Exclusive: Bisping Faces Akiyama at UFC 120 FightersOnly Staff @ FightersOnlyMagazine.co.uk, 7/9/2010
Top British middleweight Michael Bisping’s next opponent will be Japanese judo stylist Yoshihiro Akiyama, Fighters Only learned this morning from a UK source. The fight will headline UFC 120 in October.
Bout agreements have been drawn up and at least one has been completed and signed, with the second expected to be completed in the very near future to make the bout official.
Bisping is coming off a unanimous decision win over Dan Miller at UFC 114, which followed a unanimous decision loss to Wanderlei Silva at UFC 110. He is 2-2 in his last four UFC outings.
Akiyama is coming off a surprise loss to Chris Leben at UFC 116 this past weekend. He had been due to fight Wanderlei Silva but the Brazilian pulled out because of knee and rib injuries sustained in training.
Akiyama’s loss to Leben puts him 1-1 in the UFC and means he will very likely be fighting for his contract on October 16th. Other fights rumoured for the card include Dan Hardy vs. Carlos Condit and Cheick Kongo vs. Travis Browne.
Nice. This card seems to be shaping up well too.
Middleweight bout: Michael Bisping vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama Welterweight bout: Carlos Condit vs. Dan Hardy Welterweight bout: John Hathaway vs. Dong Hyun Kim Heavyweight bout: Travis Browne vs. Cheick Kongo Lightweight bout: Spencer Fisher vs. Kurt Warburton Light Heavyweight bout: Cyrille Diabate vs. Alexander Gustafsson Heavyweight bout: Rob Broughton vs. Vinicius Quieroz Lightweight bout: Paul Sass vs. TBA

I'm just kind of surprised Bisping and Akiyama are headling a show on their own. It's nothing against them and personally I'm pretty excited to see both men fighting again, but seems more like a co-main event.

It's a Spike TV card and it's going to be in London. No surprise since Bisping is a huge star in the UK.

I'm really excited for tickets to go on sale because I will literally be going all out and getting the most expensive seats there are. My early predictions are Bisping, Hardy, Hathaway, Browne, Fisher, Diabate and Broughton.

Ohhhhh, ok. Well then that's a hell of a card for a free show then! lol
I figured it must have been in the UK, but didn't realize it was free with names like Bisping, Akiyama, Hardy, Kongo all on the card. Pretty damn cool.

Headlining? :/ Is this the first time a man coming off a loss has headlined an event, minus Chuck Liddell?
It's weird, UFC has 119 and 120 with no title fight.

....it's going to be in London. No surprise since Bisping is a huge star in the UK. Don't believe everything Dana White tells you..... The majority of knowledgeable MMA fans over here see Bisping for the dancing pile of crap that he is. Dana just needed a posterboy for the UK to help push the UFC brand and Bisping was in the right place at the right time. Personally I would rather watch a Paul Taylor fight any day of the week. That guy has heart, and wins fight of the night pretty much every time he steps into the octagon!

Well, I'm not really taking things from Dana. There were plenty of celebrity polls that I heard about where Bisping got a pretty high rating out of any sports star.

It looks like a really wicked card but it looks like they would not be a main event!

He was voted coolest man in Britain by Zoo magazine, which is pretty much like being a winner in the special olympics.... Besides that I know of nothing that he has won, besides boring fights

He also won "Fighter of the Year" ahead of Ricky Hatton.
