I think somebody finally noticed that he was by far the absolute worst wrestler to ever step foot in a ring. His matches with Undertaker redefined the term "atrocious". He did kind of turn face after he attacked Harvey at Summerslam, but he was portrayed as a heel during his last appearance -- the battle royal for the vacant IC belt won by Razor and Martel. Everybody jumped his ass and dumped him out in less than a minute. And even if he stayed around as a face, marketing an abnormally tall wrestler in Bigfoot garb seems like a daunting task.
A true wrestlecrap pioneer.

he was just too awkward in the ring and after you feud with Undertaker where else could he have gone? He couldn't have any kind of a match with someone like Bret Hart or whoever. He's just too big and silly. Besides I heard his knees and back were starting to get bad then.

I liked him alot. I love when wrestlers are huge and intimidating. His feud with undertaker was wonderful. They should have had him go with Hulk Hogan. that would've been a draw! He wasn't supposed to be a wrestler like Bret Hart. He was perfect for what he was! I hate these kids nowadays talking about wrestler's workrates. If I never see the term again it will be TOO soon.

I found him entertaning as a kid because of his look. sure he makes Khali look like Bret Hart but whatever. I wonder what the exact reasons he left as well. too bad all the replies are just knocking the guy

I wonder what the exact reasons he left as well. too bad all the replies are just knocking the guy I'll agree that as a kid he was scary as hell and quite a presence. But the topic is asking why he left the WWF and I'm pretty sure his questionable knees and awful ability were key factors. The top babyfaces in the company at the time besides Taker were Bret, Luger and Razor. Putting him against amny ofg those guys wouldn't have worked out at all. I just think they had nobody to put him with and nothing left for the character. He currently is living in his home country of Argentina. Jorge has severe diabetes and his bad knees have confined him to a wheel chair I believe.

Gonzalez was a lumbering giant and served his purpose. He was still pretty new to the business so it's unfair to trash his wrestling skill. The man was a walking spectacle and was custom made for pro wrestling. He was pretty over in WCW as a face so it's safe to assume he would have been over in the WWF too if given a face run. I think he left WWF due to his health.
