All this Mattel stuff I see online is current superstars only.
Well, they have Stonecold, apart from him who else are they planning. To tell you the truth I am not interested in Carlito, Primo, MVP, HHH and others.
I collect 80s and 90s. Are they planning anything along the lines of Andre, Warrior, LOD, Goldberg and full Hart Foundation release?
What classics are going to be there?

Other than the Heritage Austin & the Entrance Greats HBK nobody knows. Mattel said there'd be some sort of Legends/Classics but not until the end of 2010.

That's OK... They'll be seeing alot more of my money than I thought. Nevermind all the DCUC & JLU I buy...I figured with the WWE lines I'd just get the 2 Triple H figures (Basic & Entrance Greats), Elite Taker, Austin & Entrance Greats HBK and that would be it until the end of 2010 when they start their Legends/Classic line. I'm a Legends guys. There's only a very small handful of Modnern wrestlers that I find entertaining enough that I'd buy their figures. But after seeing the protos come Jan 1st I'll be getting a late Christmas gift from my wife and daughter. They'll be getting me...
Basic Series 1 - HHH, Batista, Cena (And I hate Cena, but that figure looks to good to pass on) Elite Series 1 - Undertaker & MVP 2-Packs Series 1 - Legacy, Santino & Beth. (maybe Jericho & HBK) Entrance Greats - Triple H & HBK
And then just in time for my birthday in March the Heritage Austin, Elite HHH & Randy Orton. So Mattel has sold me on their figures.
Normally with Jakks the only modern wrestlers that are still wrestling that I find entertaining enough to actually buy their figures were - Triple H, Taker, Regal, Orton, Jericho & Helms. But with Mattel I'll be buyng them along with the rest of the modern wrestlers I find entertaining - DiBiase, Rhodes & Santino

They won't see my dollars. What the hell, man?? Did you seriously think Mattel was going to get the wrestling license and then flood the market with the entire current roster of the WWE -AND- have the Classics line ready to go, all in their first quarter-of-a-year as a wrestling figure company?? Give it a rest. It took Jakks many, many, MANY years to start making Classics, and a lot of them sucked. Hard. Mattel is going to have your Classics, and they will be a hell of a side better than the Jakks garbage, AND they'll be within Year 1. Would you rather have them now, or would you rather have them awesome?

I want to see them make Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart and The Rock. Mattel did say they are going to do it but I think just to hit things just right they are going to release some names that they know will sell. It's just going to take time before we see everything we loved from Jakks. I wonder if Mattel will make a real scale ring. That would be awesome.
The sky is the limit at this point.

I'm the same way. I could really care less about 95% of the guys wrestling these days and won't be buying any of them. That's why it sucks for me to not have any details/info regarding their Classics line.

Didn't it take a while for JAKKS to do classics?

Jakks introduced the CS line about a year after the first series of Ruthless Aggression, from what I remember.
So, if that's the case with Mattel, it will take some patience, but I'm sure they will throw us collectors a bone every now and then (as they have with the aforementioned Austin and Michaels figures).

Its going to be hilarious when mattel drops the idea as it wont bring them any decent profit for them.
Only collectors buy classics and collectors are a minority... Why making a Steamboat that sells 5000 units when they can make Cena for over the 9000th time and sell 100000 units?
These guys do Barbie... they are not screwing around. They are after big money... not pleasing an annoying minority that is never happy anyway.
If they thought classics were a big deal they would have drop one of the many, many lines they are coming out in 2010 and do them instead.

That makes no sense, because they do have "collector driven" lines out there already in DCUC, Movie Masters, JLU & MotU. And with JLU only being picked up by Target and MoTU & Ghostbusters not getting picked up by mass retail they continued to produce them for their online store. And now they are doing the collectors "Retro" Mego-like superheroes. (On line now and TRU in the spring.)

Do you know any kid with 10 years old that likes He-Man? WWE is a different story. Kids buy it. Kids are a HUGE source of profit. Here is an example. I showed my 8 year old cousin some classic figures and he was like "meh..." I showed him some pics of those "Flex force" mattel or whatever they are called and he was like "wow those are awesome!" But well, time will tell what Mattel is looking for with the WWE line...

But unless I misunderstood what you had said...I read your post to say Mattel wouldn't make a Classics line, because it would be a collectors driven line and not a child friendly line. So I was pointing out all the collector driven lines they have already made through other brands. But in any case they've already gien us two classics with the Heritage Austin and the WMXII HBK in the Entrance Greats line.

If they thought classics were a big deal they would have drop one of the many, many lines they are coming out in 2010 and do them instead. I disgaree. Jakks has had 28 series of Classic figures (plus more with their new NWA line). If the demand wasn't there for that, the line would have died many series ago. Although Mattel's bread and butter will be the current stars in their regular and deluxe figures, it is very conceivable that they can turn a profit with a classic line. They can do what Jakks does and release them in far fewer waves than the main lines. The only thing that may hurt them is the fact that collectors may not want to buy Mattel's versions of the same classic characters that Jakks has made. If they are smart they should have a major guy Jakks never made in the first wave to try and hook the collectors (ala Ricky Steamboat).
