That does look really good.
Although, in strictly my opinion, I still think the "stock" Mattel headsculpts are better then Jakks. It may be because the overall figures are better thus making even a lacking headsculpt look good.
Either way, phenomenal job there.

This reminds me of a comment made by a mattel worker for the wwe line in an interview recently. He said he had seen great scans that had a crappy paint job and ruined the likeness and said they were avoiding this but this clearly shows mattel didnt get it right here. That Taker honestly looks spot on. Mattel did the hard work of sculpting but slipped on the painting. That seriously looks amazing and im tempted to try it myself.
Did you just put a light wash over the brows and goatee? Or did you strip the paint back on those particular areas? If so, how do you strip the paint?

I Totally agree with this staement, when it comes to the hair on matel figs. nice job on the Taker Fix-up I mixed some reddish brown semi clear washes for the hair and layered up the goatee and sideburns with the same color. Thanks guys, I think Mattel needs a lot of paint improvements. Jakks had some messed up paint apps to but they really are superior when it came to things like eyes. Mattel give their eyes no pupils! Also take a look at their John Cena's shorts ( Mattel's) if I did not know that John Cena wore Jean shorts the figure would give no indication that those shorts are suposed to be denim. Thats a sculpt/ paint issue though as Jakks had texturing. I'd have to take a closer look at the Edge scan to see if there's something nice hiding under there but I think that Jakks has them beat on that too One thing that's killing these mattels though is how they connect the hair. On all the long-haired guys it looks like they are wearing wigs. Mattel could really learn a thing or two from Jakks on that too.

That looks fantastic! Great job!! I knew the eyebrows and the pupils were off, but I couldn't figure out what would make it look better! You sure figured it out! Simply amazing! ^^

Yes that's the one thing I complaind about with the Mattel HHH was the hairline. Then heed the hairline to be molded to the sculpt and then add the rest of the hair.

Thanks Kaneisdaman!
I stripped all the paint off with nail polish remover (except the hair) and I built up some subtle highlights and shades with some transparent washes and drybrushing on the paint. This is minor however, just doing the eyebrows and the beard helps a lot, resculpting the hairline helps a lot too.
taker has reddish brown hair that he dies black but giging it the subtle reddish tinge with black and brown transparent washes maks it look a bit more like him.

Couldn't agree with you more which is what puts me off on wanting to buy certain figures from Mattel line. You did an excellent job with that and would not hesitate to buy that in an instant. It is now evident that Jakk's painting skills are way better than Mattel's.

No worries mate. So nail polish remover does the trick? I could recall hearing that wrecks figures but i guess not. So when it comes to doing the eyebrows and goatee, those were just like shades werent they? They appear to be more lighter and softer with some degree of transparency. Looking at your pic of the original scan, its very evident next to your fixup how horribly the eyebrows were done with the zig zag edge. Even without doing the hair or eyebrow/goatee fixes, adding pupils alone improves the scan a fair bit right?
