Started repainting some of my old beat up jakks figures and swapping heads to make guys as they would have appeared during the BCA time frame. Love the way these guys came out. Additionally, the Mattel belts look great on these. those came out amazing, love the Nash and Sting! Hall and Goldberg look great too, is that a sting head or who did you use for him? Ya it’s actually the WCW Sting head from like 97 or 98. I always loved those WCW figures and that one fit fairly well. I like to make these guys how I would have had to in the late 90s, bc back then I was painting them also lol.

Wish I would have thought about Syxx first. Gonna start Hogan tonight. The nice thing about BCAs is that since Jakks was super simplistic back then, I can do one or two night customs and be happy with the results.

For lack of a better head choice ( I mean the head scratching BCA style, where you can't figure out what or who they're supposed to be LOL) I decided to use the R3 heads. Id like to replace them eventually so they don't look as out of place compared to other faces. A few more customs and I think Ill be done. Maybe Ill display them like some of you guys have.

I think DDP is a must, Jericho I just need to finish repainting (made him in 99, poorly I may add, Tazz also), Big show would be good but the body work would be incredibly tiring Id think. Mideon and Raven are excellent recommendations, as are the Radicalz. I think Mysterio, DDP, & Flair will be my next ones.

I have always wanted to do custom bca.figures but I know they would not turn out. Customizing BCAs is a challenge. I think its easier to paint a Mattel Elite or a Classic Superstars Jakks figure than it is to do a BCA. Something about the paint doesn't go on as evenly with the rubber legs and arms... Maybe I was just doing it wrong though because I've seen some amazing customs in this thread

Credit: Zack Ryder's Instagram Stories. The passing of Brian Christopher/Brian Lawler yesterday is definitely felt by those of us who collected his figures during the prime of his WWF career. Much like the man himself, there were qualities about Brian's BCA figures which made them stand out in a positive light despite their flaws. The ring attires (neon orange/black and neon green/black with polka dots) were two of the most vibrant Jakks could have selected from those worn by Brian in late 1997. Never will you see a more "Jakked" light heavyweight figure than his, though. There were three times in late 1998/early 1999 when Brian's figures were released to stores as part of the BCA figure line. Here is a quick recap of those figures: 2 Tuff Series 2 2-Pack (Released October 1998) - Brian's debut BCA figure alongside the first and last repaint of Superstars Series 4 Jerry "The King" Lawler Credit: eBay seller northmoorking.Best of '98 Series 1 (Toys"R"Us Exclusive) (Released November 1998) - A repaint of 2 Tuff Series 2 Brian using the exact same parts as the previous figure Credit: eBay seller 21lisad2012.Grudge Match Series 2-Pack (Released January 1999) - A re-release of the previous singles figure (Taka is a Slammers Series 2 re-release) Credit: eBay seller mamas_hall_closet4.

I've been poring over my collection the past few days and I can't believe that I never noticed the obvious differences between these two HBK figures. Superstars Series 2 (on the left) vs. Best of '97 Series 2 (on the right) Superstars Series 2 has a more display-friendly wide stance, but the joints also happen to be weak (early BCA QC is the pits). Paint apps aren't as crisp as you would think, and the colors are not as accurate as they should be either. It wasn't until I compared the two did I realize just how much I prefer the figure on the right. From the consistent flesh-colored skin tone to the accurately-colored matching red gloves and tights, Jakks made subtle improvements in Best of '97 Series 2 which I think set the stage for the great repaints that were yet to come (white, DX red).

I never knew there was a difference in these 2 either. Now I’m gonna have to track down a Best of ‘97 Shawn.

Shawn with the matching color red ring attire and gloves can also be found in the exclusive Superstars 2-Pack with Vader. From left to right: Superstars Series 2 ---> Superstars 2-Pack Exclusive ---> Best of '97 Series 2 As you can see in the photo above, 2-Pack Shawn (in the middle) shares characteristics of both figures. The stance is still wide like Superstars Series 2 (on the left), but the colors have been corrected like in Best of '97 Series 2 (on the right). I didn't think to check for this figure until last night as I had it stored in another tote. It's very interesting to see how the 2-Pack Shawn effectively closes the gap between the first attempt and the last attempt at this particular look. While none are the perfect capture of '95-'96 HBK, I think Best of '97 Series 2 is close to becoming a new favorite of mine (mainly for its tighter joints, even colors, and because it's the only one of the three with the foot hole added to the bottom of the left foot so it can be displayed properly).

I was reading through some of those old “rumored” lineup sites. Man I hate reading them because, even though I know most of it is bunk, it still got my imagination going.
I noticed PMS was on the set for 2Tuff series 5. If that were even to come to fruition, made me wonder what the set would have been. Maybe Terri and Jackie, Jackie and Ryan Shamrock....Meat and Terri? Lol. We will never know.
