Probably because he's been wrestling for over 20 years and has only had 1 major title. I think the guy deserves a nice 2nd run.
Swagger wasn't really going anywhere fast...for some reason. I like Swag and am glad he's got 1 title reign under him but he's got a LOOOOONG career ahead of him where Rey doesn't.
Besides, the WWE looks at the WHC as the "second rate" title anyway, so it's good for Rey. I really doubt he's going to go on a 3 year run with it. He'll have it for a few months then lose it to whatever heel they want to push...maybe Swag will take it back, who knows?
I wish people, for once, would let a title reign play out and just enjoy it for what it is instead of analyzing every single match win or lose like it matters. I actually think a Rey/Swagger feud could be pretty good.

That's because right now, there's nobody in the Smackdown roster that deserved it. So they just gave it to him because he's the more experienced I must say and more of the crowd favorite. CM Punk deserves it. He's been doing amazing promos lately and Rey is too injury prone. He comes back for a couple of months then has to go into surgery again. |

^ While I do agree that Rey has been very injury prone over the last couple of years, the thing with CM Punk is that he doesn't need the title. Punk is a big part of Smackdown, as is the rest of the SES, and he doesn't need the title to get over. He is a big enough part of the show that his feuds are now important enough to stand on their own.

Does anyone else think that a heel will potentially win MITB and take the belt from Rey? Thus the reason they put the title on Rey? Just my initial thoughts on the situation.
In terms of why Rey was actually made champion at F4W. It coincides with Cena losing the title. Who sells more tshirts than those two guys? Love them or hate them, they equal $$$$. Plus SD only has one top face until they decide they are going to push Christian.
I thought Swagger was doing an awesome job with the belt. I'm tired of WWE being bipolar about guys. Give the guy a chance to succeed long term, he has all the tools. Rey isn't going to help you two years from now when he has to hobble out to the ring. Jack Swagger could be around for the next 10. Its really pretty simply.

Rey deserves it yet he doesn't at the same time. He deserves it because he's put on great matches for awhile. He doesn't because there are guys also on their way out soon that should get a solid title reign(Kane, maybe Christian).

I don't care what anyone says, these are the two worst simultaneous world champions in the history of WWE. I almost left the establishment I was watching Fatal 4 Way at when Rey won that title. I can only hope it is in preparation to make someone a monster heel like Christian or Kane.

I don't care what anyone says, Rey's first title reign was a pure, unadulterated, act of charity. They played off the emotions of fans from a man's death and gave the title to Rey. He didn't deserve it then because he had nothing going on up until that point and it was clear that Eddie's death was the only reason he got the title.
This time around, Rey's been built up as an actual World Title contender for a couple of years, and putting on top notch matches in the process. I actually expected him to have had another reign by now. He certainly deserves it this time around.

These threads have bothered me since the first time he won the title...
He did not win it because Eddie died!!!
I still firmly believe had Eddie lived he would have lost the title to Rey down the line, maybe at Mania.
Why is it so hard to believe that Rey has won the title both times because he is super over and super talented? I don't care about his size, he's one of the most talented guys in the company and more than deserves to be world champion.

I have no problem whatsoever with Mysterio being champion, very richly deserved IMO, he's been putting on stellar matches his entire run with WWE.

He got it because he was supposed to go on Vacation after the Undertaker match and broke his face instead, thus Taker was off T.V. and Rey had to come back to work since they needed a top face. This is his reward for working though the vacation he was promised......

and then eventualy Have

where the miz wins the title and gets his over-due tital reign
