Jakks guy here. Considered buying Mattel but decided to wait a few series to see if it got any better. Head scans still look cartoony and when the skin tones are off they are way off.
Looking at everything Mattels ever made it always has sucked really. They made the Intellivision. It sucked and subsequently bombed.

Mattel, their style is more realistic when it comes to molds and physiques without looking all roided up to high heaven.

Love 'em both. But, Mattel has simply made better, more accurate figures in every way. More specified molds(Bourne, JTG, etc), FULLY detailed attires/tattoos(back painted and everything), more realistic torsos/arms, in scale with one another, arguably better articulation(swiveling boots, different wrist joint[allows moving the joint without "breaking" wrist tape/bands]).
That is just my take. I still have and love my Jakks collection. But, I can't see how Mattel isn't above them in quality. Though, some head scans still need work and I'm getting quite anxious to see their belts and more accessories. For 7 months in, they have done GREAT.

JAKKS for sure. But this is for the CS line. Now that we are getting RA style TNA figures, I will get some of those as well. And I am looking forward to JAKKS Legends line.
I have been picking up some of the Mattel Basics here and there. Not really all that excited about them. Just like the JAKKS DA figures, I am not a fan of Mattel Elite figures at all.

on a Jakks forum, who do you think would win in this poll?
In 7 short months Mattel has blown the myth that wrestling figures can't be in-scale, wrestlers can't have accurate body-types, and wrestlers can't have completely painted details right down to the tattoos!!!
Jakks has fooled collectors for so long, it's nice to see Mattel proving that these things CAN be done.
Do you Jakks guys really love that RA Rey Rey can stand eye-to-eye with RA Undertaker? Do you love that a wrestler's tights are painted in the front and not the back? Do you really love the snow boots?

As someone who has a LOT of Jakks figures I have to say that I've been turned to Mattel. I only have 14 Elites, but every Elite I have blows its Jakks counterpart out of the water. I didn't think that the attention to scale, additional articulation or minor details/specific parts would matter so much but they really do. Its really nice not having to buy multiple figures to put together to make one that is semi accurate.
I only wish that there weren't so many big names signed with TNA so we could get some bigger names for the Legends line. But when they leave or TNA tanks, all will be good.

Jakks, yes we have scale issues but I was never bothered about scale as a kid when I collected Galoob and hasbro.
I like mattels but have a far too big jakks collection o just start again.

Mattel wins. I will say though that the Elite ankles are loose, and the Elite legs are tight. But Jakks was always bad with the scale and they gave us pretty much just random accesories. I have over 3 dozen chairs right now, yet only 2 tables. Those things are like gold.

Funny you mentioned Hasbros and Galoobs, both of which I also collected when I was a kid and handled scale issues better than Jakks. Galoob Anderson, Flair, Pillman were defenitely shorter than Sid Vicious, and while the Hasbros were cartoony, enough attention was paid to scale and body types. And Galoob & Hasbro did that a decade before Jakks.

I only collect Jakks. From there wrestling line to the UFC. Even tho I'm going to be cutting down on my RA like just to make room for some of the TNA figures. Like Sting....

I voted I collect both.
I have a pretty big Jakks collection. Not as big as some on this site. and I have a smaller Mattel Colletion (10 figures to be exact)
I started collecting Jakks when I was 12 or 13 and actually played with them some. Soon I felt as though I had out grown Playing with them and started just displaying them and on occasion having a match here or there. The switch from BCA to TTL kinda pissed me off due to the complete incompatibility of the body styles, so I stopped for a little and a buddy gave me a TTL Taker which kinda got me started again. Then R3 hit which I started again also pissed me off. Then RA hit and was somewhat compatable with TTL and I had learned the art of fix ups makeing a few R3's in to RA. Then the classics series came out and I loved it. the DA came and killed it for me. I joined the military and mostly stopped collecting in 2006 picking up a figure here and there. Then Mattel came out and I have picked up a few figs and love the detail and scale and I like a lot of the head scans better. But feel their joints are to tight in spots and to loose in others
I have decided that for someone like me who just displays loose I feel Mattel is better.
For Someone that plays I think Jakks has the better product.
And now that Jakks has the TNA line I my continue with the regular impact and legends figures and have some nice combo displays like AJ facing off with Orton or something. Sting and HHH etc.

I'm collecting both for Mattel's WWE and Jakks' TNA(Occasionally a UFC guy).
I think Mattel has given out all-around quality figures more-so than Jakks did, maybe just because they're still not in the "Until a new guy gets here, re-paint of Cena" mode, but when Jakks is great, they are great. I prefer the Jakks style of figure, but Mattel is nice as well because they almost always have Scales and amazing detail to the figures.
If I had to choose one company to make all the Wrestling Figures, it would be Mattel based on just the sheer quality they pump out, but I still enjoy both.

Voted for Jakks as I mostly collect the classic stars. However, looking at Legends Line 2, I may consider changing sides.

frankly mattel dosent thrill me at all but to each there own... after all the gaga about great detail we see things like the back of steamboats jacket being blank... should say "The Dragon".
we have heard about realistic scale yet triple h and batista are the same exact molds not counting the head and the boots...
or the dolf ziggler having the same exact boot mold as batista or john cena having the same torso and armsa as batista and triple h...
also we heard things like "oh the other 99 percent of the wrestling world has thrown jakks in the trash and jumped to the far more impressive mattel."
that was the last urban legend that has now been proven wrong..i been saying right along that realisticly both companys have there problems... and that its highly likely that
the collecting world is half jakks half mattel but some chose to be blind to that fact.
jakks and mattel fans i think can agree on maybe one thing...it great to have the freedom of choice...if mattel is your cup of tea more power to you... for me i am jakks...
i am happy with the RA scale, love any concept of a legends line from jakks and if jakks does not do something id prefer there figures are very easy to mix, match and customize...
but thats just my 2 cents...lol

I'm totally a Jakks man. With the exception of Undertaker's figs the Mattel figures suck IMO.
The argument of Mattel's body's being more in scale with normal people is pretty silly, when you take into consideration that pro wrestlers are not normal people.
I picked up a Steamboat figure for the head and accessories, and I will continue to do the same for other figures that are not released by jakks.
