I can't believe how many Penn lovers there are here. Don't get me wrong I'm right at the top of the list of loving him (he's my favorite fighter), but I'm just surprised that no one has come in here and said, "OMG BJ IS SCREWED!!!" or anything like that.
Every time BJ has had a new contender announced, at least a few people here have come and talked about how BJ is going to get pummeled.

No the only person interesting for BJ would be Alvarez PERIOD It would be a mistake if he thinks he should try to grapple with penn. it would also be a mistake to stand with penn. it would also be a mistake to get to the ground with penn. It's a mistake to even put Edgar in there with Penn, but since hes rumored to co-mainevent UFC 112 with silva vs vitor it'll be worth the money. I don't know... Eddie is a really really good fighter (from what I hear, I have only seen the Imada fight) but I'd definitely love to see BJ against Aoki. Who knows... UFC may notice how thin their LW division is after BJ brutalises Edgar and tries to get some of these guys in. Seriously, will people shut the up about Aoki vs. Penn? The ONLY way that fight will even be a little bit interesting is if Aoki gets Penn to the ground, and that just simply isn't happening. Penn's standup is miles and miles better than Aoki's will ever be and will simply pick him apart on the feet.

Aoki would be 100% screwed in a fight against BJ. In fact, EVERY Lightweight in the world is 100% screwed against BJ Penn.

Aoki's standup is so bad that the fans turned against him at DREAM 10, which was before the whole middle-finger thing.
Seriously, he threw a kick that was blocked so many times that his opponent's elbow area turned purple. He seemed incapable of doing anything more than landing glancing shots and the aforementioned blocked kicks.
It's almost sad to see how bad Aoli's standup is. Penn would run circles around him.

Got to admit I haven't always been the biggest Penn fan, I think not a case of talent but more how blase he has been over the years barely training & relying on his talent to get through fights. That was why I expected the Stevenson/ Forian/ Diego fights to be close
Its been proven now though that Penn is taking this seriously at long last & he's already cleared out the best the UFC has to offer, this is why no-one is saying Penn is screwed.
He has won over his detractors with damn impressive fights where he has virtually shut down his division. Really Edgar & Maynard are possibly looking as his next two challengers & neither really offer anything that will threaten BJ.
Beyond the UFC who is there?
Aoki would be a threat possibly on the ground, but BJ won't allow that and would destroy him standing. Plus lets not forget that BJ can grapple some himself. I think the same applies for Alvarez. Hellboy has made it clear he will not fight in the UFC. If I recall correctly he was insulted by Zuffa's offer when talking contracts after the Pride buyout. Gilbert Melendez is a fun fighter to watch but couldn't even picture him getting by the likes of sherk or Guida let alone challenging BJ. JZ isn't the fighter he was a couple of years ago. Gomi needs to dedicate himself & rack up a couple of wins before even talking of the rematch.

Melendez has already beaten Guida and can probably beat Sherk with the right gameplan.

Every time BJ has had a new contender announced, at least a few people here have come and talked about how BJ is going to get pummeled. I was one of them..and I learned my lesson... my problem with BJ is how big of a bitch he come off as whenever he had a fight coming up with GSP. And then of course his comments after the first GSP fight and especially after the second fight... but since his second loss he looks amazing. His training looks unlike anything I have seen any fighter do...and he seems dedicated to cementing his place as not ONE of the best but thee absolute best in the world. I thought if any in the LW division would give him problems it would be Florian or Sanchez...and BJ destroyed both of them. He literally toyed with them for a couple of rounds so that people could finally shutup about him having horrible cardio and then he finished both Sanchez and Florian. Edgar is an amazing fighter. But he is going to be destroyed. I'll say it for the 1383738th time..he needs to go to 145.
