I'm pretty sure Lesnar shut up most to all critics last night. He got rocked and still was able to come back and win with a freakin' arm-triangle choke of all things. I see Lesnar beating Velasquez, but I'm more excited to see Junior Dos Santos or Roy Nelson against Lesnar.
Anyways, to keep this going, has there ever been anyone else you've doubted at one point, but they turned right around and impressed you?
Mine is defenately Chris Leben. I've seen a few of his fights and was never a fan, but last night changed that completely. I am now 100 percent a fan of Chris Leben and hope to see him and Wanderlai tear the house down soon.

First of all, he won't ever shut me up. He still has a load to work on, but he showed great heart and great recovery after the beating he took in the first round. I think he did a great job, but that doesn't change the fact that he still has major flaws in his game, one being his sloppy stand-up. I think Velasquez will be a completely different test for Lesnar. Cain is a very compact Heavyweight, extremely good on the feet, a GREAT wrestler, great speed and GREAT cardio. I think Cain needs to train escapes off his back for this Lesnar fight and he also needs to keep his weight intact so he doesn't loose any of his speed and cardio.

For the longest ing time, and anyone that knows me around the boards can testify to this, I utterly LOATHED the Diaz brothers. Couldn't ing stand them at all. While I think Nate still has plenty to work on, I think Nick is honestly one of the best Welters in the world right now. His style is just so unorthodox and yet so fun to watch. The guy may not have raw knockout power, but he lands so many times that it's impossible not to get hurt. To be perfectly honest, he's one of the only MMA fighters I know where the "punches in bunches" style actually works out for him.

Though there are plenty I could use, my criticisms of Lesnar aren't in the octagon. I personally just think he's a bit of a prick.

yeah brock's definitely a prick, but he can back it up. i'm really hoping for a big push to the main event for leben if he keeps it up, at least a fight for wandi. i also really wanna see dos santos vs lesnar, big country vs brock would be a good fight too. we can expect some good fights i think.

How would Nelson and Lesnar be a good fight?

I used to hate on Machida pretty damn hard..
..a lot of that came from his fight with Tito..I was(and still am) a big Tito fan. So when I saw Tito lose to Machida it pissed me off knowing (at the time) that was going to be Tito's last fight in the UFC. But he really impressed the sh** out of me with his wins over Rashad and Thiago. And his first fight with Shogun remains one of the most technically beautiful fights I have ever seen and is one of my favorite fights of all time.

How would Nelson and Lesnar be a good fight? depends on what you consider a "good fight". to me, i find it entertaining to see two big dudes like brock and big country go at it.

Nelson and Lesnar would be a good slug best, with Lesnar trying to take Nelson down, with Nelson having good takedown defense.

I give credit to Lesnar surviving the first round, also to Josh, great officiating. At one point, I thought it's all over but you could see Lesnar still moving, trying to cover up. Once Lesnar put Carwin in the 2nd round, I knew it wall all gonna be over.

I definitely get that he can "back it up" but he's only six fights into his career. A lot of people are 5-1 six fights into their professional career. So fighting Mir twice, Carwin and Couture is an easy feat for you? Yeah first MMA fight against Min Soo Kim wasn't a challenge but fighting MIR in his first UFC debut fight isn't something to take lightly. Nevermind the fact that he IMO would have beaten Mir if it weren't for the lack of experience and eagerness. The second time around it was a whole different story if you watched the fight, Brock controlled him and beat him up and never gave Mir a chance except for the knee that Brock said "saw tweety birds for a second or two" Fight against Heath Herring is funny because people thought it was a easy fight but it's the only fight that's gone to decision for Brock so far so you decide. Couture, I don't care if you say Couture was done by then or not, it's sure as hell not easy to go for a title fight in just 3 MMA fights and I give him credit for finishing the fight. And just now beating Carwin with a submission. It shows that he's evolving as a fighter. I'm not saying he's a submission artist but at least he knows how to pull off the right submission when he can. I think I and the rest of the MMA fans in the world thought Brock would go GnP but he proved everyone. It was shocking for sure. I'm not a Brock fan boy. He still has A LOT to work on with his stand up game but with his physical stature combined with his wrestling background and his first submission victory against Carwin, you can't count him out and say he doesn't deserve the title. IMO he's the #1 heavyweight RIGHT NOW (Fedor all time) because I just don't believe anyone can take out Lesnar with ease unless you KO him which Brock proved it isn't easy to do so.

Probably Chris Leben and now, Brock Lesnar, although I'll concede (like others here) that Brock still has alot to improve upon as the UFC Heavyweight champion.
Still on the fence about Dan Hardy though, doesn't really impress me that much, truth be told.

Hitman and Red Devil:
I completely agree with the two of you about the level of competition Brock has faced so far exceeding most fighter's first six fights. But. His first fight was an easy win. He lost his second fight to Mir. Herring is good, but he's not amazing, and he took Brock to a decision. I love Couture to death--he's one of, if not my favorite fighter--but he's getting old, and at this point in his career he can lose to anyone. He can still beat anyone, but if he's off, he's off. Beating Couture now, and beating him 5-9 years ago isn't the same thing. I'll give Brock the last two wins--impressive. He took one hell of a beating in his last fight, though some might argue that the fight should have stopped there.
In any case, Brock's resume is impressive, but he was shot up to the top very quickly. I am not saying he cannot hang with the guys where he's at, because he has, but he's there because of his name. If any no name beat Kim, lost to Mir, then went to a decision with Herring, they wouldn't have gotten a title fight with Couture. I know that. Brock is good. He's just not proven that he's great yet.

I like Lesnar and think that if he continues to work hard he can be the top heavyweight now if not of all time. (IF he develops a better standup and submission game)
As far as guys that suprised me, I would have to go with Nick Diaz. When looking at him when I saw him for the first time on Strikeforce before his fight against Marius Zomariskis, I viewed him as sort of a scrub from UFC (especially the way the night portrays him with his pot habit and all). But man that dude is so accurate and goes for blood every time he fights. I haven't had a chance to see much of his brother cause I'm not the biggest MMA guru but how do the two compare?
