It's going to be weird to see 2 different "Legends" lines in stores, Mattel's and Jakks'. It's going to be interesting to see which sells more also.

WWE Legends is already better than Classic Superstars. Well the Mattel Legends line has some superiority over the previous Jakks WWE Classic line already. What I refer to is Jakks' future NWA line as well as they're TNA Classic line "Lords of the Ring" or whatever they're called. I assume that they're different lines but I could be wrong.

I probably won't get this Steamboat as I'm not a fan of him or of classics in general, but it looks absolutely fantastic. The detail, the clothing and the accessory remind me of some of those awesome Japanese figures - except this one will also have fantastic articulation. For those of you that are into the classic guys, seeing this must be tremendous. do you think these will include 1/1000 belts?? 1/1000 belts are only for basic style figures. These are elites. So maybe if they announce a new promotion for the legends line, there will be something similar. But they won't come under the current 1/1000 promotion.

They should at least put out older title belts. Obviously the NWA belts are off limits but a classic IC would work

Sensationalize things much? No, not at all. I wouldnt say the Legends line is better the Classic Superstars yet. Jakks still has like a 125 to 1 advantage on "exclusive" figures then to Mattel. They might catch up one day but if Jakks goes through with their NWA line and does it like they should, then Mattel wont have a chance. Mattel strong point is going to be their basic and elite figures.

If this isn't going off-topic too much, why was Steamboat unable to be made with Jakks? He works for WWE so it couldn't have been a personal thing...I'd rather see it with Mattel, anyway, but am curious.

I thought it was down to a dispute/settlement with his ex-wife over his name and/or merchandising rights. But this must have been settled over the last year or so.

I agree that Mattel has a long way to go to surpass Jakks in the Classic/Legends type figs as they've had some grade A figs over the past few years, but in comparison to the WWE Legends line from Mattel Vs NWA Classics line from Jakks, in the big picture of it all, I don't know how well the NWA Classics line will fair a retail. Sure guys like me or you will purchase a bunch but at say a Target or TRU how many regular customers will purchase a Magnum T.A. over say a Bret Hart?

Probably because by the time his divorce was settled Jakks only had about a year left on their contract with the WWE so I doubt they wanted to spend all the money needed to sign/scan/sculpt Steamboat for just one figure release.

I dont think using the NWA line is a fair comparison though. I mean what do the figures look like? We havent seen them. Jakks could come out with multiple new torso molds, new cowboy boot molds basically fix little things that were wrong. Everyone bases Jakks based on what they did from 08-10. We need to see what they do from 2010 and beyond before we crown Mattel God of all things created.

So cool that it comes with the actual dragon.
I really like the look of the packaging.

I agree entirely with you that for all we know Jakks' NWA line can be leaps ahead of the Mattel WWE Legends line in detail, BUT I was getting at sales. Again, for you and me and other collector's we'll pick up a Magnum T.A., the Rock 'N' Roll Express, the Von Erichs, etc. but what young kid at a Wal-Mart, TRU, or Target will pick them over a Steamboat, Jake Roberts, or Hitman that has a huge WWE logo on it?

I highly doubt that there will be an influx of new parts for the Jakks NWA line. Since the retail demand will be far less then it was for the Jakks WWE line, the pressure on Jakks will be to keep the NWA line as cost minimal as possible, meaning they will make the most of the existing molds. It is the same situation for the TNA line. For all intents and purposes, the TNA and NWA lines will be "also" lines in the Mattel WWE aisle at Toys R Us.
