FREE AGENCY RECAP: DAYS 1-3 So far, ladies and gentleman, this has been an exciting three days of free agency. As we enter into the fourth day, 20 superstars have been sign to contracts between the 6 teams. Some teams [Most Wanted/Evolution] have certainly be busy make big deals while others [Blitz/Warriors] have been quiet about things. In this article, I am going to overview each team and give them a free agency grade for the first three days. But folks, this season has just begun! Wait until the real action starts! Either way, let's see what we have here:
Chicago Warriors - Ace Bennett Thus far, the Warriors have been relatively quiet in Ace Bennett's first off-season as captain. Having the captain and former Most Valuable Wrestler, Best of the Best Winner and Wrestler of the Year already locked up, the Warriors were already set for destiny. Ace has added 2 rookies for, surprisingly enough, extremely cheap. Silas McGahey and Connor O'Reily have been signed and these two might actually get a spot in the big time this year. With the free agent pool not as deep as thought out to be, Ace was able to find two rookies who will work for cheap. Also, he added for Chicago Warrior, Zeke, for a nice sized contract. Zeke will be bringing the veteran presence to a team that is lacking such. Either way, a decent start for a new captain who is trying to navigate a team to destiny. Grade: B
Las Vegas Blitz - Trace Demon Well, for someone who actually has had experience as a captain last year, Trace is using an usually technique when it comes to signing free agents. So far, he has only himself, the captain, and Petey Williams locked under contract for the upcoming season. I have no clue if Trace is playing the 'wait-and-see' method or he is really stumped on who to sign. Although, the contract he gave Williams was pretty well deserved and I feel this was an underrated signing so far. Hopefully he can lock up more people like this, he needs to soon! Grade: C
Los Angeles Most Wanted - Red Dragon Time to hear from the camp who brought home the gold last year. So far, Red Dragon has had to make up for loosing his number one worker last year and of course, as listed above, the wrestler of the year in Ace Bennett. I would say he has done a pretty damn good job of filling the gap. He signed the four biggest free agents, in my opinion, to some fat contracts. Evan Pagano, Devin Curtis, Matt Justice and LyNN have all climbed aboard the Most Wanted train and this could be the all-star team. BUT, the big error Dragon has made is that one of these all-stars will be wasting away in the minor leagues has he can only have a maximum of 4 workers in the major leagues at one time. Will this superstar be able to take the news that he will be sitting in the minors or will something happen within the team? Only time will tell... Grade: A-
Boston Brawlers - Duan Sanchez Jr Looking to rebound with a new captain this year, Sanchez Jr and the Boston Brawlers are bringing hope back to Boston with one signing at a time. Sanchez has added some veteran experience with returning Brawler Cameron Stone and outside talent TJ Perkins (Puma). But, he is also taking a gamble by signing two rookies in Cody Rejero and Jordan Devine. Both are at the top of the rookie class this year, but what will happens when it comes down the stretch. Will the lack of big NWL veterans bring this team down or does this team have a Matt Justice on it? Grade: B
New York Crush - Kevin Hart Finally, the last of the three new captains, Kevin Hart, takes on a big responsibility in the New York Crush. After coming SO close to winning the Series Invitational last year, the Crush are looking to improve on an impressive team. Adding big veteran force in Chris Hammers, who is looking to rebound from last year can only help, but Hart, like Sanchez Jr, has taken chances on the rookies this year. AJ Matthews, Jin Yamato, and X Jack all have something to prove and they will get their shot this year with the Crush. Will the Crush be able to repeat this great success from last year with a completely revamped team? Grade: B
Tri-State Evolution - Kevin Shamrock And lastly, the Tri-State Evolution, lead by Kevin Shamrock at the helm once again, will be looking to improve upon last year's season. Another team who took a chance on rookies, the Evolution have added 3 rookies in Sam Kineval, Jack Richardson and Bret Thomas. These three might be the breakout rookies of the season, but will they be coached well enough by the veteran presence of Shamrock and newly re-signed Sean Shafer. The Evolution took a BIG chance on Shafer, who is coming off an injury riddled season, with a big six year contract. The Evolution seems to be relying on Shafer to come up big and we can only wait and see what happens. Grade: B

Los Angeles Most Wanted has an amazingly stacked team. This. They are loaded. I wanted to try and sign Justice, Pagano or LyNN, but they were all taken by the time I started. I just didn't notice it was all on one team.

I'm glad I resigned as captain, I get to watch this from an outsiders POV. Hart, do my team good. Go all the way this year. Coach Bockwinkel will be here.

Glad to see that the Warriors signing class is on par with the majority of the rest. I just wish I would've been able to get a crack at some of the big name free agents before I really got started.

And to think I declined a contract from LA Probably would of been in the minors though. Boston still looks like a good team.

Wow. I'm kinda surprised that Boston had a B grade. I felt they signed some pretty good guys. Anyway, LA is looking like a great team. Hopefully Devin Curtis won't get sent to the minors.

LAMW CAPTAIN HOLDS EMERGENCY PRESS CONFERENCE
Earlier this afternoon, Red Dragon, the reigning captain of the year and current captain of the Los Angeles Most Wanted, informed the NWL.com staff that he will be holding a press conference from his new home in Los Angeles. The LA captain told us that he wanted to set the record straight on a few issues that have been bothering him and his team for the upcoming season. Immediately, everyone thought he was going to announce who is going to the minors, but we were wrong. Here is a transcript of what actually was said this afternoon:
Dragon On The Signing Period "Coming into Season 2 of NWL I had some big plans. I had guys I wanted to sign, I had guys I wanted to let go and guys I wanted to keep. However when Season 2 did come along all my plans changed. The major change was losing my top guy, Ace [Bennett] that was a real shock for me. I’ll be honest and I thought Most Wanted would end up 6th this season after that."
Dragon On The Current Team "Of course the perks of being the winning team is that everyone wants to join. So straight away I sent off a pile load of contracts. It took some time to do but I knew if one of these guys accepted it would be all worth it. I was very lucky that LyNN came straight back and signed that contract. Just after signing him the team instantly became stronger. He showed in Season 1 with Chicago that even single handed he could carry a team. Soon after Matt Justice signed up to the team. He had a spectacular Season with Tri-State picking up Rookie of the Year. With just two signings I had boosted Most Wanted’s chances of winning Season 2 by tenfold. I was extremely lucky with my next two signings. It was my plan from Season 1 come true. Devin Curtis signed for another season with Most Wanted then almost straight after his Evan Pagano signed. Anyone with a knowledge of these two know these guys are great friends and work tremendously well together."
Dragon On 'Hogging The Talent' "Some people have accused me of ‘hogging the talent’ and I must say, I agree. Having just one of these guys on your team would be a massive boost but to have all four is great. I did have even more offers flooding in after these signings. At first I was all for it, the more the better. But after talking with one already signed worker I decided that what I was doing wasn’t right. I had already four amazing top class athletes if I took anymore it would be unfair on the other team captains and my teammates (as they would end up in the minors.) I know a lot of guys are upset, I apologize for everything during the signing period. If I could do it again I would have done it differently. The way I treated some guys was wrong I shouldn’t have offered them contracts then pulled out. I know I’ve said this individually but I want to say this to everyone. I’m truly sorry for what I did and I’m glad everyone found contracts."
Dragon On Team Captains "When I first heard about some of the captains leaving I was shocked. All three guys who left did a great job leading their teams. Assassin and I have wrestled around the world, he’s a great athlete who has been a friend since the old SCW days. Mike (Bockwinkel) was another shocker. I know we had our battles but you can’t argue that he’s a natural born leader. Both captains will be missed and I wish them luck in whatever they go onto do. These new captains got some big shoes to fill, if they have half the leadership skills the former captains do they’ll do well. Ace (Bennett) told me last season that he’s stay with Most Wanted but if a captain’s spot came up, he’d jump on it and I’m glad he did. He’s a great guy both inside and outside of the ring. Of course I’m a little pissed that he left but I wish him good luck. It’s nice to see him with his own team and with Jason (Williams) by his side they’ll do well this season. Kevin (Hart) should do great picking up from Bockwinkel. He shone last season and was on top of my signing list. It didn’t work out for me but his team is looking strong. I’m so happy Duan (Sanchez, Jr) got one of the captain’s spot. Its shows how much of a great guy he is by winning Sportsman of the year. I think his team is the one to look out for, he’d got the balance just right. The experience in one corner (Cameron Stone and TJ Perkins) and two top Rookies to look out for (Jordan Devine and Cody Rejero.)"
Dragon On The Minors Situation "After the drama that was the signing period I am now left with another huge challenge. I have four top guys who all could easily have been announced as captains and I have to send one to the minors. I can’t employ the normal tactic of just sending one athlete down to the minors because none of them deserve to be there. Hopefully my teammates can understand the situation and accept this. I am going to devise a system which is both fair and practical."
Dragon On The Most Wanted's Future "Some may the weakness in my team is that I have 4 experienced top class athletes and no Rookies to ensure the future of Most Wanted. I’m hoping that as the season progresses I can expand Most Wanted into a more versatile team. But at the moment my priority is to build a team to advance to the Series Invitational. It’s a long way away but you always got to keep your mind on it. That’s my plans but as we all know they can easily change."
FREE AGENCY COMES TO AN END - With all the teams having the required talent, the free agency period will be taking a short break. Free Agency is available year round, but for now, rosters for the season will be finalized. Be sure to keep checking NWL.com for more updates!

Or have them walk the plank....

...PRESENTS: NWL LIVE! Los Angeles, CA 06/04/10 - 7:00 PMAttendance: 7,000 (SELL OUT) WELCOME BACK EVERYBODY! We have hit the beginning of the second season after a long wait and tonight, we are back where it ended, Los Angeles, CA! Hello everyone, I'm Jimmy Pietrafesa and let me be the first to say that I am glad to be back. After a long off-season, we are ready to rock and roll again. Without further ado, let's go down to ringside! - Before the show began, a banner was raised inside the Los Angeles arena commemorating their 2009 Series Invitational win last season. Red Dragon was on hand as the banner was raised. vs. Match #1; LyNN [Los Angeles Most Wanted] vs. X Jack [New York Crush]- After 09:23 of action, the first match of the season was fought out, but one of the new editions for Los Angeles, LyNN, picked up where he left off last season for Chicago by defeating X Jack with the Springboard Tornado DDT. The match was a bit one-sided but the crowd surely liked to see Los Angeles take an early win here. - Afterward, the crowd treated LyNN to some cheers and he walked out of the arena with a smile on his face. X Jack was surely disappointed. vs. Match #2; Sean Shafer [Tri-State Evolution] vs. Zeke [Chicago Warriors]- After 12:02 of action, the unique styles of these two youngsters came into play during this match, but it was Sean Shafer who came away with the win after drilling his opponent with the Augustan Heat. Shafer, returning to the Evolution this season, was put through a tough bout, but Zeke was just too short to get the victory here. vs. Match #3; Cody Rejero [Boston Brawlers] vs. Kenny King [Las Vegas Blitz]- After 13:51 of action, in a pretty fast-paced hard hitting style of a match, Kenny King found himself coming up empty after the rookie, Cody Rejero, drilled him with a piledriver. King, who is looking to rebound this year, was pushed to the brink and finally gave in as the impressive Rejero makes a solid debut for Boston tonight. - Intermission - - An announcement about the return of the NWL.com column, NWL Roundup, will be returning in a few shows with a new column written by an outsider of the company, reviewing the doings inside the company. Be sure to check out NWL.com whenever and wherever! vs. Match #4; Jason Williams & Ace Bennett [Chicago Warriors] vs. Kevin Hart & Chris Hammers [New York Crush]- After 19:09 of action, in our first taste of tag team action this year and the first captain match for both Bennett & Hart, Ace Bennett succeeded in drilling the life out of Hammers to gain the win for his team. Both Hammers & Williams took a change of scenery this season to get a fresh start, but it seems that Hammers cannot get out of his funk. Either way, Bennett looked as dominant as ever and Hart was surely pissed afterward. - After the match, Bennett was cheered by the LA crowd and he accepted it wholeheartedly. He then raised Jason Williams' hand and they left to a nice ovation. vs. Match #5; Duan Sanchez Jr. [Boston Brawlers] vs. Trace Demon [Las Vegas Blitz]- After 15:45 of action, Trace Demon took the new Boston captain, Duan Sanchez Jr, to school after nailing him with the Demonstration of Hell. Demon is looking to carry the Blitz to victory this season and this was a good start for him. Duan, on the other hand, seemed off and a bit sluggish. Hopefully he can turn things around in the coming days. - Before our main event, Red Dragon came out to announce that tonight, he is going to make his team proud and shut up his opponent, Kevin Shamrock, who seemingly won't stop running his mouth, lashing out against Dragon. The crowd gave Dragon a standing ovation before his opponent came out. vs. Match #6; Kevin Shamrock [Tri-State Evolution] vs. Red Dragon [Los Angeles Most Wanted]- After 21:06 of action, this main event turned pretty ugly, but the fans were sent home happy after Red Dragon delivered Shamrock the Red Dragon Driver for the abrupt victory. These guys were stiff as ever in the ring and I think, at some points, they were for real in there. Either way, Dragon emerged victorious for his team and gained a big first win of the season. - We return back in the sunny state on the 27th of this month and see our great fans in New York tomorrow! Drive safe everyone!
