Mattel definitely won me over the first time I saw the protos and with all the exclusive things at Walmart and Target and TRU things can only get better for Mattel

Going through the 2 Mattel is starting to grow on me. Just takes a little while and a decent amount of figures to really enjoy them after collecting and being used to Jakks for so long. Their first figures are way better than when Jakks first started to make figures. Mattel has really worked on giving us close to or better than what we have been used to. I also love how elite and basics are same scale instrad of the huge difference in RA and DA

It depends on the wrestler. Based on RA vs Basics
Jakks 2004-05 John Cena > Mattel Cena > Jakks 2006-09 Cena
Jakks Big Show, Batista > Mattel Big Show, Batista
Mattel Evan Bourne, Mysterio > Jakks Evan Bourne, Mysterio

No I don't. Mattel's stuff looks alright, but they all look too...He-Man-ish. The thing that really makes me laugh, is the Mattel figures all seem to have large pelvics (hips). Sometimes it looks like they're wearing diapers!
While it is great to enjoy the figures now, comparing them to Jakks' stuff is kind of pre-mature. I mean, it is like comparing a 2009 car to a 2002 car of the same model. It might be outdated or off, but at the time, it was the best there was on the market.
But it will not be long before Mattel starts to re-use body parts, re-releases figures, and lacks detail in paint. But enjoy them for what they're worth.

FINALLY someone of merit on this board agrees with me. Mattel's figures just look weird the diaper thing is a really good point I never thought of. Most guys have arms & torsos that are waaaayyy to skinny looking. I'd rather have my wrestling figures with a little more bulk than looking anorexic. Like I've said, the only big plus for me with Mattel is their attention to detail in attires. A lot of things all the Jakks haters complained about Mattel is doing the same thing: same body types, same molds for tag teams (carlito & primo are the exact same figure minus the scan and carlito's hand tape) Hell they've already re-released a figure (John Cena) 5 times. No one complains about that, yet Jakks is the worst company ever because they didn't put logos on a Christian figure... ? I've seen all the Mattel sets in person that are out now and I just don't see with my own eyes how they are so awesome and great and the best thing ever.

Mold re-use is inevitable, and anybody who has collected any MAttel lines knows how they love their re-use. The two hottest lines on the market right now, DC Universe Classics and Masters of the the Universe Classics, are built on basing most figures on the same few bucks. This only becomes an issue when the re-used parts are used to make a figure for whom the parts are not appropriate. Jakks couldn't release even one wave of figures in any of their lines without doing this on multiple figures. THAT is why people gripe about the re-use. Re-use of parts is not the issue, inappropriate re-use is. Carlito and Primo have the same torsos because they are actually very similar in size and build. Therefore, the sharing of those parts is appropriate and does not harm the figures.

I agree, Mattel has improved on Jakks in every way. My only gripe at this point is the absence of belts for the figures. Jakks has better head scans! It's not even close in that category. I might give the edge to Jakks in other areas too but I haven't seen enough Mattel figs to be sure yet.

So far I like what I see.
I was a jakks loyal follower since the batista/ randy orton ad pack was released. That pack started me on a big jakks collection. . its probably about 400 figs total. maybe over now.
I doubted mattel big time when the deal was announced. I can over look the use of the same body types and parts, as that is common in figures. But as a Big moc collector I am really in it for the detail and realism.
I think so far mattel is blowing jakks out of the water. I never thought I would say that either. I was waiting for the perfect randy orton fig which jakks always seemed to screw up somehow, and mattel nails it on the first try with the wm heritage fig. So far the total progresion of figs is outstanding. i own 7 mattel figs so far, and I will get many more.
Its funny how I told myself I wouldnt get any basic figs yet I like them better then the elite that I was planning on getting. Thanks to the ted dibiase jr fig, mattel has a new loyal collector. ( great likeness!)

I might buy entrance Greats from Matel. But so far - I prefer Jakks. Why? because of the head scans and the RA style body from the classic line of figures

Finally someone stepped up to break down to the rest a few things about Mattel. Both post often, both are very credible and knowledgeable on the subject of wrestling firgures.
