Id love to see footage of them somewhere other then Texas. It honestly would be a first. I know David won the Missouri HW Title but thats really not that big of a deal IMO. Ive never even seen them in Georgia so this would be a first. I'll look for a video. Have you ever gotten a chance to see Heroes of World Class though? Very insightful. Much more indepth than the WWE doc on WCCW. It runs over 2 hours long and covers everything. |

You can see a few matches of Davids on Youtube, where he was a heel in the Florida area, actually he wrestle's Windham in a match. As for the rest, I have read all the replys, not one mentioned that after Kerry lost his foot in his motorcycle accident in 86', he was real heavy into pain meds, like many stars, but I had heard that during a match with Col. Debeers, Debeers pulled the boot off by accident which revealed his amputated foot , and put Kerry over the edge, and heavier into drug use, hence the writing his own perscription and getting caught. Mike was never gonna be the big star as his 3 older brothers and Chris, as many here said and it was in the doc's, he just couldn't live up to the Von Erich name. Also Fritz and WCCW was the first to use cameras in the ring as well as entrance music for the wrestlers, something the other feds started to use afterwards. I think had David lived, he would have been a multitime NWA champ and would have been one of the biggest stars of the 80's. I really wish Kevin had stayed in the business after his brother's deaths, he was one of my favorites as well as Kerry, but he knew times were changing and he didn't want any part of the future.

I have to side with Von Erich Claw on this one -- the Von Erich's definitely drew outside of Texas. The national TV exposure of WCCW didn't fail, the company fell apart when the repeated tragedies struck. Obviously, they weren't as white hot elsewhere as they were in Texas, but if the Von Erichs had come to the Richmond Coliseum when I was a kid, we would have gone nuts.
I'd say one problem with "proving" how over they were in other places is the fact that they were happy working in Texas, and while they worked in Japan and other places, they probably never would have left to work full-time in other territories if WCCW had stayed financially healthy. Nationally, most people knew them from the WCCW show. I think the fact that everyone regards them as these great legends is proof of their appeal in other places (there weren't any internet smarks back then to over-value them). Their appeal was genuine and widespread.
