I saw this thread on Sherdog, thought it was interesting and am blatantly stealing it. This is how the thread will work: We're looking for an opinion you held at one point in time that when you look at it now, you think "Wow, what was I thinking?" I will kick it off. -I remember being shocked when I read on the UFC website that GSP beat Hughes at UFC 65. My mindset was "Hughes in the main eventer, this is unbelievable!" -I thought Ken Shamrock had a chance in the second and third Ortiz fights. That's all I have at the moment. Let's get this going, this should be a funny thread.

I was expecting Kimbo to actually shut everyone up and just put on some spectacular performance in his debut. Mir would submit Carwin by the 2nd round. Lesnar is over-hyped and will be shut down by his next opponent. Liddell's comeback will be a success.(this we'll have to wait to see about, but I only held onto that for like a a few days after reading some of his interviews about returning) Fedor cannot be touched. Ever.(I realize now he's a human and unless he retires, he's gonna get beat eventually) Those are just a few of my more recent stupid MMA thoughts. lol

My three big ones were:
Big Nog will hold the Pride belt for years and is the greatest HW ever.
Dan Henderson's chin is made of stone and so are his fists, Silva will either have his nose caved in from an elbow or his jaw cracked from a right hand and Hendo will be the new 185lbs champ.
Roy Nelson has ground game but his hands are soft and unless he uses his gut to hold people down he isn't making it to the UFC.

- I thought Lesnar was going to be a huge bust and be KO'd before even getting near the title.
- Way back when, I always thought there was no way one guy could beat the other if one of them had a stronger looking physique.
- I thought there was no way a scrawny "random" (I knew little of him at the time) dude from Pride would beat Leben in his debut. Anderson sure did shut me up.
- Before I knew who he was, and really watched his fights at LW, I assumed Penn was nothing special based only on him not having a lot of fights on his record.
- I use to follow "MMA Math" to the extreme, and could never believe it when someone defied it with ease.
- I use to hate if a fight didn't stay on the feet and end in a KO.
- If a guy had a large amount of wins, way more than his opponent, I thought it would be an automatic victory for the guy with more wins.

I used to hate BJ Penn for...well...for no good reason, to be bluntly honest.
I used to be all about the HW's, thinking that only the big guys could put on the best fights.
I always thought that going to the ground was a guaranteed borefest no matter who was fighting who.

I remember this whole entire board had a hard-on for Cheick Kongo. Glad that ended.

I don't remember if I ever followed Kongo. I know I didn't mind him, but I always thought he was just an average fighter.

I overstated to make a point. I remember at leased a few people here who thought Kongo would beat Lesnar. Hah.

I always believe Tito when he says he's "in the best shape of his life." I'm like a battered wife who keeps believing that her husband will never hit her again.

I knew Tito was always full of sh*t when he would make excuses after his losses.

A general one that comes to mind: When fighters say "I had a great training camp" and "I'm in the best shape of my life" and "I've never felt this prepared for a fight."
When you first start watching MMA, those statements might raise your interest in watching the fight. Until you realize that every fighter says that, before every single fight, no matter what... and it's often completely false.

I knew Tito was always full of sh*t when he would make excuses after his losses. Yeah, that's the funny thing. He claims that he's in the best shape of his life going into the fight... Then after the fight, win or lose; his back was hurting him, he hurt his knee, he tore his shoulder... It's always something. But I always believe him. *sighhhhhhhh*

Kimbo Slice might actually be able to be a big force in MMA. This was LONG ago. Im still a huge fan of him but know he wont ever even touch top ten...

That one was funny considering he never even got a suspension after the fight.
