Edit: Or should I get Mario RPG for SNES?

If you love classic video games as much as I do, you'll still be able to enjoy Super Mario Kart. I have a lot of virtual console titles that I play on a regular basis.

When I first played it about 10 years ago it was still fun, but in the last decade it's aged bad and I can't play it anymore.

I love Super Mario Kart. There's nothing wrong with it in my opinion. It might be the nostalgia talking, but it's just as much fun now as it was when I first played it.

No, time has done Super Mario Kart no favors. i'd advise against buying it.

It's very basic and not as fun as the other ones, Go with Mario RPG.

I grew up on Super Mario Kart and played most of the newer ones but could never get into them. I always went back to the original. Chances are if you're more used to the newer games in the series, you won't dig the original near as much though.

What I love about the original is how easy it is to make someone lose. The computer always seems to have a set place but since weapons in SMK cause much more down time than the others, it's easy to knock them off the edge or hit them with a shell. Watching them try to catch up is a devious pleasure. If it's late enough in the race they're screwed.
My favorite track for doing this is the Final one in Mushroom Cup. There's a big jump at the end with the yellow speed arrows. If you watch the path the CPU follows and get ahead of the guy in 2nd, place a banana peel in the line. They'll hit the peel and hit the jump, but they won't make it to the ledge causing them to be near last place usually.
Also, SMK doesn't have a blue shell. It has cheap infinite CPU-only weapons, but it lacks the blue shell. I love it. Best all around Mario Karts are probably 64 and DS, though.
