I decline...
...Probably one of the most over rated wrestlers in history.
Never has someone gotten by on nothing but lackluster wrestling and swearing in promos like Shane Douglas did.
Sure, he may be remembered for the birth of ECW... but really... anyone could have been handed the belt... threw it in the trash... and then swore a bunch.
His entire career after his initial horrible wcw run... was built off of one moment... and he could have been interchanged with anyone.
Yea... not a fan lol

He really wasn't that great and frankly, if he never tossed down the NWA title, he would be nothing. He is only remembered for helping the birth of Extreme Championship Wrestling. He was not a great talent, although he did have some decent matches. He was not that charismatic and his promos were rough to watch at times.

APPRECIATE HIM. Wow, can't believe the bashing. I actually thought the Franchise was under rated, as far as respect and his career in a whole goes. Yes, throwing down the NWA strap was definitely what defined his career and made him become a true star, but you can look back at most wrestlers and they also have that one true defining moment that made their career, and this was Troy's. Til this day, I still think he cuts one of the most passionate, articulate promos of all time.

I've always appreciated Shane Douglas. I liked when he taged with steamboat for a bit in WCW. "The Franchise" character was one of my favorites in the early to mid ninties. I always thought he cut good promos and I enjoyed his work ing the ring. I really can't say to much negative about him. I guess I made that obvious.

Shawn Michaels sure didn't think much of him in his book.

I think he was great on the mic and a really underrated worker. A few guys who didn't like him wrote some crap in their books or said stuff in shoot videos and suddenly every knew that Douglas couldn't work. He had some really solid matches in ECW and wasn't even a bad worker in the WWF back in 95. Was he the greatest of all time? Nope, but he wasn't as bad as people have been tricked into believing.

The bashing is mind boggling. I'm guessing either you just have heard of him and his reputation or just have only seen his WWF material. I think he is one of the most under rated guys of all time, he had great mic work, even though all of you only pointed out his cussing, he was intense and got his point across even without cussing. His in ring work was really good as well and was the leader of one of the best factions in wrestling. Great character, I will have to disagree with everyone else here and agree with the OP, APPRECIATE HIM.

The only reason he got over in ECW was cuz he was allowed to say and crap....much like Taz, who also sucked at promos.

He has basic wrestling skills and no charisma. IMO the highlight of his career was being that blond guy that teamed with Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat.

For some reason I thought I was going to be the only one with the distain for the fact Douglas' mainstream career lasted as long as it did lol
....You guys are swell.
But, not to be completely negative... I'll give the man something...
.....He had cool boots.

His wrestling career reads like this.
- Jobber in the WWE - Bust in the UWF - One half of the Dynamic Dudes in the pre-WCW. - Jobber in the WWF - The guy to hold the WCW Tag Titles with Ricky Steamboat. - Angry former WCW wrestler that blamed everyone for his lack of success. - A short debacle of a run in the WWE as Dean Douglas. - Back in ECW as an angry former WWE/WCW wrestler that blames everyone for his lack of success. - A internet targeted run in WCW that did not get over. - Indy wrestler that blamed everyone else for his lack of success. - Fat TNA has been that never was. - Target manager in training.
Hopefully he just sticks to teaching and stays off of the drugs. A legend, or even a great he is not.

Shane Douglas was Steve Austin before Steve Austin was. Douglas threw down titles, cussed promoters, raised hell and caused as much chaos as possible years before Austin ever did. Austin has even said in an interview that many of the personality traits he got for StoneCold while he was in ECW was from watching Shane Douglas.

Fair enough, but just because Shane did it first does not mean he did it better. Austin also had that charisma thing going for him too, and Shane lacked it. However where Shane lacked in charisma, he made up for in an insane ego and sense of entitlement when in actuality he was a has been that never actually was, unless he was in a sweaty dingy bingo hall that is.
