Hey guys,
I live in Victoria, BC, a ferry ride from Vancouver. I didn't buy a ticket to UFC 115, but that's not stopping me from getting to enjoy the weekend's festivities.
I attended a meet and greet with Chael Sonnen. I was quite apprehensive to meet him, as he's known for his arrogant comments towards other fighters. I was quite surprised when he introduced himself to every fan, and addressed each fan by name. He took photos with everyone. When it came time for me to meet, he was very cordial and not only signed his promo pic, but his page from the UFC Undisputed 2010 guide as well. Here's a pic from the meet and greet:
The pre-weigh-in meet and greet was a big more formal. Officials told us we can't take pics with the fighters, just of the fighters.
They also seemed very rushed to sign their 8x10's, especially since a lot of us were also in-line for the Chael Sonnen Q&A, and they were scheduled for another meet and greet.
I was sixth in line to meet the fighters and Gray Maynard was already getting annoyed of flashbulbs, so he says to me, "Is it okay if I take a photo of you?" The result, we played "dueling cameras"... We had a laugh and shook hands.
Dan Hardy, like Chael Sonnen was also cool to meet. I wore a union jack t-shirt and he caught wind of it. He told me he's looking to fight in October.
Jon Fitch stayed pretty quiet. Though he told me he's excited for his fight with Thiago Alves.
I attended the Chael Sonnen Q&A soon after. You can watch it on UFC's website. It was very entertaining.
The atmosphere was electric for the weigh-in. Several fighters almost didn't make weight, and were forced to weigh-in in the nude. To which Joe Rogan goes, "Okay [Octagon] girls, turn around because they're bringing out the towel". There were a few moments he tried to tease Arianny and Chandella to look, but they didn't fall for it, LOL.
Here are the rest of the pics:
In all a great weekend. The UFC even brought merchandise to the weigh-in! I picked up a UFC 115 program, T-shirt and poster.
