I've just been buying the figures I like. So far from Mattel I've got:
- All of series 1 plus MOC 1 of 1000 Cena
- All of Elite series 1
- HBK/Jericho and Legacy 2-packs
I know that they are all good quality figures and all have great attires,

I've decided to be an Elite collector as I want the extra articulation and accessories. I purchased all of Elite Series 1 on 1/1/10.
However I did also buy Basic Series 1 John Cena and Triple H just so I can use them as stand-ins until their Elite figures come out in Feb/April respectively.

I bought all of the Elites, as well as the Glamorella and Jericho/ HBK two-packs.
You asked, "How do you know if you have a good fig from this Mattel line or not?"
My personal opinion: Well, you have a good fig if you like the sculpt, paint apps, articulation, ect. But if you're talking about monetary value the 1/1000s are the way to go.

There isn't such a thing as a "great deal", unless you can find a 1/1000 at this stage of the game. Everything is fairly easy to obtain, so the "rarity" factor is just not there. If anything, the rarest figures are the EG Triple H and Glamorella 2-pack since both of those are packed 1 per case. Other than that, everything is equally sent out. Most likely, I would assume these figures from the early series would gain some re-sale in the future because they are the original figures, but I wouldn't buy them just for that. Take them for what they are- toys. Pose them, display them, play with them, hang them MOC, do whatever. Buy the ones you like, and hope for the best. You never really can tell what will be worth more in the future, because you don't know if they will re-release it again, or something.
The belts are just special commemorative metaphoric belts to symbolize the partnership between WWE and Mattel. As they have coined the phrase "2 heavyweight champions of the world (Mattel- toys, and WWE- wrestling/live entertainment/mass media)".

Well what kind of deal could you make if you are getting them at mass retail? And to answer your question if you like the figures then yes you made a good choice. Mattel has 10,000 of the 1/1000 commemorative belts out there now. Everyone in Basic Series 1 has a 1/1000 as well as the Heritage Series Austin, Taker, Edge & Orton.

I never once ever thought to myself that I would only collect figures that are worth money or rare. I only buy the people I like and then my figures get played with and well loved. One day I am going to die then it won't matter who I kept in the box or how rare my collection was. I rather open them and have fun.
