With the new Elite protos we've seen, I am a little frusterated with Mattel's line-up attires for Elite. Now, I buy every Elite, and buy a few Basics, but it seems like the Basics I buy come out in Elite style the exact same way in later Elite series (which I collect all of).
For instance, these are the Basics that i've already bought, and now we are finding out that they have Elite versions:
Basic 1 Kofi= Elite 4 Kofi Basic 1 Cena= Elite 3 Cena Basic 1 Triple H= Elite 2 Triple H 2-Packs 1 Jericho= Elite 4 Jericho Signature Jericho= Elite 4 Jericho 2-Packs 1 DiBiase= Elite 2 DiBiase
This is a large group of pure re-released figures. Now, I know it's like "well, you chose to buy them", but my frusteration is that we don't have a clue what attire the figures will come in before protos (aside from PPV). I want a certain figure, and if I choose to not buy the Basic form thinking that the Elite figure will have the same attire, then sure enough the Elite figure will be different, you know?
I'm sure I'm not the only one that is frusterated about this because many collectors here adore the Elite line. However, if Elites are going to be primarily re-released Basics, then doesn't that take away the "percieved value" of the figure, especially when it comes out months later that the Basic version?
Please share your thoughts, thanks.

Some people probably like the option of choosing whether to get a Basic or Elite figure in the same attire. If they weren't doing this, I promise you someone would bitch because, "I don't like the Basic figures, but I love the attire, why didn't the Elite come in that one!"
And if you miss a series, it's not these things aren't mass produced. They'll be available online for a long time.

Yeah, Im staying away from figures that could be ten times better with Entrance Gear. For example, John Morrison. But Ill pick up guys like Dolph Ziggler just because I dont really care about a tiny vest.

I agree 100%. I posted about this a month ago! Why do I have repaint Elites? as a collector I LOVE the elite. But look at Jericho and Legacy and Kofi. So when basic 4 comes out Im not gonna get Goldust or Regal. Just wait for the Elite

I get what you're saying. It really comes to whether or not you're patient. I mean if you really prefer the Elite style just hold out. or if certain stars don't usually have accessories or entrance gear then basic should be fine, that's what I do. I also don't buy figs of stars I'm not really fans of so I guess I cherry pick more than you do but you get what I'm saying right?

I buy all Basic Series..
I buy Elites of characters that come with something unique (ie: Matt Hardy coat, Christian jumpsuit)
for PPV's I buy previously unreleased characters & attires I like alot.

I just wish we could stop getting so many of the same people & get a deeper roster. They've promised us 72 different people over the first year. So be patient.

than get just the elites opposed to basics... duh That's really easy to say. However, back in Jan, how were we supposed to know that Basic 1 Kofi would be made again in the same exact outfit in Elite 4? The problem isn't buying the Elites, because I am buying ALL of them. The problem is that it appears Elite figures are made in the same outfits as older Basics, so how do we know if Elites will be made in the same, or different outfits? I don't want to buy practically 2 identical figures.

I guess it's just that there's a certain relief in finally finding figures in stores, but if I wait, then I'll see the figures (Basic) and be like "will this be made exactly in elite?" and then have to guess/hope about Mattel's decisions for the Elite figure. It would be so much better if Mattel could hint or describe figures down the road without protos- like 2-3 series down say the color suit, or something along those lines.

Goldust's attire isn't what I wanted it to be on Basic, and a Regal is a Regal, not much variation in his outifit. Wrestlers in particular that I'm frusterated about are people that have varying attires from week to week like: Rey Mysterio CM Punk Chris Jericho Edge Kofi Kingston Miz Morrison Hart Dynasty Bourne Christian

72 different people by Jan '11.........wow. Anyway,I have to have at least 1 of every different character,so it doesn't matter to me if they are elite or not.So I buy both if ncessary. I will say that ones that are identical to basic relesases are far less appealing and seemingly a waste of a slot in a series.

That Kofi is NOT the same. It has a different design. You can tell that, while it is green, it has the ppv2 design. I would have preferred a different color, but it is not the same.

Personally I don't care, because to me they are different lines. I mean I do buy both Basic and Elite and while they can be displayed together I still like to seperate them.

kofi is wearing his ppv attire but in green not the basic 1 attire. dibiase is a bit different if you noticed his 2-pack has black wrist tape and his elite has white. im fine with the jericho with new scan but im hoping they cut his price.

I only collect Elites so I prefer this. At least if they do this you can choose between Elite and Basic
