I believe he was the longest serving Republican in the Senate. His plane crashed last night and he was just confirmed dead.
He helped Alaska become a state and then ran for Senate in Alaska and won many elections, but he lost his seat in 2008.
I may disagree with his politics or his statements (Internet being a series of tubes and the bridge to nowhere) but still pretty shocking.

man this just makes me scared to go on planes even more..I've been on about 4 flights this summer and was shit-scared out of my brain..
