cuts down on that brand-new-figure-smell we all love so much is what it does. and it's a damn shame. Signed, sealed, and delivered. LOL, I just picked up a couple new figs and thought this too... Got pissed off.

cuts down on that brand-new-figure-smell we all love so much is what it does. and it's a damn shame. ...there have been reports, that smell could be toxic. yeah the plastic mattel uses is not the same as Jakks. I loved the brand new figure smell on jakks figs but the mattel plastic smells horrible.

It`s there to stop chemical reaction breakdowns, mattel has found out from their 1980`s He Man figures that they will be sticky right out the package 20+ years later. The chemicals in the bubble reacts with the chemicals from the figures plastic and makes the figure sticky like you just put acetone on it and the ventalation prevents that. It`s on all their newer packaging. Jakks leaves a small opening at the bottem of the bubble for the exact same purposes
