Jake Rosholt (6-2), four-time All American and three-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion out of Oklahoma State University (OSU), was released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) yesterday following his Nov. 21 submission loss to Kendall Grove.
Rosholt announced the news via his official Twitter account.
He turned pro about two years ago and had gone undefeated in his first five fights, including his World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) debut against Nissen Osterneck. Despite the win, Rosholt did not appear comfortable on his feet, eating several knuckle sandwiches and looking as if he could be stopped. However, he weathered the storm and capitalized with a technical knockout shortly after Osterneck punched himself out.
The win was good enough to get him a crack at the big boys in the UFC, where he locked horns with Dan Miller at UFC Fight Night 17 back in February. His limited experience was evident in that 185-pound contest, getting submitted with a rather routine choke early in the first round.
I was not a huge fan of his but its still not cool to see a young talented guy get cut. He will be back he is still new to the sport...

Its probably best for him though. He can go on lower promotions and get good experience before the big leagues(UFC) because he had pretty stiff competition to start off... I mean his first 3 fights and only 3 fights in UFC are Dan Miller, Chris Leben, and Kendall Grove who are all very experienced and have beaten alot of good fighters so he had a tough 3 fights in UFC. He needs smaller promotion experience to get better as a fighter...

that sucks...its not like Kendall was dominating him during the whole fight...He left himself open to be subbed...
I hope to see him back...seems like the UFC is always "THIS CLOSE" to cutting Kendall and he keeps hanging on by a thread...

I'm a bit surprised they pulled the plug on him like this. He obviously has room for improvement though,so hopefully we see him back after a tour across some smaller promotions. If he can get his submission defense locked in,and continue to improve his striking defense,he could be something special.

Everytime Kendall is about to be cut he comes in with a convincing win, haha... Roshalt, Day, Tanner, Etc... I wish he would just get a good run in before losing, haha

Rosholt will be back, I have no doubt. He's still green enough that he's easy to catch with submissions, but I don't think he'll be that way forever. He won't be Pete Spratt or anything. He'll improve, and I'm sure he'll be brought back when he does.

Great wrestler and maybe with some more experience he can come back. I think he is a good young talent.

Good lord. Any company that will fire Fabricio Werdum and Jake Rosholt after a single loss and employ Chris Leben and Kimbo Slice cannot possibly make the argument that they are the premier league in the sport.
Can you imagine the kind of backlash Strikeforce or EliteXC would be getting if they were to do the exact same thing? But UFC gets a pass. Wow.
