I have noticed lately since MMA has become popular many "normal" men like to think they are MMA fighters. You know the guys really loud wearing their Affliction shirts, mean mugging every guy that walks by like that guy just banged his sister. I am not talking about fans that respect what we do for a living. And buy merchandise to support the sport they love and the fighters they love. Because I appreciate those people, and love them.
The reason why I write this, is because of something that happened to me Friday night. Here is the story and difference between real MMA fighter's and MMA posers. I got a call around 10 on Friday night from some friends (some you people know so I will change their names to Karl, Dave, Steve) saying my friend Steve is DJ'ing a club by my house. And asked if I wanted to come meet up with them. I told them sure. I will be their in 20 minutes. I finished BBQ'ing the steaks I was making. Told my girlfriend I will be back in an hour or so. I kissed my son goodnight and told him I loved him.
I arrived to this club and it was packed. Which was cool because more people would get to know my friend Steve. I go in find my friend's and ask what they are drinking. I bought them their shots and one for myself (1st of the night) listened to some music and BS'ed with my buddies. Had 1 more shot and was getting ready to leave. My friend Steve said he wanted to go up and mix a little more onstage and told me to follow him. I do. Then I hear a girl say "what the " she tell's her guy friend "that guy just grabbed my ass" refering to my friend Steve. I know this is not true because I was following him and he was a good 3 feet over from her. Her friends then get mad (wearing their Affliction shirts that are 2 sizes to small) and get in Steve's face. Karl, and Me were standing their. I told the guy that was mad "I know it wasn't him I was following him. It was probably someone else. Their is just a mixup brother." He says "OK" tells the girl that it was a mixup and is smiling and happy. He then tells Karl and I that "if anyone does that poop again he is going to ing kill them. I am a UFC fighter" (which was funny considering my friend Dave who is a UFC fighter was outside talking with some other friends and I am a pro MMA fighter as well) I then told him "their is no need to talk like that bro, we are all here having fun. It's all cool man. I am sorry for the confusion." He smiles and say's "OK" I then turn to find my friend Steve and BANG!!!!! I am about 3 feet from where I was wondering what the just happened. I looked down and saw blood. And everyone freaking out. I then realized he sucker punched me right in the face when I wasn't even looking. I went and got my Fadora hat. And told him "you hit like a bitch bro."
I then went outside where Dave was and said (while looking down) "I'm gonna call it an early night my friend. I will see you next time." He got up to give me a hug and saw my face and said "dude what the happened." I told him briefly. And he said "you want to go back in their and deal with him?" And told him no it wasn't worth it for us to go to jail for the prick. Dave's girlfriend was freaking out looking at my face so I knew it was pretty bad and she said "how are you so calm?" Dave told her that's what we do.
I got in my car looked in the rear view and saw it looked pretty knarly so I called my girl so she wouldn't freak out when I got home looking like that. Got home noticed I had a busted nose and a fat ass lip. Oh well. I just wish I had my mouthguard in because my teeth cut my lip up.
Now, I noticed that people in clubs/public places have been acting like this for awhile now. And am wondering why? Because no fighter with any MMA training at all would fight outside of cage/ring/training. And they really wouldn't sucker punch someone who wasn't even looking, and if I did, my trainers would not only break me the next day, they woud then tell me they want nothing to do with me anymore. I look a my face on this 4th of July and am still wondering "what the did I do to deserve a sucker punch to the face?" Why are people acting like this? I know I could have walked back and beat him down but it wasn't worth all the things I have done and am doing to throw it all away for a piece of poop, like that.
The 1st thing you learn in training is self discipline, so MMA posers please learn that first. Putting on a Affliction shirt, and watching the UFC and learning the names of a few moves does not make you an MMA fighter.
And to the guy who sucker punched me. Karma is a bitch, nextime you try poop like that with someone they may not have the same amount of restraint as I do.
