So i'm 15 and this straight edge crapis getting on my nerves. Today I had a shirt on that had a pot leaf and this kid walks up and points at my shirt and says "You do that stuff?" and i'm very open of it and told him yes. Then I ask, "you?" and he said "No i'm straight edge for life" after that I just kinda nodded and said "ahh" as I don't like getting into those kinds of arguments. He then says "yeah I have better things to do than waste my life drinking and drugs." This kid was my age or maybe a little older. So if your gonna sit here and complain about weed or stuff like that don't bother because I want this to be a disscussion about straight edge. I know to some people this is a serious life style(I know for sure AdamBomb) and some people, like most on here only do it because of CM Punk. So my thing is how can you be straight edge when your only 15 and can't get achoal whenever you want? How exactly do you guys feel about this?

He's 15, he can't legally do anything anyways, so of course he's straight edge.
We've had this fight before and I don't care to have it again, but that's my thoughts.

Straight edge is just a cool label term. It's very easy to get alcohol and drugs if you're 15, by the way. I don't smoke, nor drink, nor do drugs, so I am "straight edge" though I hate that term.

I think labeling yourself as "straight edge" is completely ridiculous. Not doing drugs is fine (I don't either -- I've never even put a cigarette in my mouth), but acting like you're some superior being because if it shows that you're actually probably a complete tool.

1. Not this thread again.
2. Where's AdamBomb so he can break this whole Straight Edge thing down for us.
3. Even though I don't really care about the whole Straight Edge thing, or wheather someone labels themselves, the kid is right. 15 year olds have no business doing drugs or drinking. Just my take on it. If you're 15 and love pot enough to sport a shirt with the leaf on it, then you really need to find something productive to do.
I used to be against it, but I've come to realize that this Straight Edge thing is mostly intensified by teenage kids nowadays. Kids just need to belong to something, they just need that feeling. Well, alot of kids do anyway. Most of them will grow out of being so self righteous about it.

My dad is 80. He doesn't drink, smoke or do drugs. Is he considered straight edge?
Adolf Hitler didn't drink, smoke, do drugs, have sex or eat meat. Is he considered straight edge as well?

I couldn't agree anymore. I am no where near a drug user or smoker. But to think I am way better then everybody else is pretty ridiculous.

I'm 21 and straight edge(or whatever the you call it since i dont listen to punk music and have sex with my gf) and I don't give a fart about CM Punk so explain that. It just seems like a low life lifestyle, everyone I've ever met that's been involved with any of that stuff has been a classless piece of scum. Plus people whom do drugs or anything of that nature gladly flaunt it with T Shirt's and what not however if someone who is straight edge does that we usually get crap for it when we are the ones within the law, go figure. I don't personally go out of my way to attack people who do that crap but if they are annoying about it I will, I usually just stay away from them. I used to gladly hang out with people who weren't edge but history has proven a lot of those people have low morals and just aren't the kind of friends I need.

Anyone who advertises some sort of "group" that they feel like they are in are just grandstanding. There is no reason that people should be walking around with pot leaf t shirts or straight edge t shirts. You are all a bunch of posers who are drawing attention to yourselves and I can't stand any of it. It's sort of like (if for whatever ungodly reason people collecting wrestling figures became some sort of separatist group) you wear a t shirt with a gigantic Elite Randy Orton figure on it that has a tagline like "Don't be a punk, get 'em all!!!!" or some terrible garbage like that. If you are something, just be it and shut the hell up. If you're on one end, great. No need to flaunt it. If you are on another end, don't be a dick. You have to realize if you leave the house with something on your body that might cause some sort of stir, you are drawing attention to yourself and setting yourself up for some sort of reaction. Simple solution, don't do it. God, the only thing wrong with the world is the people. Sorry, but I am tired of all of this. There are no groups. Everyone is a human. Basically just with different opinions.

I don't begrudge anybody being straight edge, but advertising the fact as if it makes you superior to everybody else is just rediculous. Fair enough, you don't take drugs, smoke or drink alcohol... doesn't mean you are better than anyone who does. The vast majority of people who aren't straight edge just drink alcohol and stay away from the drugs. So essentially being 'straight edge' means you refrain from drinking. You can't really say 'I stay away from drugs' as most people do anyway as they know the risks.

While I totally agree with you, I'm not sure if I'm in the category of people you explained. Everyone here knows that I'm a Christian. I don't go around "grandstanding" it, because to be honest, people who know me have found out because of my lifestyle and not because I run around shouting about it. But I do own a few T-Shirts and ties with crosses on them and phrases like "Jesus Saves" on them. I honestly don't see anything wrong with being so proud of being a Christian that I'll wear a shirt proclaiming such. Plus, in my case it really isn't flaunting. It's more of a sign of my glory to God and all that he's done in my life.

Wear whatever kind of shirt you want, you just think it's kind of badass now but in a few years you'll think you were kind of solly for wearing shirts like that. In the height of my stonerdom way back when, I'd sport the RVD 420 shirt and other shirts thinking i was so cool. it's silly though.
i was just like that kid when i was 15, thinking drugs were death and drinking was bad. CM Punk in ROH got me on the straightedge stuff, and until I was 16, stayed on the straight and narrow. in the end though, do what you does.

At the end of the day, straightedge has become a mere fashion statement. A bunch of insecure kids who feel the need to belong to some sort of label to make themselves feel important. I know that there's a lot of guys out there who lived through the roots of straight edge and it's really a fundamental part of their life, but the majority of people who are 'straight edge' nowadays are those 'scene' kids, who, ironically are under the legal drinking age anyway. As for the pot T-shirt, that's pretty much EXACTLY the same as those straight edge kids. Being overt about something which should be private, just to conform to a certain look or style. Considering OP is 15 though it's understandable, I wore and did some pretty stupid things at 15 lol .

I love how you assume that everyone on here that doesn't drink, smoke, do drugs, whatever does because of CM Punk. I was "straight edge" before Punk came to WWE and heard of him.

It's ignorant people like this that are the reason I don't use the term straight edge anymore. First of all, I can't believe I'm the first person pointing out the fact that you're 15 and wearing a shirt with a pot leaf on it. Where the has society gone wrong that your parents, teachers, principal, etc. etc. have yet to pull you aside to tell you to take that crapoff? And before you get on about expression and freedom of speech, there's a time and a place for it. The time is not "at fifteen years old" and the place is not "a public school." Now, as far as I understand it, all this kid did was strike up a conversation with you and then answer a question. Correct me if I'm wrong, but where in there does he cause you any harm? I don't get why there is a stigma attached to the straight edge lifestyle, where people automatically assume that you traded in drugging and drinking for a high horse. Some of the most down to earth people I know are straight edge. Why does someone else's decision to turn down drugs and alcohol cause you so much strain? He's not stopping you from smoking (although at your age, someone should). If someone else wants to leave that stuff alone, that's their decision made for their own reasons. Who is anyone to tell them that decision is wrong, or that their reasons for it are wrong? Live your own life, stop worrying about others. I swear, it's ridiculous. Would you rant and rave about someone going on a diet, because your preference is for eating junk? For abstaining because you like whores and prostitutes? It's the same deal.
