It will be dead. It's already a dying genre. This coming from a rap fan, I just don't see much originality or creativity left in the form anymore...it peaked in the late 90's. Golden age was the early 90's, but after the Big and Pac deaths, it was just over-commercialized and exploited. Now it's sucked dry. DEAD. Agreed 100%. Now there is guy's in rap like Lil' Wayne and he's not too promising I find that today, your lack of lyrical talent is covered up more by the beats. Before the background beats were more simple, but the artists made up for that with their actual lyrical talent. I honestly can't see rap lasting another 10-15 years.

Alive and well.
It's all different opinions anyway, some people like to jump on the bitching bandwagon of "lack of lyrical skill/talent" while others enjoy the content and simply keep their mouth shut.

Idk about rap in 50 years.. But I do see it slowly fading to the back burner in the coming years.. I have a lovely itch that actual Hip-Hop is making a comeback within the next 5-7 years.. Out of random.. I enjoy Saigon.. Dunno.. Dun care.. Just do.. Did you just call Cudi a good rapper? Idk if you just don't like CuDi.. But point being is I consider his list more hip hop than "rap".. Hip Hop and Rap is the same thing.

Rap took the same path as all emerging music over the years. Dylan had folk being one of the most popular genres in the 60s, then it got commercialized. Just like Rap in the 80's being great and some of the 90's, then you had bunghole profiteers destroy the genre.

Yepp, and with the beat, there isnt any real lyrical talent. All rap/hip hop today is just metaphors. Every single line it seems like it composes of metaphors only. People get mixed up between lyrical talent, and just sayin rhyming metaphors.

As opposed to a lot metal bands currently who have anything to say? No form of music really has the ability to die, someone will always have a different take on it. From what rap started as to what rap is now are like completely different things. Find the amount of kids that love Lil Wayne who even know Sugarhill Gang. The problem with your reasoning is the fact that Rap started for inner city kids, now has progressed to where it's shoved down the youth's of todays throat through MTV and other outlets. You know what I'm pissed about that. It pisses me off the my 6 year old nephew knows who Lil Wayne is but has no clue who Metallica, The Beatles, Rush, etc are. That is complete bullpoop. If it wasn't for video games (Beatles Rock Band and Guitar Hero Metallica) most of today's youth would know country, rap, pop, or mainstream crap (ie Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga). Hopefully rap dies, IMO it should be killed off, you could make a case for some of rap's stars to be role models, but very very few. Granted metal has very few. But what about people like U2, Bruce Springsteen, etc. That is what youth today should be listening to. Both on and off of the stage both are class acts, which can't be said for many artists today. Oh well, that's my take on it. I totally agree. Another thing is that Rap is only appreciated as music. As much as I like rap I wouldn't go to a rap concert. There is no reason to. I wouldn't SEE the beats being reproduced live. Just a guy with a mic talking in rhymes. Any rock concert I've been to it has been an experience each time. There is respect among the metal shows in the crowd. There is a bunch of generations enjoying a Velvet Revolver show. I just don't see rap being able to reproduce that. I never listened to a rap song and remembered anything special about it or showed it to someone because of something that impressed me.. I take that back.. Immortal Technique's Dance With the Devil is really deep, meaningful and memorable. But other than that, they have only been catchy which is just another word for money.

the good will be taken from it and help to influence the progression of music.

B.O.B. and Bobby Ray are the same person.....
and its ridiculous to say rap is going to die, just because you dont like it? this forum is ridiculously ignorant and close-minded.

It's pretty much the same thing. Rap is kinda the whole genre of what everything goes under, then it breaks down into New school Hip Hop or like Old School Hip Hop.

Where do you see rappers in 40-50 years. Do you see them still rapping? Like Eminem for example. He's in his 30's now. If he survives to be 60-70, do you see him still rapping? I don't see Eminem rapping in his 60s or 70s in 50 years because he would be in his 80s.
