I was surfing around facebook like I usually do on any given day, but when I tried to comment on a wall post on my cousin's page, the following message popped up: Now, I don't know if any of you guys have gotten this message as well, but apparently it's been happening to a lot of members of the past week or so. I believe it's a scam of some sort, but it is virtually impossible to contact facebook. And if it actually is from facebook, why do they need our personal information? This is a direct violation of privacy and they need to deal with this problem asap.

Don't do it. You'll get phished almost immediately. This was one of the biggest types of scams back when Myspace was so popular. They'd take your photo, frame it with a media player pic, and have "one of your firends" say that "you need to check out this vid of yourself!" You click it, it asks for your info, and then it phishes out whatever personal info that you've put into your account.
Yeah dude, I wouldn't trust anything that asks for my credit info, that doesn't have it already.

So what is the facebook community to do? Just wait it out until it causes enough of an uproar?

Wait, you're worried about Facebook violating your privacy? Do you already know that they own everything you post and can use it however they please?

Wait, you're worried about Facebook violating your privacy? Do you already know that they own everything you post and can use it however they please? Which is why I wouldn't put anything on Facebook that I wouldn't tell a complete stranger to their face. The solution is simple. Don't put your biz out there, and don't be stupid. Giving your credit info to an unknown source is, well, stupid.

Wait, you're worried about Facebook violating your privacy? Do you already know that they own everything you post and can use it however they please? Wrong. They changed that policy long ago.

They don't just " change the policy " Sure they'll say they will, but I'm sure they still own tons of information and can use it however they want. I'm just waiting for them to charge everyone for using it, and then I'll laugh at those who go back to Myspace only to remember they deleted all their stuff.

The day that someone tries to charge me actual American currency to talk to my friends over an internet that I'm already paying too much for, is the day that I break out my rolodex and start using the old house phone.

I get your point, but FB is how I keep in touch with my extended family. I haven't really used any applications in about a month, but people have also gotten the message after posting on group pages, which I've been doing as well, to an extent. It also seems to be completely random, as I tried to comment on that same post today and it went through without error.

In a few years, everyone will be on Twitter. Facebook will become the new Myspace.
