Now before you go smiting and bitching and whining....read!
Ive been a very loyal and satisfied Jakks customer for...well since they brought in the BCA line. Ill freely admit that I did get out of collecting with the TTL figures but RA style quickly brought me back. I have always been satisfied with the "style" that Jakks puts out and even now with the announcement of TNA and Legends of the Ring figures in RA style I will continue my collection....
Now when Mattel was announced as the new brand for WWE figures I looked at it as a good place to stop. Nothing against Mattel but I had put enough money into a collection to just start over again. I figured that if I saw a few mattels that I liked that I would pick them up however I wouldnt be a hardcore collector again. When we first saw protos for the basic line, i freely admit I didnt and still dont like them. If basic style is your thing then more power to you however I simply dont like them. However the elite style really caught my eye and they looked very well done. Looking through the first series, outside of Edge there really wasnt anyone I wanted. I passed on the Edge simply because the jacket looked like a bitch to remove. (I might go back and pick him up later on). Once I saw the protos for Orton, DiBiase and Rhodes I figured since these 3 are my current favorites that I would pick them up and just display them. So without further ado, I present my first but probably not my very last (though it wont be many) pick ups....
These figures are much better in person then from seeing a picture. Im not going to say they are better then Jakks, nor will I say Jakks is better then Mattel. Both companies, like it or not offer something different to consumers good and/or bad. I look at it this way. Wrestling figures is like peanut butter, you get to choose a jelly to go with it, some like Strawberry (Jakks) and some like Grape (Mattel) but neither is really all that bad. While I wont be running out to try and find Batista and Triple H...Rhodes, Edge, Jericho are at the top of my lists to get and seeing as how the Legends line is Elite style I will purchase a select few of those as well. I really commend Mattel on the detail and effort they put into these figures, Im just anxious to see in 4-5 years or whenever they lose the license to the line if they keep up the same effort.
