On tuesday my laptop got a virus (some malware doctor thing can't remember the name) so i used a step to step guide on the internet to get rid of it, did a full scan, took about 2hours, thought it'd be fine, so 1st thing i did was check the internet, which didnt work at all and still doesnt work, and now earlier today, my windows live messenger stop working saying that its not connected to the internet, when it obviously is.
does anyone know how to fix it

Right this happened to my laptop and it's pretty serious, the doctor spyware programme that keeps telling you about viruses is FAKE and it won't stop, there is no way to get rid of it unless you back up any data from that user area to the admin account and then using the admin account you have to delete, completely remove the user area that is infected.
If it is the admin account that is effected and it is the only one that has admin powers then your kind of screwed, there is a very long process to go through using safe mode to create a new account with admin powers but it is very tricky and takes a very long time.
Hope this helps, and hope you can get it sorted, search on google there is loads of walk though guides on there to fix it but remember it takes a long time, you need to get rid of the spyware that keeps telling you it's found 2,000 or whatever ridiculous number of viruses on your computer because it's fake and that is just a distraction screen while it try's to find personal data.
SEARCH ON GOOGLE MY FRIEND!!!

SEARCH ON GOOGLE MY FRIEND!!! Completely useless advice. You can remove a virus like this in under an hour, two tops. In any case, your problem is in the configuration for Internet Explorer. Go to Tools >> Internet Options. Then go to the connection tab. Go to LAN Settings and uncheck any options for a proxy server. Yes. I really am that awesome and amazing.
