Cut them off?
The long knee pads like that are tough to get off. Perhaps boiling them? With mine, since I never intend to sell them, I just cut off the one's I didn't like and replaced them with fabric pads I got from either Ralph's or Karisno.

pop the boots off. Just heat the lower leg for a minute with a hair dryer and pop the boot off the calf. Pull off the pads and then pop the boot back on.

soak the figure from the knees down in hot water for a few minutes. Pull the boots off, slide the pads off and replace the boots. Why anyone would cut them off when you don't have to is beyond me.

I'll answer that. Because pads like that don't allow for full movement and to me they are less than worthless. It's easier to cut them off than remove them by other methods. No one is right or wrong here, it's just a preference.

Rhodes' knee pads are really cool and match his outfit perfectly, but in order to keep them updated, he really shouldn't be wearing knee pads. I guess it's a good thing I only have this set MOC.

No one is right or wrong here, it's just a preference. You right, but even if range of movement is the issue, there is better way to correct it without complete removal of the pad IMO. Cut a small slit in back of the knee pad (top and bottom). It will allow better range of movement and doesn't completely destroy the pad. On the plus side, the pads on my E2 Triple H have no movement issues at all. I don't know if Mattel 'softened' them or what, but they work great. But as you said everything personal preference.

i didn't even have to heat my Cody's boots up to pop them off, they came off relatively easy with just a tug on them. give it a try before you ruin the knee pads.
