Yep, thought I'd ask this, if anyone knew of any controvertal decisions made about WM ME, like what they were supposed to be, what people wanted them to be, like for example WM15 was supposed to be Austin/Rock/Mankind, so yea, anyone have any of these, like for WM17, I mean can't see anything else better than Rock/Austin, but yea, was there gonna be another ME before Austin came back?

Let's seeeee...
Wrestlemania IV was supposed to have the Savage vs. Steamboat rematch in the tournament, but it didn't transpire. I don't remember exactly WHY it didn't happen, but I remember hearing Steamboat didn't like working with Savage. Savage needed every spot preplanned while Steamboat would rather work on the fly.
Wrestlemania VIII was rumored to be Hogan vs. Flair for the Championship. I don't know if it was ever penciled in or if it was just a strong rumor.
Wrestlemania IX was supposed to be Hulk Hogan dropping the belt to Bret Hart, but he wouldn't put Bret over, and ended up leaving the night with the WWF Championship anyway.
Wrestlemania XIII was supposed to be Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels in a rematch of XII, but Shawn was "injured" (depending on whether you believe him or not) and the match was changed. I BELIEVE, if that happened, they would have had Austin win the Championship at Final Four and defend against the Undertaker...but Austin got injured mid-match of Final Four and they changed the finish on the spot.
Wrestlemania XIV was going to be Bret Hart putting Steve Austin over for the WWE Championship, but craphappens, and Bret was gone 5 months before the PPV.
Wrestlemania XVII was rumored to have Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H but Shawn kept showing up in no condition to wrestle, being all pilled out, had a falling out, and 'Taker was thrown in place.
Wrestlemania XVIII was going to be Mr. Perfect vs. Kurt Angle, but Perfect was taken off the card after an incident. Airplane incident? I forget so much these days. I want to say Austin was supposed to take on Nash instead of Hall, but I'm not sure about that one.
Wrestlemania XXIII was supposed to be John Cena vs. Triple H in a rematch, but Triple H got injured in January, and Shawn filled in.

I may be way off here, but wasn't there a rumor that a heel Sgt Slaughter had to be removed from a WM card because of fear he would be assassinated?

Thanks man, I've heard of quite a few of them, but Michaels/Trips at WMX7, that would have been cool, even if he was just to be a ref, that would still have been quite awesome, and thinking about WM13, if it had been Bret/Michaels, then what would have Austin did? Just a thought you know, if that hadn't of happened, then Autsin may have never gotten that big push

I heard that it may have also had something to do with Dragons wife was either preg or had given birth. Dragon requested time off to spend time with his new family, vince didnt understand why he needed this time off (lol). Steamboat was 100% certain he was going to take time off, and being dropped was Vince's answer to it. Thats what i heard anyway. Also, its not quite what you asked for but the words Wrestlemania and Controversial forced me to think of.. WM + Tyson. Very risky move of introducing tyson 3 years after being released from prison for sexual assault. Obviously it worked out, but wow.

Appearently that was an inside joke. I heard Bret Hart explain it somewhere. Tickets weren't selling and the arena was going to be 3/4 empty since they had expected over 100,000 fans. An inside term for an empty arena in wrestling is a "bomb scare" so Vince changed venues and stated in a press release that the venue had to be changed due to a "bomb scare".

I still believe it's more likely true than not, but I'm still not entirely sold that Michaels backed out of WM13 solely because he was told he would have to "return the favor" to Bret. I don't think Vince knew he was going down that road by the time Michaels walked away. While Shawn probably saw the writing on the wall that Bret was about the only one he could work with (Undertaker was a face and they were kept away from each other, he just worked the last two main PPVs with Sid, Austin wasn't really ready, and Vader likely wouldn't work as a main event)... I think there was more than just not wanting to job to Bret. Again - I think it probably played a part, but have we ever heard anything from a decent source about this? I feel like it's just a rumor that's been around so long that it's now considered gospel.
Never heard about HBK/HHH - any source there?

Its one of many things i asked Bret when i was lucky enough to have the chance to speak to him,he said that was the case,i am sure he has been quoted on it several times in interviews aswell. I think even though Bret had beaten HBK dozens of times over the years, i feel that not getting his rematch against HBK really damaged his career. I tell you what,i know the match kept getting pushed back till survivor series when Bret was leaving, but it would have been awesome to see they two headline loads more PPVs in the WWF.

According to HBK (shoot int. around 2000) Bret was going to be jobbing to him again. Michaels said that Vince wanted him to go over Bret again since Bret had so many wins over HBK on video/PPVs. I honestly don't know what to believe when it comes to those guys. It has become obvious that their personal animosity was alive long before Montreal, perhaps as early as 1990. Whenever one says something about the other, I always take it with the proverbial grain of salt.

I mean, look at the finish of Savage/DiBiase at WM IV as a starting point. Oh, well. I also wished that the Intercontinental title still meant a lot. I was watching Summerslam '91 yesterday and watching Mr. Perfect's promo about how important the Intercontinental Championship was to him was a bit of a downer. It just doesn't seem to matter as much these days.
