To avoid exposing students to “transvestites, transsexuals and who knows what else,” the Board struck the curriculum’s reference to “sex and gender as social constructs.” – The Board removed Thomas Jefferson from the Texas curriculum, “replacing him with religious right icon John Calvin.” – The Board refused to require that “students learn that the Constitution prevents the U.S. government from promoting one religion over all others.” – The Board struck the word “democratic” from the description of the U.S. government, instead terming it a “constitutional republic.” thinkprogress.org/2010/03/12/texas-education-board-cuts-thomas-jefferson-out-of-its-textbooks/I think the most insane one is the one striking Jefferson from being learned about.

"Well, you see kids, we had George Washington, then John Adams, and...um....James Madison was our 4th President..." He's being Chris Benoit'd.

I live in Texas all my life and I HATE it. It's just a bunch of ignorant bitchy parents and rednecks.

This is pretty ing ridiculous. The sad part is this will probably turn into a "**** all over Texas" thread, but when crap like this goes down it's hard to argue for it...

I'm usually damn proud to be both a Houstonian and a Texan, but ing hell, this crap justifies almost every Texan stereotype I can think of.

That one is technically accurate. Still kind of dumb though.
But the rest of it is appalling and sad. Not teaching about one of the founders of this country, and instead focusing on a religious zealot especially bothers me. Things like this are why out school systems are in bad shape.
Geez, you have no idea how frustrated I am right now.

I lived in Dallas for 4 years and I loved it. That said, this is ricockulous. Texas has been getting a bit odd in the past few years. Before long they will be teaching kids that our planet is 4 b..HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF YEARS OLD, the universe was created by a B..GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODg Bang and looking at bones of a JESUS..saurus Rex, determining through carbon dating that MOUNTAIN DEW IS THE BEST SODA EVER MADE.

The part about the word "Democratic" makes sense. The US is not a true democracy. If it was, a certain former Texas governor never would've been President, and Al Gore wouldn't be one Tony away from a Grand Slam. The rest of it is just tarded. Why remove TJ? The best explanation you're likely to get is "cuz we don't want the young'ns to be larnin' 'bout white fellers what like colored gals."

I am in Texas, and surprised they didn't throw good ol' George W in there somewhere. (they probably did, and I just don't know) maybe he is getting the Benoit treatment too. haha..and as far as Thomas Jefferson goes, maybe he was the first one to realize that "it's all pink on the inside!"

Some states are theocratic, some are socialistic, but only a few are Constitutional.
