So I finally decided to start a franchise tonight. Made some trades after the pre-season where, much like real life, the Eagles went 1-3. I traded Stewart Bradley to St. Louis for LB James Laurinaitis and Reggie Brown to Oakland for Darrius Heyward-Bey. Onto the regular season.
Week 1: Philadelphia @ Carolina
-This game was close to start, and then quickly got out of hand. Carolina started off the scoring when J. Kasay barely made a 46 yard FG that hit the upright and bounced through.
CAR 3, PHI 0
-First possession for Philadelphia. They drove downfield, but the drive quickly ended when R. Marshall picked off a pass intended for J. Maclin and returned it 83 yards for the score. (J. Kasay kick)
CAR 10, PHI 0
-Next drive for Philadelphia only took 2 plays, and just 12 seconds off the clock when D. McNabb hit D. Heyward-Bey for a 64 yard TD. (D. Akers kick)
CAR 10, PHI 7
-After a 3 & out for Carolina, Philadelphia went back on offense and drove down the field, culminating in a 22 yard TD run for L. McCoy, and the first lead of the game for Philadelphia. (D. Akers kick)
PHI 14, CAR 10
-Another 3 & out for Carolina on their next possession, and the clock ran down as D. Akers kicked a 40 yard FG to extend the Philadelphia lead going into halftime.
PHI 17, CAR 10
-Philadelphia received the ball at the start of the 2nd half, by virtue of their choosing to kick at the start of the game. They didn't take long to pick up where the 1st half left off, and their first drive ended with a 12 yard TD pass from McNabb to E. Buckley. (D. Akers kick)
PHI 24, CAR 10
-More bad luck on the offensive side of the ball for Carolina led to another punt, another drive for Philadelphia. And that led to another score, this one a 30 yd TD pass from McNabb to D. Jackson that extended Philadelphia's lead. (D. Akers kick)
PHI 31, CAR 10
-Carolina's luck on offense finally shifted when they drove downfield and added to their score when D. Williams got across the plane from the 1. (J. Kasay kick)
PHI 31, CAR 17
-Carolina attempted an onside kick, but J. Avant of Philadelphia easily recovered. And Philadelphia saw Carolina's TD and it was, essentially, a case of "Anything you can do, I can do better" when L. McCoy took it in from 5 yards out to answer Carolina's TD with one of their own. (D. Akers kick)
PHI 38, CAR 17
-Carolina, not to be deterred, went back on offense, and after the drive stalled out, J. Kasay added a 26 yard FG.
PHI 38, CAR 20
-Philadelphia answered back with yet another TD, the 2nd one from McNabb to D. Jackson, this one a 59 yard strike. (D. Akers kick)
PHI 45, CAR 20
-Carolina got the ball back with less than a minute to go. Poor clock management, however, prevented them from adding anymore points to at least soften the blow of this opening day loss as the clock ran out.
