I really like the way you have been able incorproate the Ministry, Corporation, and Austin all into the main event feud over the title and control of the company. The Backlash card looks great. I think its ironic that Mankind is giving Socko to the Rock in the PPV poster, but they are the tag champs at the event haha.

WWF @ Grand Rapids, MI - Van Andel Arena - April 18, 1999 At the top of the show, a video package plays, highlighting the events that took place on RAW is WAR. The Undertaker sent a message to Shane McMahon at the top of the show, telling him and his father Stephanie McMahon would be sacrificed later on in the show. The video cuts to clips of the Ministry laying out members of the Corporation backstage, ensuring that nobody would interfere with the sacrifice would not take place. The McMahons were scrambling to find a way to stop them as Triple H was powerbombed through the announce table by Bradshaw. At the end of the broadcast, the Ministry had Stephanie tied to the Undertaker’s symbol, preparing to sacrifice her. The Big Show made the save, but he only delayed the process, as the members of the Ministry were able to take him down with the four-on-one advantage. Before Undertaker could finish the ceremony, Stone Cold Steve Austin assaulted the Undertaker! The Big Show joined Austin as the two unlikely allies were able to fight off the Ministry. Suddenly, the WWF Champion dropped Show with the Stunner! The video ended with Austin standing tall, getting revenge on both the Ministry and Paul Wight.
Following the HeAT signature intro, Michael Cole and Jim Cornette welcome us to another edition of Sunday Night HeAT, live from Grand Rapids, Missouri! They remind us we are only seven nights away from Backlash, where Stone Cold Steve Austin defends the WWF Championship against the Big Show and the Undertaker in a triple threat match! As for the in-ring action tonight, Andrew Martin will go one-on-one with Corporation member the Big Boss Man; the Light Heavyweight Open continues as Super Crazy and TAKA Michinoku battle in the Semifinals; Jacqueline faces Tori, the women who prevented her from stealing the Women’s Championship at WrestleMania; and in our main event WWF Tag Team Champion the Rock and Sean Waltman will square off!
A blue light haunts the Van Andel Arena as the theme song of the Ministry of Darkness hits. The Undertaker and Paul Bearer making their way out first, leading the Jackyl, Al Snow, Rikishi Phatu, and the Acolytes out to the ring. As they march down to the ring, Cole and Cornette remind us Snow, the Acolytes, and Undertaker all have the chance to regain the titles they lost at WrestleMania next Sunday at Backlash. Once they finally enter the ring, Paul Bearer holds the microphone up for the Undertaker, who tells McMahon he got lucky last Monday on RAW that Paul Wight and Stone Cold Steve Austin decided to get involved in their business. Undertaker says the Ministry of Darkness proved Monday on RAW that the Corporation where no match for them, and in due time he would seize control of the World Wrestling Federation, ushering a plague and eternal damnation upon every superstar in the process! Undertaker says the first step comes next Sunday at Backlash when he defeats Stone Cold and the Big Show to regain the WWF Championship. “After that, I’m coming after you, McMahon. You have nothing in your arsenal that can stop me and the Ministry of Darkness. In due time you will know my name is ‘The Lord of Darkness!’” He says McMahon will have to pay, but he is not the only one. He says both the Big Show and Stone Cold Steve Austin will have to pay for what they did on Monday night. He vows it will all start with Austin, tomorrow night on RAW. “Austin, I promised to finish you at WrestleMania. Luckily for you, McMahon prevented that. Tomorrow night there will be nobody to save you. There will be nobody to save the WWF from the Ministry!” He promises tomorrow night, on RAW is WAR, the Ministry of Darkness will sacrifice Stone Cold! Paul Bearer laughs as the Ministry begin to head out of the ring. The Undertaker has promised Stone Cold Steve Austin will be sacrificed on RAW is WAR, what’s going to happen with only six days left to Backlash?

A video package plays to hype the upcoming triple threat match at Backlash for the WWF Championship between Stone Cold Steve Austin, the Big Show, and the Undertaker. It begins with Stone Cold defeating the Undertaker to regain the championship at WrestleMania, and ‘Taker attacking Vince with the Chokeslam. The rest of the video is spent highlighting the interactions between all three men in the past two weeks, which includes the many brawls between Wight and Austin, the Ministry hanging Stone Cold, and Stone Cold and the Big Show saving Stephanie McMahon from the Ministry, only for Austin to drop the challenger with the Stunner. The inaugural edition of Backlash comes to you live on pay-per-view, April 25th!
The Undertaker’s promise to sacrifice Stone Cold on RAW is WAR tomorrow is replayed, as Michael Cole urges us to tune into RAW tomorrow night to see what will go down.
Andrew Martin def. The Big Boss Man(w/Steven Regal): Andrew Martin recently joined the fight against the Corporation, after Steven Regal cost him a shot at the Intercontinental Championship back at WrestleMania. Tonight Regal looked to cost him another match, but Martin ducked a shot from the brass knuckles, causing him to hit Boss Man instead! Martin took Regal off the apron before hitting Boss Man with a big boot to grab the win.
The fans cheered as Andrew Martin celebrated his win, “Test” picking up another win with his new attitude. Suddenly, Steven Regal hit the ring again, attacking Martin from behind. Boss Man got up and joined Regal in clobbering Martin. As the Corporate Team had him down, Owen Hart rushed out to the ring with a chair, driving them off! Hart called them back into the ring, but they refused. They opted to leave the ringside area instead, leaving just Hart and Martin in the ring. The two shook hands, showing they are on the same page for next Sunday when they team up with “The Big Red Machine” Kane to battle the Corporation.
Break
Backstage Steven Regal and the Big Boss Man were met by Shane McMahon, who asked them what the hell just happened out there. They looked confused, and Shane told them he wanted an explanation as to why they just walked away from Owen Hart and Andrew Martin when they had a chance to take them out before Backlash. Boss Man said they already did a number on Andrew Martin, and they didn’t want to waste their time on Owen! Shane said they were only wasting his time, and he told them they needed to do the job he’s paying them to do. Regal assured Shane they will take care of Owen too, so Shane booked him in a match against Owen tomorrow night on RAW! Not only that, but it will be No Disqualification too! Shane stormed away, and between what we just saw and the vicious attack he led last week on HeAT, it seems like something has gotten into Shane McMahon.
A couple of replays are shown, recapping the victories Super Crazy and TAKA Michinoku have in the Light Heavyweight Open.
Light Heavyweight Open Semifinals: Super Crazy def. TAKA Michinoku(w/Sho Funaki): This was another hard fought bout in the Light Heavyweight Open, and Crazy was able to pick up another win with a Moonsault.
The fans applauded Crazy’s victory, who celebrated on the turnbuckles. Funaki helped his tag team partner to the outside, when all of a sudden Yoshihiro Tajiri slid into the ring! He stalked Crazy, waiting for him to get off the turnbuckles before spitting the green mist in his face again! The crowd jeered as Tajiri finished him off with a Buzzsaw Kick. Tajiri exchanged a glance with Michinoku and Funaki before leaving the ring, Super Crazy has advanced to the finals of the Light Heavyweight Open, and he will face Rey Mysterio tomorrow night on RAW, but he’s at a disadvantage after being the victim of two separate attacks from Tajiri.
Michael Cole announces that up next we will have exclusive footage of what Mr. McMahon had to say on the events that took place this past Monday on RAW is WAR with Stephanie, the Ministry, the Big Show, and Stone Cold Steve Austin!

Returning to Sunday Night HeAT, Michael Cole and Jim Cornette introduce us to an exclusive interview with Mr. McMahon, conducted by Jim Ross. The two men are seated in opposite couches as JR thanks Mr. McMahon for joining him, before asking him for his thoughts on what happened last Monday night on RAW with his daughter, Stephanie. McMahon calls the Undertaker a sick son of a bitch, saying he took it too far. He says it’s no secret him and the Undertaker have a problem, but there is NO reason to bring his family into it. He tells JR the Undertaker will pay for what he did to his family, but that’s not all. He says because of what the Undertaker and his Ministry did to his family and his home, the whole WWF locker room is on lockdown. He promises everybody will be watched and nobody better make the wrong step for their own good. JR asks if he could be acting irrationally, and McMahon answers back immediately, saying he’ll just do what’s best for his family’s safety. He says the Undertaker had his daughter and nobody gave a damn about it, and nobody tried to help her. He claims he will not be responsible for what may happen to the Undertaker and other WWF superstars in the future, because it will be their fault. He promises that we will see a much more aggressive Corporation tomorrow night on RAW, and nobody would dare cross them if they had a brain. JR mentions he said none of the WWF superstars tried to help Stephanie this past Monday on RAW, and reminds him Stone Cold Steve Austin himself briefly teamed up with the Big Show to take out the Ministry and save her. McMahon looks angered by the comment before saying, “You heard what Stone Cold said, JR. He didn’t do it for me, he didn’t do it for Stephanie. He didn’t give a damn about my family. The only reason why Stone Cold stopped the Undertaker is because Stone Cold wanted to. Stone Cold is not off the hook with me.” Before the interview wraps up, JR asks Mr. McMahon for his thoughts on the WWF Championship Triple Threat match scheduled for next Sunday. McMahon admits he is counting on the Big Show Paul Wight to take the WWF Championship and bring it back to the Corporation. He says he cannot have either Stone Cold or the Undertaker with the WWF Championship any longer. He promises the Big Show will not fail him at Backlash, and he will win the WWF Championship. Not only that, he says, but the Undertaker and Stone Cold will never hold the WWF Championship again! JR wraps up the interview and thanks Mr. McMahon for his time as Sunday Night HeAT goes to a break. It seems like Mr. McMahon is hell bent on making everybody suffer for what the Undertaker did to his family and home!

A video package is aired, hyping up the Four Corners match for the WWF Tag Team Championships next Sunday Night at Backlash. The Rock ‘N’ Sock Connection won the WWF Tag Team Championships back at WrestleMania XV, and have made multiple enemies in the process in the Acolytes, D-Generation X, and even the New Age Outlaws. A majority of the video is spent highlighting the war these four teams have waged on each other in recent weeks, which has really escalated over the past week. The inaugural edition of Backlash comes to you live on pay-per-view, April 25th!
WWF World Tag Team Champion The Rock(w/Mankind) def. Sean Waltman(w/DX) VIA DQ: About midway through this bout, Mankind and Triple H started brawling around ringside, prompting the referee to eject all parties out from the area. The match came to a sudden stop when the Jackyl led the Acolytes out to the ring, and the two proceeded to attack the Rock!
The Acolytes continued to pound away at the Rock in the corner until the Jackyl pointed out Waltman in the opposite corner ot them. Faarooq went over there and started to attack Waltman as Bradshaw continued the attack on the Rock. Eventually, Rock and Waltman started to fight back to a huge pop from the crowd, but their offense was quickly shut down by the former WWF Tag Team Champions. They tossed Waltman out of the ring before Bradshaw set Rock up for the double powerbomb. Suddenly, the New Age Outlaws hit the ring, and Billy Gunn unloaded on Bradshaw! Road Dogg picked up Rock’s WWF Tag Team Championship and drilled Faarooq with it before kicking him out of the ring. The Outlaws double teamed Bradshaw for a bit before Gunn got a little bit of revenge with the Fameasser! The capacity crowd in Grand Rapids applauded as the Outlaws stood tall, Road Dogg holding the WWF Tag Team Championship high in the air as Sunday Night HeAT went off the air.

4/18/99 EDITION: STONE COLD AND THE BIG SHOW TEAM UP TO BATTLE THE MINISTRY, BUT FOR HOW LONG? TWO WWF SUPERSTARS REPORTED INJURED; JUDGMENT DAY POSTER REVEALED!
RAW is WAR continues to be as unpredictable and exciting as ever, highlighted by the fact that STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN teamed up with none other than THE BIG SHOW PAUL WIGHT to take on the MINISTRY OF DARKNESS. Everybody knew Stone Cold was coming after THE UNDERTAKER that night, he even told us earlier on in a interview. But who would have expected “The Texas Rattlesnake” to team up with the Big Show to do so? It doesn’t seem like an alliance between Stone Cold and THE CORPORATION would last very long, even if it was to battle the Undertaker’s Ministry. But what if? It would certainly be interesting to see Stone Cold and McMahon forced to work together in order to better the bigger evil in the Ministry. Of course, this seem even less likely after the episode of Sunday Night HeAT we just watched. In Mr. McMahon’s interview with Jim Ross, he basically promised the superstars of the World Wrestling Federation will be punished because of what the Undertaker did to his family. What does McMahon have planned for the WWF Superstars? Is anybody off limits to the Corporation? Is anybody safe from the Ministry of Darkness? One interesting side plot is how even more ruthless the McMahons seem to becoming. The first hint of this was when Shane McMahon led the Corporation in a beatdown on both WWF Champion Steve Austin and Rikishi Phatu. Shane followed up with a brutal attack on “The Big Red Machine” KANE this past Monday on RAW, where he was brutalized by steel chairs, brass knuckles, and THE BIG BOSS MAN’S nightstick in the Corporate Gauntlet. It should be interesting to see how this storyline plays out in the coming months, with the McMahons, Big Show, the Undertaker, and Stone Cold all showing no mercy!
We here at the BATTLEGROUND, the home of the WWF, can confirm the injuries of two superstars. The more serious case between the two was the injury of “Harcore” BOB HOLLY, who suffered a broken ankle during a triple threat match with Rhyno and Steve Blackman during a house show due to a bad bump. Holly is expected to be out for at least eight weeks, meaning he wouldn’t be able to return to the ring until sometime late June. Even though Holly hasn’t been seen doing match since his alliance with former WWF Superstar Bart Gunn fizzled out, there were plans to push him to the Hardcore Championship. Perhaps we will see him involved with the title upon his return this summer. The other injury was suffered by THE GODFATHER, who was put out of action with a concussion which he received during a match with VAL VENIS a few weeks ago, the night after WrestleMania XV. It is nothing too serious, but he’s was advised to stay out of the ring for a few weeks, which would explain his recent absence. He is expected to be back in time for the first edition of Thursday Night SmackDown!, set to be taped on April 26th.
You can check out the poster for WWF Judgment Day here. This poster features one half of the WWF Tag Team Champions, THE ROCK, just one month after tag team partner MANKIND was featured. The Rock ‘N’ Sock are two of the most popular superstars in the WWF right now, and the Rock being on this poster should be no surprise considering he’s been featured in the main event since earlier this year, and he is rumored for a big push in the coming weeks.
Of course, no edition of THE BATTLEGROUND would be complete without the latest results from WWF’s World Tour.

WWF RAW is WAR: Monday 12th April 1999...A good decision to open up the show, with two weeks remaining prior to Backlash. Kane managing to get through the Mean Street Posse, Steven Regal and the Big Boss Man by disqualification was a nice touch, I also really like that Joey Abs is being positioned slightly above Rodney and Pete Gas, even if it does mean going into this Corporate Gauntlet after his teammates in the Posse. Shane McMahon then managing to defeat Kane made for an entertaining angle, and we are surely going to be awaiting a revenge segment for Kane. I like this: we have the Undertaker feuding with Vince McMahon...and then we have Kane feuding with Shane. I'm not sure how to feel about the "Big Red intellectually- disabled person" jersey though, not even for 1999. Maybe. Standards and Practices were different then than it is now. I like the sound of this six-man tag team match with Kane, Andrew Martin and Owen Hart facing Boss Man, Regal and Shane McMahon, and in classic Shane O'Mac manner, he made it himself, obviously in way over his head. The Undertaker's appearance was strange, but I did like it anyway. It helped promote the main angle for this episode of RAW: whatever the Ministry of Darkness plans to do with Stephanie McMahon. Ah, the Hardy Boys and the Brood meet in the first hour for a change! A good win for the Hardys, and I can predict seeing a fifth match in the series between the two coming up at Backlash, without a doubt. There's no way that Edge and Christian will somehow wind up losing next week on RAW is WAR. Stone Cold Steve Austin not giving a damn about the McMahons...that's an interesting twist. So we have three different sides on this roster: The Rebels, such as Kane, Owen Hart, Andrew Martin and Stone Cold - the Corporation - and the Ministry of Darness. Interesting dynamic, here. I'd like to see some superstars remain rebels, honestly. A nice level of neutrality, taking on all of the roster or any of the roster. Goldust defeating Mark Henry in the number one contender's match was a strange decision, as it seemed as though Mark Henry and D-Lo would be feuding from this point on. I suppose not, but it could extend this feud marginally. Perhaps we could see D-Lo and Mark at the May pay-per-view, the WWF European Championship on the line. I still can't see Goldust taking the title away from D-Lo at Backlash. Brown and Henry's feud is nothing without the title...unless you manage to make that work, anyway. I guess Goldust as WWF European Champion wouldn't be a bad thing. Up next, Team ECW; a fourth faction in the World Wrestling Federation? I liked their promo, as abysmal as it would have been in 1999, but alright. RVD facing Jeff Jarrett at Backlash should be good, but I can't help but feel like this feud could have been progressed in better ways. The Dudley Boyz having to defeat Rob Van Dam made for a stranger move, too. I'm not fond of Shane McMahon making this call, especially after earlier on tonight with Stephanie and the comments from the Undertaker. I'd have done something more comical and had Bubba Ray or D-Von Dudley lie down for RVD - I get that Van Dam is overcoming the odds, but dang, he needs to gain some more momentum. I guess it fit the Dudleys' characters, though. I forget that Triple H and Sean Waltman are linked to the Corporation, poor D-Generation X. Down the line, I could see Triple H taking over as the chosen one of the Corporation, using Vince to get to the WWF Championship similar to the Rock in late 1998. McMahon is becoming insane...I wonder if that could lead to a deep plot development. Up next, Rey Mysterio Jr qualifying into the finals of the Light Heavyweight Open tournament is nice, and we could very well be seeing a push for Mysterio Jr, winning the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship from Brian Christopher. I'd like that, as I feel as though Christopher's reign has definitely outstayed its welcome. I could also see big things for Mysterio in the merchandising department in 1999, focused on his masked luchador gimmick. Where Hayabusa goes from here should be an interesting. TAKA Michinoku and Sho Funaki making the save from Too Much also made this quite an interesting storyline. I would love Super Crazy to win, but on the other hand TAKA Michinoku would be great to see come out victorious and go on to face Mysterio. Quite unpredictable, I'm interested. Hahaha, the WWF Hardcore Championship has reached new heights, as Al Snow and Steve Blackman met up in what seemed to be a brutal brawl backstage. Rhyno's involvement continues to be intriguing. I need some more character and matches from Rhyno really, to understand exactly what role he is portraying. Right now he's just "in the hardcore division". I need a bit more to work from. The triple threat match at Backlash for the Hardcore title sounds cool, but that's two triple threat matches made, and three multi-man every-man-for-himself matches on the card for Backlash. A little too much. But it is 1999, so I'll let you off. Ah joy, a promo with the Pretty Mean Sisters. I liked it, and I liked the big focus on the womens division without this segment - it may be the biggest promo of the show up to now, funnily enough. Hmm, Sable and Jacqueline settling their feud one more time was cool - a bit last minute to announce a contender to Ivory's WWF Women's Championship though, perhaps. I see Jacqueline somehow pulling out the stops (or with PMS' involvement), though. Don't rush Sable confronting Ivory for the title! Wow, Scorpio is still on the roster? Very interesting, but expected win for Val Venis, and I liked his promo beforehand. Strange stipulation added with Last Man Standing, but it should put this slowly expiring feud with Ken Shamrock over Ryan Shamrock to rest, once and for all. I see Venis retaining for some reason. A reign for Shamrock would be nice to see, though. Poor Chris Jericho, practically lost in the fold. I'd like to see Y2J help Venis set Shamrock up on Sunday Night HeAT or RAW is WAR, personally. And in our in-ring main event, Triple H defeating Mankind, Bradshaw and Road Dogg was nice, but it was strange that the Rock came to ringside to be in Mankind's corner, whilst Billy Gunn, Faarooq and Sean Waltman were all not present. I liked Triple H stealing the win, but it should be interesting to see where this goes from here. Meanwhile, the brutality on display from the Acolytes was a nice enough feature. It should be interesting to see where this goes. I'm just surprised that Gunn and Waltman didn't appear at all. Strange. And lastly, I'd have liked to have seen this final promo built up a bit more throughout the show, perhaps with ominous vignettes from the Undertaker, much like we saw earlier on in the show after the Corporate Gauntlet. Wow, a very big promo though, condensing the faction war between the Corporation, the Ministry of Darkness and Stone Cold Steve Austin, as well as forwarding the Undertaker, Paul Wight and Steve Austin's rivalry. I liked Austin and Big Show unintentionally teaming up to take out the Ministry too, and an unconfirmed alliance between Austin and Vince McMahon. Could we see a potential twist in the future with Austin and McMahon becoming allies? Time will tell. Good work with this promo dominated episode of RAW is WAR; outside of a few booking errors here or there, I enjoyed this the most out of the past couple of episodes following WrestleMania XV.
WWF Sunday Night HeAT: Sunday 18th April 1999...A decent opening promo as expected from the Ministry of Darkness, led by the Undertaker. Good comments from the Undertaker, and it should be interesting as to how Stone Cold Steve Austin may be sacrified on the go-home edition of RAW is WAR tomorrow night, six days before Backlash. The Big Show's involvement? I guess I'll have to wait and check it out when it occurs. I assume that we could see the Stone Cold crucifixion angle utilized, though. Andrew Martin with a victory against the Big Boss Man was nice, although it was strange to see Boss Man use the brass knuckles from Steven Regal, rather than use his own nightstick. Martin overcame the odds here though, and that gained him more momentum to become more popular in the undercard section of the WWF roster. Owen Hart then making the save for Martin was a good decision, although I'd have kept the six-foot-six Martin strong, being one of the most convincing-looking superstars in that match, next to Kane. Test would benefit from making the save for Owen Hart, rather. But I understand this decision. Regal facing Hart tomorrow night on RAW is WAR rounds up the promotion for the six-man tag team match. No-Disqualification? It shall be interesting to see what prevails. Shane McMahon sure is power hungry. Super Crazy beat TAKA Michinoku? Wow, Mexican promotion! I expect a lot of lucha-libre tomorrow night between Rey Mysterio Jr and Super Crazy. I still anticipate Mysterio getting the win and winning the entire Light Heavyweight Open tournament, leading on to beating Brian Christopher for the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship come Backlash. Wow, an interview with Jim Ross and Vince McMahon. I liked the segment, as it revealed McMahon's thoughts on this entire scenario. McMahon not done with his rivalry with Stone Cold Steve Austin was nice, coming off as confident and prepared to do whatever it takes to return the WWF Championship to the Corporation...but for the WWF Championship to return to Steve Austin, or go to the Ministry of Darkness' Undertaker seems more likely to occur. And lastly, the Rock defeating Sean Waltman made for a decent main event to HeAT, as it followed with a big brawl between the four teams feuding over the WWF Tag Team Championships. What you've done with the tag team division is impeccable, but there'll come a time where you need a lot of fresh faces in the title hunt, because superstars like The Rock, Triple H, Mankind and possibly Sean Waltman or Billy Gunn will need to progress up the card. Nonetheless, a great progressional week for WWF programming, and I'm excited to see what you have in store for us in the final seven days before Backlash next Sunday. My only complaint with this week of television really, was the lack of more backstory behind Jeff Jarrett and Rob Van Dam's feud. A promo with Jarrett explaining his disapproval of RVD leaving the Corporation would be nice to see.
