Obviously if Maynard got a shot after this fight, it'd just be default. I think most of the contenders at 155 are going to be getting their shots this way. Some guys may deserve the it a little more than others, but nobody is coming up to the plate with something BJ can't handle.
Overall, it was an entertaining night of fights, but definitely underwhelming.

Man, if Gray Maynard is next in line for B.J. Penn, then I feel sorry for him because he doesn't have a prayer. I mean, if he had THAT much difficulty with Nate Diaz last night, just imagine the problems he's going to have with Penn. B.J. will eat him alive.

I really don't think that Maynard should be given a title shot yet. He still hasn't proven anything. His last 6 fights all went to decision and he has yet to finish anyone besides that dude he fought on the TUF finale. I think he's gonna have to fight at least 2 more well-known LW in order to even be considered for a title shot. I think he should have to fight at least two of these guys:
Diego Sanchez Kenny Florian Clay Guida Sean Sherk Takanori Gomi Joe Stevenson
If he can beat at least 2 of those 6 guys I mentioned, then I think he deserves a shot.

In my opinion Diaz won that fight. What? If that's your opinion, you need to learn to score a fight. Nate Diaz took an absolute beating in round 2, did very little damage and landed some very meaningless shots throughout the rest of the fight. (while missing quite a few more) Gray Maynard was not in trouble one single time in that fight, while Diaz got rocked twice. Diaz had a horrible gameplan going in. He didn't use his strength, which is his ground game. He barely even attempted to pull guard. There is no doubt that Maynard won that fight.

I actually can't stand Nate Diaz. He reminds me of some kid with a napoleon complex or something. He's skin and bones and always flexing and making mean faces like he is some sort of bad ass. As well, he's always taunting his opponents and just has an overall bad attitude. I was glad to see Maynard pick him a part. The taunting and what not Gray did was unnecessary, but was just giving Nate a little taste of his own, which I think disheartened Nate and he showed what a sore loser he was after the fight.
Gray may not have shown the standout quality of title contendership in his last few fights, but he has won all of his fights and did what he needed to do to win them. I'll be happy if he gets a title shot, if not, I'll be happy to see him fight again regardless, always enjoy him.
