I got a job lot of LJN's a while ago and received this with it. I just came across it whilst finding figures to sell or trade and I vaguely remember there being a Bret in red or talk of one as a prototype and just wondered if this was the neidhart or if its custom etc. I would of thought if it was custom then they would of surely touched it all up rather then just the tights?

You have it in hand, so you should be the best judge around. I have seen the Hitman prototype on eBay and it does have a more reddish color to his tights.
From the picture it does appear as if the Anvil has been painted over as especially the black kneepads look more glossy.
I own a Jimmy Hart prototype. It is made from cast resin and is slightly bigger than the regular version. I was told that the rubber shrinks a little bit after molding and obviously resin does not.
Is your figure made of rubber or cast resin?
Btw.... If I remember correctly you posted the same question a few years back.

It seems completely rubber (but I have no experience with the material resin) and all of the paint is as of the same consistency and gloss/shine in person. Thinking about it I actually did ask you before STOM via PM and meant to send you pics but never got around to it.

Resin is a hard plastic type material with no give, It looks like your figure is made of rubber. If you dare... you can scratch a very tiny area under the kneepad line and see if it's purple/pink. If it was custom painted then the color should show up, (it's almost impossible to erase the paint around the ridges under the kneepad) + majority of custom paint jobs can be scratched very easily. If you see purple/pink then you know it's been custom painted, if not then there is a great chance it's authentic. But I don't recall the ljn prototypes/test shots being made of rubber. Good luck finding out.

Look on Ebay under "Brett Hitman Hart LJN Wrestling Figure PROTOTYPE". The one listed is broken in a few places, but still color matches the one in your photo.
