I go on about this in the latest edition of my podcast, but basically, I'm not going to excuse Yvel but I can sorta-kinda forgive him. Everything he's done recently points to him being a reformed fighter.
I mean, he silenced the crowd after KO'ing Rizzo because he wasn't sure how badly the guy was hurt. He told the audience in the post-fight interview that "we should make sure everyone is good before starting the party".
He even said "Sorry Pedro, but I have to fight until the referee tells me to stop" in another post-fight interview.
Yvel was always a KO monster, but now that he's mostly reformed, I think he could be a pretty good star in the UFC.

I'm sure Yvel will get another shot in the UFC (at least I hope), but it does suck to see him go down. With all the talk circulating around Cain, Carwin, and Mir, it's easy to forget about Dos Santos sometimes. I wonder who's next for him?
Good to see Daley and Stout pull off wins tonight.

I really, REALLY hope all the people who talked sh*t about this card are eating their words. This is the most action-packed card in a LONG time. So, you, haters.

Full results here: UFC 108 ''EVANS vs. SILVA'', 1/2/2010 (Spike TV/PPV/ESPN-UK) MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas NV13,255 Fans1. Lightweight Bout: Rafaello Oliveira beat John Gunderson (R3 5:00) by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27). 2. Welterweight Bout: Jake Ellenberger beat Mike Pyle (R2 0:22) by TKO. 3. Middleweight Bout: Mark Munoz beat Ryan Jensen (R1 2:30) by Submission (Punches). 4. Lightweight Bout: Cole Miller vs. Dan Lauzon (R1 3:05) by Submission (Kimura). 5. Welterweight Bout: Martin Kampmann beat Jacob Volkmann (R1 4:03) by Submission (Guillotine Choke). 6. Heavyweight Bout: Junior dos Santos beat Gilbert Yvel (R1 2:07) by TKO. 7. Lightweight Bout: Jim Miller beat Duane Ludwig (R1 2:31) by Submission (Armbar). 8. Lightweight Bout: Sam Stout beat Joe Lauzon (R3 5:00) by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27). 9. Welterweight Bout: Paul Daley beat Dustin Hazelett (R1 2:24) by KO. 10. Light Heavyweight Bout: Rashad Evans beat Thiago Silva (R3 5:00) by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
Well, I actually really liked this show. Hazelett shouldn't have thrown a single punch, but he decided to and paid for it. All I have to say about Gilbert Yvel: " !" I was actually really pissed off at Silva for not capitalizing on getting Evans hurt. He should have taken his back and went for the submission. I kind of figured that Evans wasn't stupid enough to stand with Silva so he used the smothering gameplan. Good event though. everyone who hated this card. It ended up being very action packed.

It was good, but damn wish Thiago would of finished. Evans LNP to a victory.

Man, I can't believe what I just saw. Thiago had that ing fight in the bag. I can't believe he just stood there staring at Evans, when he should've stayed busy. If he would've kept throwing bombs, there's no question he would've won that fight. Rashad was rocked, but I guess Thiago didn't have enough left in the tank to finish him. Man, what a great card this was. I'd give fight of the night to Sam Stout/Joe Lauzon. Man, what a great fight that was. What was a cursed card became uncursed in the end. No question about it.

After this fight, I'd hope Rampage/Evans doesn't go down as Rampages first fight back. I fear his ring rust would just open him up to having the same kind of night Silva had here. No offense to the technique that goes into that sort of a fighting game plan, but it'd be a big let down if such an anticipated fight boils down to 3rds of constant LNP/smothering.

Apparently the Evans/Silva fight was rigged, at least according to the polite(drunk) gentleman behind me at the wing place, who proceeded to tell me to "stop ing clapping" and "that bull**** was mother ing rigged, ing Rashad Evans is a ing , Silva made his ass look like a joke standing there with his chin in the air". I informed him that no style points were awarded in UFC, check pro figure skating for that scoring system He was upset.

Here's what I'm gonna say and you can argue it all you want. If Evans plans to fight Rampage like that, he will get destroyed.

I dont hate the card. I had to work and Im broke otherwise I would have ordered it or went out to see it. But my complaint was it could have been so much better with all of the names that were supposed to be on it... Sherk, Lesnar, Nog, Velasquez, Carwin... But in the end it all good no big deal. Im sure it was a fun event to see but I couldnt have seen it if I wanted too... Glad Daley and Evans won though!

Well all the sh*t talk about this card was proved wrong. What a ing night! FOTN easily goes to Stout/Lauzon for me (and officially too!). Stout showcased some of the best striking we've ever seen from him, and his sprawling was superb. J-Lau gassed in the first round noticably, so props to him going the distance. Hazelett got KTFO. No doubt about it. Do not stand and bang with Semtex. Give Semtex a #1 Contenders match against Koscheck. Evans/Silva was... well... I thought the fight was good, but Rashad did all when he got Silva to the ground. His takedowns were really impressive though. Silva should've finished the fight in the third. I know he was gassing, but if you can willingly stand in front of a dude who could've just walked over and KO'd you during you just standing there with your hands at your hips, you can go over there and KO him yourself when he's rocked and on chicken legs. He knew he had the fight lost and still didn't go over there and finish it. Rashad was done. Junior Dos Santos. Is for real. Yvel showed some decent counter striking, got JDS with some nice hooks, but never doubt JDS's heavy hands. This guy is certainly in the mix for a title shot. Cole Miller's crazy ass submission was immense. It was nice to see the inverted triangle ala Toby Imada, but to back it up he got the kimura too. The triangle didn't look like it was in enough for Lauzon to tap, but it was awesome to see. Miller transitioned and locked it in very impressively. Dan's striking was really good, and Miller showed a lot of heart actually recovering from getting tagged and dropped early on. Jacob Volkmann. Now... I don't think he should get cut. Yes, he's lost his two fights, but he put on a great performance against Paulo Thiago (which I thought was FOTN), but got counter punched (and dropped twice) badly by Kampmann. Obviously, there was the submission he gave up, but try putting Christmas in against some of the lower-echelon guys at 170 instead of guys up there like Kampmann and Thiago and we're really going to see some impressive things from this kid. Overall: WHAT AN EVENT. I'm pumped for UFC 109, mainly to see Nate Marquardt take on Chael Sonnen. Really impressive night...

This event was off the chain, even though Rashad didn't win in great fashion It's alway's good seeing him win! Stout vs. Lauzon was very fun to watch indeed, I am so glad Paul Daley got the win also!

I'm glad Dean Amasinger was in his corner too... although annoyed that Rogan or Goldberg didn't mention that he was on TUF, whilst he mentioned Ross Pearson and Andre Winner. Rough House is a stacked gym though...
Daley, Amasinger, Pearson, Hardy, Winner, sometimes Bisping, sometimes Nick Osipczak... it seems a great gym.

what happened to everyone seeing "the new Rashad"?..
if Rashad is scared to stand with Thiago then he should be having nightmares right now about fighting Rampage. Everything Rampage said was right... Rashad KO's two guys and thinks he is the sh**. I really don't even care to see that fight anymore and would be much more interested in Rampage vs. Thiago Silva.
good to see Dos Santos win again...that guy is the real deal..I'd love to see him fight Carwin.
