“What Is WCWA?” A constantly updated Fantasy Booking Wiki.
Q) What is this WCWA thing?
A) WCWA was launched on July 4th 2004. This is both the launch “in real life” as well as the date used in the federation’s storylines. Due to the time it takes for shows to be produced, WCWA has only progressed to early 2006 from this 2004 launch date.
Q) What does WCWA stand for?
A) World Championship Wrestling Alliance
Q) Is WCWA free?
A) WCWA is a labor of love and is presented as completely free entertainment. The only thing we ask from you, the readers, is for reviews of the shows you read. Afterall, feedback is the only way of improving.
Q) Who are all these wrestlers and why have I never heard of any of them!?
A) WCWA uses a roster made entirely under wrestlers who are not under contracts. This means, in the real world, TNA exists, WWE exists, and Ring of Honor exists. CMLL and AAA in Mexico exist and all the Japanese federations exist. Because of this, we have to be very selective with who we use. There have been several instances where wrestlers had to be “released from their WCWA contracts” due to signing with other companies in real life, such as Samoa Joe and Brian “Spanky” Kendrick.
Q) Why do you only do death matches? I hate that violent hardcore crap!
A) WCWA is a pro wrestling alternative. We provide the type of wrestling that has been missing for so many years, a fast paced, hard hitting, hardcore, comedy, hybrid. The comedy is legitimately funny, the hardcore is legitimately brutal, and the cruiserweights are legitimately spectacular. “The big leagues” don’t like to promote hardcore “death matches”, even though there is a niche for them. Even in fantasy booking, very few groups use death match wrestling to promote their brand, which we at WCWA like to fill.
Q) Where can I view your shows?
A) WCWA is available on a number of media platforms. The most important being our official website, www.freewebs.com/wcwaonline1 We are available on the WrestlingFigs.Com Forums, Wrestling Afterlife Forums, and The CHIKARA official forums, CHIKARA 101. If you ever see WCWA being released from other outlets, it’s likely unofficial. Please contact the producer of WCWA through whatever outlet you view it and inform of this, as soon as possible
Q) Why do you use German commentators for PPVs?
A) In addition to “the normal” English and Spanish commentators, WCWA “broadcasts” in German. This comes following our month long tour of Germany, which concluded with the Trial & Error: Results May Vary PPV.
Q) Where can I see old WCWA shows?
A) Unfortunately, due to bandwidth limits, we are always having to shuffle which shows stay on our website. We have an older website which works as a living archive, www.freewebs.com/wcwaonline, however only a handful of shows are on this website. We would someday like to publish our several hundred shows to be viewed in one place, however, with WCWA being a free service, we cannot afford to pump the money into it to purchase adequate web space for such an endeavor.
Q) Who does your awesome graphics?!
A) Our graphics are made by a number of sources and are always credited in the posts they appear. The original yellow and black WCWA logo was created by Guru in 2004, but has been edited several times since then to match the ever evolving moods of WCWA.
Q) What does that red and black text say in the WCWA banner? I can’t make it out!
A) It says “World Championship Wrestling Alliance: Violent and F**king Proud Of It!”. This is a censored version of the original banner.
Q) I like the rock songs you use for entrance music! But that Jimmy Jacobs guy, he uses a song I’ve never heard of. What is “kiss2kill”?
A) kiss2kill is a song that was written and performed by Jimmy Jacobs, written for Lacey. It can be found here:
Q) Where could I find past WCWA results? And a championship history?
A) Right Here
Q) During tag team matches, I see these points mentioned. What are these points? What do they do?
A) In WCWA, to earn a shot at the World Tag Team titles, a team must win three matches in a row. Should the team lose a match, they lose all three points. When a team wins the championship, their points are erased, meaning, there are no tag team championship rematches.
Q) Has anyone ever won every championship?
A) Simple answer, no. The only person to have won the World Junior Heavyweight & World Heavyweight is Jack Evans. The only other wrestlers to have held two titles are Shawn Michaels (World Heavyweight & International), Christopher Daniels (World Tag Team & World Junior Heavyweight), & Sick Nick Mondo (Death Match & International)
Q) What ever happened with that ICW/WCWA co-promoted show? Or the WCWA/XWF supershow?
A) Coming soon
Q) Why are you missing great wrestlers, like CHIKARA wrestlers? Or Nick Gage?
A) A long established point in WCWA has been realism. This means no owners of independent federations, such as Ian Rotten, John Zandig, Mike Quackenbush, etc. can be allowed in, because they are dedicated to their own projects and would not leave them. Likewise, their students and other dedicated wrestlers to them, like Mitch Page, Rollin Hard, Nick Gage, and the CHIKARA students that work exclusively for CHIKARA such as Hallowicked, Gran Akuma, Icarus, & The Colony are also off limits.
Q) What was this ALLA I occasionally hear about?
A) ALLA was a brief side project from WCWA, to trial new wrestlers. The initials stand for “American Lucha Libre Alliance”. It was modeled after CHIKARA with a WCWA twist. The most notable wrestler to come from ALLA was ironically Brain Damage.
Q) Have any titles from other federations been defended in WCWA?
A) Yes! The XWF Men’s title was defended, as Low Ki defeated Colt Cabana.
Q) What shows does WCWA produce?
A) WCWA produces Synthetic, for HBO and Revolution for Versus
Q) Has their ever been a superstar that appeared in the first show of WCWA and is still here today?
A) The one and only wrestler to appear on the first WCWA show and still have a spot on the roster is Jack Evans. Previously, Hardcore Hall of Famer Marty Jannetty joined him in this honor
