We cant kid ourselves with certain facts. one of them being that John Cena is being made with the same persona Hulk Hogan had in the 1980's. Cena and Hogan are a lot alike with that being they are limited in the ring and also are seemingly worshiped by 95% of kids that watch WWE. Cena with his "Hustle, Loyalty, Respect" thing, and Hogan with his "Eat our vitamins and say your prayers" both phrases that are or were aimed at kids. Until 1996 Hulk Hogan was probably the person every kid and parent looked up to as a symbol of hope, which also happens to be the same thing with Cena. Then when Hogan turned heel in WCW, wrestling was never the same again. Not only did Hogan attract so much heat, but WCW's ratings took off when Hogan revealed he was part of the NWO. Fast forward to 2003, which is when John Cena turned face and has become the white-babyface Hogan was in the 80's, although Cena seems to come off more as annoying to some because some are tired of his face run.
Can you imagine Cena all of a sudden betraying a long time friend and spitting in the face of his kid fanbase? It is a hard thing to do considering the guy's reputation as "superman" who comes to the aid of everyone, but then again so did Hogan in the 80's. Im sure most of people on this site and around the IWC community have been on WWE to turn Cena heel. But Vince Mcmahon has the last say in the matter. With the rumored move to monday nights for TNA, a Cena heel turn may not be far off. Just as the start of the WCW/WWF war, Mcmahon may do the same thing WCW did in 1996 with Hogan, only this time it will be done with John Cena. Overall do you think the moment Cena turns heel it will be as huge as Hogan's and how can it be done? Vince I'm sure has had the answer for quite some time as to how and when Cena will be heel, but for the rest of us wrestling fans all we can do is wait.

Some of us are already kinda expecting a Cena heel turn. So, it wouldn't nearly be as surprising and shocking as Hogan's heel turn was back in '96. So, to answer your question, not even ing close. I don't think many people would even care if Cena turned heel or not. ALOT of people cared when Hogan turned heel, that's for sure.

I'm afraid WWE would have Cena turn slowly like CM Punk if he does turn heel, which would dissapoint. I do think going the Batista route of having him attack an allie would be shocking for the crowd(or tremendous if the crowd is a 'smart' one).

It's 2010, not much can really be THAT shocking in wrestling today...especially a heel turn.

What Hogan was then, Cena is now. Granted, to fewer people, but Cena is in the same slot. The kids would flip out, and that's exactly what they did to Hogan. The WWE's fanbase is largely children nowadays, so I'd bet that a good portion of the audience would care.

Maybe if he stays the top face for 10 more years and if the internet isn't around anymore, and they erase the fact that it's "sports entertainment" from a lot of people's minds

Cena is 20x better in the ring than Hogan ever was.
To be honest...I really wouldn't be surprised if Cena never turned heel..like ever...

Here's the thing I realized with Cena... he always wins, in fact he wins too much. When The Rock and Austin were huge they didn't always win. I can't count the number of times that Rock had a title shot and looked like a shoe-in to win and then for some reason or another lost. I was heartbroken when he didn't win at WM 2000, but was ecstatic when we got our first face champion run at Backlash the next month. Cena losing to Sheamus (and in 2006 to Edge) was the first time I can ever remember feeling like WWE handled his character properly. Cena is going to turn heel eventually, and to be honest I don't think we will see it coming. The most effective heel turn is one in which you are totally shocked and it isn't built up (ala Chris Jericho's built up turn in 2008). Also, in order for Cena to turn heel he needs someone who is really worthy of a big push to be his nemesis, not HHH or Big show...like a true up and comer.

I would honestly mark out and be pleasantly surprised if just out of the blue he attacked some huge fan favorite and sided with Vince. I think at this point it would be just as shocking, if it were pulled off right (and without Bobby Heenan there to say "but who's side is he on?!")
I know it gets said about a lot of people, but Hogan has some much better work over in Japan. He can work a good match, he just doesn't here because he doesn't need to and it's not what gets over. Cena can work a good match too, but is just the worst booked wrestler ever.

How can you even argue that? How about the fact that people have been online talking about wrestling for as long as there has been an internet? And how about the fact that Hogan's turn was pretty much the last thing to happen before the internet blew up and wrestling went into its peak when the internet started getting big, then everyone started learning all about the "behind the scenes" stuff, so wwf and wcw started breaking kayfabe out in the open and everyone felt cool and smart for knowing what was up. By 2001 or so, that stuff was run into the ground and there were no secrets or surprises. There was no where to go from there

No, not even close. What Hogan did in the 80s and iconic super hero he built, too only turn in the 90s.....cant be topped.

I have read, though, that Cena mechandise sells too well and turning him heel would hurt those sales. Vinced is not one to kill the cash cow. At least not in the foreseeable future. if fan interest in him would wane, it could happen sooner than later.

How can you even argue that? cause there was the internet in 96 . . . and before that, but maybe 1% of people were doing anything on the internet by then. there was basically nothing except "ric flair ate my balls" websites and then the internet killed wrestling when everyone got online
