Prowrestling.net is reporting that TNA star Jesse Neal was "scolded" by agents and wrestlers for taking an unprotected steel chair shot at Sunday's Final Resolution PPV from Hernandez. He was reportedly lectured for not putting his hand up or at least making an effort to absorb the blow better. Sources in TNA believe Neal was simply trying to show his toughness by taking the shot right on the head and that it was a mistake by a young wrestler.

If Sting took a shot like that, would he have been scolded?

Is it safe? No. But your not taking a chair shot every night, so one chair shot shouldn't kill you. I have a lot of respect for the guys who do take those shots, trying to bring back the realism like it used to be. I dont think he should have been scolded for that, maybe just told not to always do that. No reason for a lecture.

It adds nothing to a match imo.

Like at the Rumble last year, when Matt hit Jeff with the chair, it looked more brutal because he took it head on, no blocking. Thats just my take on it...

I would have given the man props for he made the shot looked real. He put his health on the line for the match and the company. Kudos to Neal, even though I dont like his wrestling ability.

You must be referring to the Attitude Era days, because I can assure you that chairshots were never delivered to the head with such viciousness prior to that era & fans still popped for them, that is until the use of a chair was whored out by indy feds, and then totally ruined during the Attitude Era by the Rock & Mankind. Nobody should take a nasty shot to the head like that. It's not safe and spoils the fans.

A chair shot to the head is the only right way to do it. Makes it look more vicious.

Back in the old days you took a championship belt shot to the head which is not only safer but it always knocked you the out for a 3 count. Chair shots are not safe, especially when you take it to the head. In 30 years if Jesse Neal ever becomes someone and then kills his family cause of all his head trauma just think back...Head shots ruled!

I think he helped the company, when u take a chair shot to the head without your hand up there it looks a whole lot more realistic

Honestly, how many "unprotected chair shots" did Benoit take? It's not like he was a Balls Mahoney or anything, I can't honestly recall any particularly nasty chair shots Benoit took. Other than perhaps the one at the Royal Rumble 2001 where he hit the dive through the middle rope to the outside and Jericho cut him off with a chairshot, but even that wasn't fully "unprotected." I've always found the "Benoit was brain damaged from all the unprotected chairshots he took" excuse asinine.

I'm using it as an excuse, but the chairshots combined with the diving headbutt off the top rope each night is a hell of a brain damaging combo.

Yeah, I absolutely buy the headbutt line, I just never remember Benoit being an animal when it came to chairshots.

Whenever Benoit did take a chairshot though, it was unprotected.
