his color beginning to fade - forced to tap out!
Winner of the match and still World Heavyweight Champion, John Cena (16:04) ****
Cena rolls onto his back and looks up to the sky, pushing a fist into the air as the referee retrieves his retained gold. He gives it to Cena as he stirs up, looking out to the cheering crowd as he rolls out, raising it up to a fan section, leaning in with them as he has done before. He stands up on the barricade and raises the gold up, Danielson dazed in the middle of the ring, defeated here on the grandest stage of them all. Cena steps down and exits through the crowd.
We head to a video package - starting off with home videos of Chris Jericho acting like Shawn Michaels. Voice overs from eight years ago - when the two first were involved in a rivalry together - and today are mixed over. Michaels then talks back, with anger in his voice and seeming frustrated. The video transfers to modern day where Jericho has pushed Michaels around, trying to provoke him but Michaels never actually getting his hands on him until a few weeks ago - where he finally laid out Jericho. The package continues with the ups and downs of both men, eventually coming to a final conclusion with Jericho laying the challenge down for Michaels' career to be put on the line against him at WrestleMania and the Heart Break Kid accepting.
The Heart Break Kid's Career on the Line
Chris Jericho vs Shawn Michaels
The sound of the bell is barely heard as the crowd is thunderous for this match up, the two legends staring down. They step out slowly and Jericho offers a handshake, Michaels taking it and them both backing away slowly before returning and locking up. Jericho backs him into the corner and chops away over and over, HBK quickly turning him back in and hitting chops of his own. He goes to whip Jericho but it's reversed and Michaels flies across the ring, giving his signature roll over the top rope and drop to the mat. Jericho follows after him slowly, pulling him to his feet and taking him down with an excellent suplex, only getting a two on the pin attempt. He slowly rises to his feet and takes HBK up by the hair to one knee, nailing a hard enziguri and laying him out viciously! He goes for the pin once again, only a two count. He struts around the ring a bit, letting Michaels get up and the two begin to trade blow for blow. Michaels hits a huge forward atomic drop and drops Jericho with a hard clothesline and then a forearm to the head. He flies off the ropes and returns with a flying forearm, kipping up to the crowd's delight. He lets Jericho get up in the corner and gets kicked in the gut. Y2J takes him by the neck and rushes across to the other side of the ring, tossing him over the ropes but Michaels keeping a grip on the top rope. He looks a little scared as he tries to skin the cat, unable to do it perfectly as he collapses across the ropes and to the mat. Jericho rushes at him and hits a huge baseball slide that sends him hard to the outside. Jericho follows after him but HBK kicks him in the sternum, getting back up and trading chops before catching one and nailing a hard suplex onto the cold floor. He rises up and rolls into the ring before going back out to the apron. He looks around to the crowd and comes up with an idea, going up the turnbuckle nearby! He staggers a bit on top of it as Jericho gets up, Michaels launching off for a crossbody and bringing Y2J to the floor hard - the crowd breaking out into a "HBK" chant. Michaels staggers up, holding onto his knee. He wobbles to the ring and rolls in, stretching out his leg. Y2J follows after him crawling, getting into the ring at a count of eight. Both men struggle to get up and Michaels sends up a sudden superkick, dropping Jericho with a snap to the jaw and then the mat. The crowd goes wild as HBK lays out on his chest, breathing heavily as he crawls over and flops an arm over, Jericho managing to throw his foot over the bottom rope to break the count up at two. Michaels rolls across the ring and Jericho struggles to get into the corner, dragging himself up forcefully as well as Michaels with the ropes. They both stammer to the middle of the ring and Jericho kicks HBK in the bad knee, taking his head back by the hair and driving vicious fists into the forehead. He continues to do this as the referee tries to pull him away, having to forcefully do it after four. Jericho seems a little emotional as he begins to yell at Michaels, "Just give up, Shawn!" He storms past the referee and drags him up, sending a hard kick into the knee, dropping him down but Michaels fighting to get back up as Jericho flies off the ropes and returns with a thunderous codebreaker. He quickly hooks both legs up and the Heart Break Kid kicks out at two! Jericho slams his fists into the mat and mounts over Shawn, "I said just give up! Don't make yourself look bad!" He drags HBK back up by the hair and flies off the ropes, coming back for the codebreaker again but Michaels pushing him down onto his back and rolling over in a pin, only to get the two. They both get up slowly and Jericho catches a superkick attempt, tripping Shawn down and quickly applying the Walls of Jericho! The crowd begins to give a mixed reaction, some booing Jericho while the others cheer on Michaels. The Heart Break Kid has his face completely planted up against the mat and reaches his hands out desperately. Jericho pulls back tighter and tighter as HBK continues to squirm himself across the mat, missing the ropes just barely. Jericho releases the pressure and stands up to drag Michaels across the ring, only for HBK to get free and crawl across the ring. Jericho rushes after him and takes both legs up but gets pushed back into the chest and across the ring. Michaels gets up and ducks a running clothesline and drops Jericho over face first into the turnbuckle padding. Shawn rushes across the ring and hits a flying forearm on the comeback! He rolls out to the apron slowly and staggers up onto the turnbuckle, the crowd going crazy as he flies off and delivers a huge signature elbow drop! Both men are out, Jericho curled up in a corner. The referee gets a count up to seven, Michaels pulling his legs up and kipping up wildly, throwing his arms around weakly! He holds himself up in the corner opposite of Jericho, stomping his foot down slowly. The crowd gets louder and louder with each stomp, the Heart Break Kid skipping across the ring as Jericho rises and sends up the Sweet Chin Music, Jericho managing to duck away from it and go off the ropes, returning to Michaels in the dead center of the ring, hitting the Codebreaker in what seems like slow motion as Michaels drops down to the mat with a thud. Jericho gets onto both knees and appears to have some tears in his eyes as he moves over to Shawn, "I'm sorry", as he hooks both legs up for the one... the two... and the final three of Shawn's career.
Winner of the match, Chris Jericho (24:29) *****
The crowd gives a mixed ovation as Jericho is announced victorious. He stammers up to his feet and gets his arm raised, shaking his head no to the referee. He walks over to Shawn as his music fades out, putting his hand out to the Heart Break Kid. Michaels slowly reaches his hand up, getting assisted onto his feet. The two stare each other down, shaking hands lightly. Jericho suddenly embraces Shawn in an emotional moment where Jericho is actually crying more than his opponent. Michaels says some words to him and Y2J exits the ring slowly, the Heart Break Kid looking out to the crowd saying "Thank you" over and over. He gives his signature and traditional Heart Break Kid pose, getting thunderous roars of cheers. He gets out of the ring and heads up the ramp, stopping at the top and turning back one final time as the camera begins to fade with the crowd chanting rightfully, "HBK".
