What? There are plenty of pro-wrestlers that have had MUCH success in MMA, many have which even pioneered the sport. Josh Barnett, Kazushi Sakuraba, Dan Severn, Ken Shamrock, Minoru Suzuki, Don Frye and many others. you actually have that alittle backwards. all the fighters you named were very good pro fighters before becoming pro wrestlers. they didnt jump from pro wrestling to MMA. Lesnar is really the only successful fighter who went from pro wrestling to MMA. and you cant even really call him successful yet.

Ken Shamrock was a pro wrestler in before entering MMA, he was trained by Buzz Sawyer and wrestled for South Atlantic Pro Wrestling in the late eighties.

Can you even really call it a championship?

Can you even really call it a championship? i'm talking about the fact that he has only 5 fights. yes he has achieved success so far, but his career has just started. i doubt it'll happen, but he could end up losing his next 4 fights or get hurt again. the names Hetfield mentioned are all legends. Lesnar needs a few more fights under his belt before we can start comparing him to those names or saying he has had a successful career.

Only had 3 real fights prior to fighting in UFC 1. Minoru Suzuki-Wrestled in New Japan, UWF and Pro Wrestling Fujiwara Gumi before founding Pancrase You can make the argument that these guys were very good Greco-Roman and Submission wrestlers before doing pro wrestling, but they did make the jump from pro wrestling to MMA.

UWFi was a shoot promotion Severn wrestled real, Olympic style wrestling prior to UFC, not pro wrestling. so no he didnt wrestle a pro wrestling match in 1992. i talked about Shamrock's wrestling career in a previous post and how it really wasnt much of a career. Suzuki was trained at the New Japan dojo, he didnt compete in the promotion. and UWF was a shoot promotion, as was PWFG.

It was more realistic than traditional pro wrestling, but the outcomes were still predetermined. Dan Severn trained for pro wrestling with Al Snow, who was his cornerman for UFC 4. He did Midwest indies and UWFI and this was after his amateur wrestling days.

Jst like New Japan & all Japan, however they worked a far stiffer style & moved away from the traditional pro style by eliminating moves off the ropes etc & focusingg on a realistic style with suplexes, strikes & submissions. As far as I'm aware the only legit UWFi match was Takada vs. Trevor Berbick. The former boxing world champion tried to stiff the organisation over money just prior to the match. Takada as a result kicked the hell out of Berbick's leg & made him flee the ring in panic. Priceless to watch if haven't seen before. A lot of wrestlers had success in MMA like Sak, Otsuka etc. Obviously Brock is the current high profile example in the US but both Ken & Severn were pro-wrestlers before trying MMA. In Ken's case it was Pancrase & severen's UFC 4 which he entered as the NWA World Champion & was helped in training by none other than Al Snow! However does it matter what the did before MMA? So long as they could hold their own I couldn't care if they crossed over from tiddlywinks.

So long as they could hold their own I couldn't care if they crossed over from tiddlywinks. while i agree about it not mattering, your knowledge of history is alittle off. now i was happy to learn from Really Awful Wrestling that UWFI & PWFG were worked promotions as i hadnt known that previously and went and checked it out and learned some other stuff, but you should probaly do the same with regards to UFC, Dan Severn, & the NWA Championship. Dan Severn was not the NWA Champion at UFC 4. i have no clue where you heard or read that, but its just not accurate nor possible. UFC 4 took place in 1994, Severn won the belt in 1995. i think you have your events a bit confused. Severn was not a pro wrestler prior to fighting to at UFC 4. he was a real wrestler. he wrestled in tournaments. he's friends with Al Snow and did train with him, but training with a person with a specific job doesnt give you that same job. if i trained with Peyton Manning, it doesnt make me a pro football player.

that's an interesting tidbit about al snow being in severn's corner, i'd never heard that. There was actually a funny moment at that PPV when an interviewer asked Severn what he was going to do in-between fights and Al Snow said "He's going to have sex. What do you think?"
