I hated my team predraft. There are 2 places I hate drafting #1 and last. I prefer 4-8.....but would have taken 2 or 9 just the same.

For the fantasy league, what about dropping the 3rd WR? So it would be 2 RB, 2WR, and a flex. Is 3 WR plus a flex standard? Never played with more than 2 before.

Pre-Season Power Rankings
1. Chicago Vuvuzelas The Chicago Vuvuzelas used the first overall pick to assemble the league’s most balanced team, and take the pre-season number one ranking in the WF Fantasy League Rankings. Chris Johnson leads a star-studded lineup that includes 2009 fantasy studs like Roddy White and Brett Favre, as well as potential emerging stars in Arian Foster and Michael Crabtree. Tight End is the team’s weakest position heading into the season, as Fred Davis is stuck in a timeshare at the position with Chris Cooley, but they do have depth at wide receiver including Malcom Floyd, Jabbar Gaffney, and Nate Burleson who are all potential fantasy starters.
Best pick: WR Roddy White, 24th overall (ADP 17) Biggest Reach: RB Matt Forte, 25th overall (ADP 39)
2. Happytown Gobsoppers The Gobstoppers had some great value picks early in the draft which included perennial stud Maurice Jones-Drew slipping to 4th overall and Calvin Johnson, whom many consider to be the most talented receiver in the NFL, falling to 21st overall. The team didn’t stray from their draft strategy, assembling easily the best starting trio of receivers in the league; which should make them a force to be reckoned with in a league with receivers being so thin. The Gobstoppers’ weak point, as expected with such strong wide receivers, is their backfield. Although Marion Barber and Ronnie Brown make for quality starters, both are injury-prone and the lack of depth behind them (Tim Hightower, Montario Hardesty, Mewelde Moore) could lead to disaster if they do go down again.
Best pick: WR Calvin Johnson, 21st overall (ADP 12) Biggest Reach: DEF Cincinnati Bengals, 165th overall (ADP 200)
3. Kliquid’s Glory Road Glory Road is a classic example of “boom-or-bust.” Adrian Peterson, Rashard Mendenhall, and Ryan Mathews are easily the best group of starting running backs in the league, but the wide receivers suffered as a result of those picks. With Vincent Jackson missing at least three and potentially six or more games due to suspension, Glory Road will have to rely on Mario Manningham and Santana Moss to step up and start early in the year. Donovan McNabb is already nursing an injury, which leaves the potential train wreck of Matt Leinart being the team’s starting quarterback early in the year. The running backs themselves could almost single-handedly win many games for this team, but Glory Road is an injury to Adrian Peterson away from falling to the bottom of the rankings.
Best pick: RB Ryan Mathews, 27th overall (ADP 15) Biggest Reach: WR Louis Murphy, 123rd overall (ADP 160)
4. New Jersey Warriors The New Jersey Warriors used an often under-utilized draft strategy to assemble a group of veteran players at every position. Although the team does not include many picks that would make people “ooh and ahh,” the roster is very solid and full of players who have proven themselves to be consistent scorers. The potential downfall of this team is that although it is full of players who have proven to be solid, none of them appear to be in line to be an elite player at their position. However, with potential studs like Joseph Addai on the bench, the Warriors left themselves with plenty of trade-bait and the chance for a deep run in the playoffs.
Best pick: RB Joseph Addai, 65th overall (ADP 47) Biggest Reach: RB Ryan Grant, 17th overall (ADP 27)
5. Atlanta Grapists Don’t call them homers – the Atlanta Grapists got good value selecting Michael Turner in the first round of the draft. Turner, who is coming off an injury-riddled 2009 season, is expected to be back to full health and could again contend for the league’s rushing title in 2010. Quarterback Tony Romo is coming off of his fourth straight season with a QB rating above 90 and his receivers have never been better; and tight end Jermichael Finley has looked unstoppable in the pre-season. The big problem area with this team appears to be depth, particularly at the running back position. Devin Aromashodu is currently in the team’s starting lineup at RB/WR, which should tell the story as to what is behind him on the bench.
Best pick: TE Jermichael Finley, 67th overall (ADP 49) Biggest Reach: RB Marshawn Lynch, 150th overall (ADP 167)
6. Jim Rome’s Goatee Another great group of starting wide receivers and a potential stud running back in Frank Gore makes Jim Rome’s Goatee a contender going into the year. Brandon Marshall, Marques Colston, and Jeremy Maclin are all excellent starters at their position, but the complete lack of depth behind them (the team currently does not have any WR’s on the bench) makes them risky. The team did, however, load up on ‘handcuff’ running backs, including Thomas Jones, Fred Jackson, Chester Taylor, and Javon Ringer – all of whom could be fantasy stars if the starting running back on their team gets hurt. Many expect Ahmad Bradshaw to take over the starting running back job in New York, but his value is limited until he starts getting the majority of the carries.
Best pick: RB Ahmad Bradshaw, 79th overall (ADP 55) Biggest Reach: RB Ricky Williams, 55th overall (ADP 80)
7. Team Stanley Team Stanley shocked all of us when they selected quarterback Aaron Rodgers with the 2nd pick in Sunday night’s draft. Although Rodgers is widely considered the top quarterback in the draft, his value is not high enough to be selected as high as he was in the draft. Fortunately, the team was able to rebound, making the excellent selections of Shonn Greene and Greg Jennings in subsequent rounds. The receiver position is thin behind the starters, though, as Joey Galloway, Chris Chambers, and Legedu Naanee are the only other receivers on the roster.
Best pick: WR Pierre Garcon, 79th overall (ADP 58) Biggest Reach: QB Aaron Rodgers, 2nd overall (ADP 8)
8. Boston Lorenzo Alcazar Lorenzo was gifted a potential elite running back in Ray Rice with the 5th overall pick and used that to load up at the position, later acquiring Cedric Benson and Jahvid Best to fill his starting lineup. Wide receivers are the big question mark as the Panthers’ Steve Smith, Terrell Owens, and Lee Evans all struggled in 2009. Matt Ryan will also need to rebound from a disappointing 2009 season where it looked like he took a step back in his development.
Best pick: RB Jahvid Best, 53rd overall (ADP 40) Biggest Reach: RB Cedric Benson, 20th overall (ADP 30)
9. Enter Funny Name Here It’s always confusing to me when a team has two running backs on the same team in their starting lineup, but that’s exactly what Enter Funny Name Here is going to attempt to do to start the season with Saints backs Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush. Focusing on receivers by selecting studs like Larry Fitzgerald and Wes Welker, this team apparently decided to neglect the running back position; and is stuck with just Kevin Smith and Julius Jones behind the trio of DeAngelo Williams, Pierre Thomas, and Reggie Bush. Instead of drafting backup quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the 10th round, perhaps a back like Darren McFadden, Montario Hardesty, or Cadillac Williams would have been beneficial.
Best pick: WR Wes Welker, 59th overall (ADP 29) Biggest Reach: RB DeAngelo Williams, 11th overall (ADP 22)
10. Revis & Butthead Revis & Butthead drafted great consistency with Randy Moss and Peyton Manning in rounds one and two, but the reach for Peyton Manning at 13th overall may be the eventual downfall of this team. Although Manning can be penciled in for a top-3 finish at quarterback, this team could have looked a lot better if Manning would’ve been passed on in round two to draft another stud receiver or even a solid running back like Ryan Grant or Shonn Greene. If this strategy was implemented, it is likely that Matt Schaub would have fallen to the team for his round four pick; which would have been significantly better value than Manning at 13 overall. Instead, the running back position looks very iffy, relying on a lot of young and unproven talent in LeSean McCoy and CJ Spiller, with aging back Clinton Portis. With only Toby Gerhart on the bench, these will likely be the team’s starting running backs for the foreseeable future, which is a very big risk.
Best pick: WR Randy Moss, 12th overall (ADP 9) Biggest Reach: QB Peyton Manning, 13th overall (ADP 20)
11. Team V Everything started off great for this team in round one when consensus top receiver Andre Johnson shockingly fell to 10th overall in a league where teams can potentially start up to four wide receivers per week. But it quickly fell apart in round two with the selection of Tom Brady at 15. Although Tom Brady may be considered one of the all-time greats, he is not considered to be in the top-tier of quarterbacks this season, and the selection of him this early meant missing out on a second stud wide out like Miles Austin, Brandon Marshall, Reggie Wayne, or Calvin Johnson. It also led to panic in round three when Jamaal Charles was the best remaining running back, while a plethora of other quarterback talent remained. Team V did end up acquiring Anquan Boldin and Devery Henderson who should combine with Andre Johnson to make one of the better trios in the league, but the complete disaster at the running back position has this team near the bottom of the pre-season rankings.
Best pick: WR Andre Johnson, 10th overall (ADP 5) Biggest Reach: QB Tom Brady, 15th overall (ADP 28)
12. Los Angeles Ambalamps This roster is an example of why I continually stress to not overdraft quarterbacks. Although Drew Brees is certainly considered a league MVP candidate, he plays a position that there is a lot of depth at. By taking Brees in round one, the Ambalamps missed out on wide receiver Andre Johnson, who plays a position with significantly less high-quality talent. This mistake was somewhat fixed in round two with the selection of Miles Austin, but it also led to Jonathan Stewart – who is not even the ‘starting’ running back on his own team – being the Ambalants’ running back going into the season. With only Mike Bell on the bench at running back, the Ambalamps have to hope that not only do their running backs produce higher than their expected numbers, but that they also stay healthy all season.
Best pick: WR Miles Austin, 16th overall (ADP 14) Biggest Reach: WR Bernard Berrian, 81st overall (ADP 131)

I immediately regretted picking Forte then. Right after I picked him I got visions of the game the Bears just 'played' and how awful they looked. I just wasn't sold on some of the other RBs available. Matthews I'm still not sure about, and some of the others were not full starters. I figured Forte was pissed about last year too and he might be able to rebound. I And I kept forgetting about a TE because I missed the top ones, then I figured I would be able to get one of the ok guys later and fill up my bench, but some people were drafting two TEs.
Favre was an autopick for some reason, I'm not really sure how it happened. I didn't mean to draft a QB then, but I guess it worked out. I'm hoping he stays healthy. Drafting at the turn was hard because I really had to plan ahead and look at what everyone else was drafting.
Thanks for doing the power rankings. These should be fun to read as the season progresses.
