I disagree with you that wrestling is fake. Wrestling is NOT fake at all. Wrestling could be hurt, etc. I take top rope suplex, it IS hurt. I take cheapshot, it is hurt. So how suppose was that fake? You take chest chop and leave the venue with hand mark on the chest, so is that fake? No. My 8th grade teacher told me that the Wrestling ring is like bed springs...... smh. And the whole class agreed with him and i was the only one who disagree ( of course). But ... bed springs ??... I hate when ppl think wrestling is a joke , and wrestlers are a joke . Wrestling is almost like football , but withOUT helmets and pads. YEah I got into an arguement with my teacher last year about wrestling and everyone made fun of me blah blah blah.

I guess I was lucky that it was the Attitude Era during high school. I dont remember anyone ever making fun of me for liking wrestling.

I'm a girl...most people don't tell me I'm lame. I mean they assume I only watch wrestling for cute boys. It's actually more cute that they would assume such things. I actually hate telling anyone what wrestlers I do find cute. I'd rather discuss sexy moves.

Responses I have given to people in the past: "I know it's fake. It's 2010, not 1987." "I used to love the show The Sopranos... watched it for a long time until I found out it was fake." "Wrestling is real. Baseball is fake." lol. Ive come to find out that most people are closet wrestling fans. After revealing you like wrestling, they start talking about it... Like "Hey you remember Stone Cold? He was awesome!" Like what you like and dont worry about it. I understand wanting to defend it, but you dont owe anybody an explanation. Nice. My responses: "The only people dumber than anybody who thinks wrestling is real are people who think that wrestling fans think its real." "Movies are fake, you watch those right?" "Wrestling is real. Baseball is fake." "How is wrestling gay when UFC has 2 guys in swim trunks laying on top of each other for 3 rounds?"

I work for Safeway, so I have some coworkers/friends that are half/half that like it & others that dont know about it say "its fake" or "used to watch it". One of my friends who works the meat department said (if he gets a hard time about it) "yeah, i like it cause it like a man soap opera"

Everone says "it's gay." or "You know it's fake right?" I was buying A Mattel Matt Hardy Elite and this ing mexican worker walks up to me and says "you know its fake right?quote] That is surprising because here in Mexico Wrestling is highly revered. Santo is like Tom Cruise around here to Americans. I have never had a problem with anyone about it except one guy. I was looking at the WWE aisle in Walmart 3 years ago and this guy my age starts talking about it. Says HHH is holding down people etc. and how he hates them. I said back and you know this how? He says it's all over the internet....Lord...You don't have to believe everything out there. I tried to calm him down but he looked at me like I had two heads.

Wrestling has been a huge part of my life for 20 years. I've never really even gotten sh*t for liking it. I was in high school during the "Attitude Era" and all of my close friends at least knew who the guys were if they didn't follow it every week.
I don't know what my life would be like without the WWE.

Next time someone says "OH MY GOD this is SOooooooooooooo fake!" Im gonna say "IT"S STILL REAL TO ME DAMNIT!!!" lmao. Im honestly suprised that didnt come up sooner, lmao. Theres a shirt some guy made, i lost the web adress, but i copied the quote from it, it was a black shirt with white? lettering. it said "Why do you watch that? You know it's fake, right?" These are words that every wrestling fan has heard, and many have heard time and time again. But few who ask such questions really take the time to give it a chance. Sure, it's a bit cheesy at times, as any fan will admit, but the men and women who step into that ring are breaking their backs and risking their necks to enact for us stories as old as time. Stories of hope and despair. Stories of victory and defeat. Stories of treachery and revenge. Wrestling is no less an art form than music, and the squared circle is no less a stage than Broadway. So when you see those men in brightly-colored tights jumping around and pretending to beat each other up, remember: there's more to wrestling than clotheslines and references to genitalia. And if you're not down with that..."

Interesting thread.
I'm nearly 18 now, but when I first got into wrestling I was 8 (so I got into it nearer to the end of the Attitude Era). One of my best friends for the last 10 years was also a massive WWE fan back then, and I still have one or two friends who still kind of keep up with it.
In primary school, most boys were fans of it. On some occasions people would play out a match on the field, or bring a couple of figures in to school.
In high school, there were so many boys who would first use all the cliches; 'WWE is two big muscle-men hugging each other', 'WWE is men in tights trying to pin each other to the mat', 'The blood is tomato sauce', 'They don't even hit each other', 'It is all fake and rigged' etc.
Yes, it's rigged, but no, it's not fake. No, the blood is blood. No, them falling off a ladder isn't faked. No, them being thrown through a table or a window isn't fake. And most importantly, there are some freaking hot women in WWE, so watching it doesn't make me gay. If they fear that wrestling may turn them on, whatever.
But, the best part is, nearly everyone who ever said WWE is gay, s*** or whatever used to watch it themselves. And once they reveal that, they start revealing everything; all the superstars and their traits, moves etc, all the catchphrases etc etc. They were fans, they just grew out of it... or maybe became too embarrassed to admit they like it.

I think the opinion on wrestling has changed over the years, least with my group of friends. It was cool back in school but now 'lame' and 'childish' .

You know what I hate? When people use the word gay to mean stupid. I've never seen anyone use the term "gay" to mean "stupid" when describing pro wrestling...they use "gay" to mean "homosexual" when describing wrestling. Then they use the "muscular oiled-up half-naked guys in spandex manhandling each other" argument. Totally homophobic POV, but at least when they say "gay" they mean it.

Honestly amatueur looks more gay to me than pro wrestling. Thos guys are really on each other pretty much all the time. But you can make gay out of almost anything if you have that mindset.
