I think the point they are trying to make is that since Paulo wasn't really at 100%, there was little to no actual fighting in the 3rd round, and Chael didn't leave with the belt. It doesn't make the win invalid, just kind of takes the meaning out of the win.

I'm not saying Sonnen doesn't have a W next to his name when you look up the fight, I'm simply saying he didn't exactly do anything to get the win. Much of the fight was the two circling the cage, with Filho looking into the 5th row and Sonnen throwing meaningless jabs. Yes, Sonnen technically won, but what did he do to earn the victory? Outlast his opponent who was clearly on several different narcotics? When listing Sonnen's accomplishments, listing the "He beat Paulo Filho" on his resume does nothing at all. Like I said, Sonnen didn't beat Filho. Cocaine beat Paulo Filho. |

Well of course it wasn't exact a "feat" to beat a coked up Filho, but regardless Sonnen won. The wording of your first post was completely trying to discredit Sonnen as if it were his fault Filho is a  up. Like if Matt Hughes came in dog drunk to his 2nd fight with GSP, giving GSP an easy win, and me saying " GSP, he doesn't deserve sh**! Matt was drunk! GSP is a joke." And before anyone's head explodes, that was JUST an example, I'm in no way comparing Sonnen to St.Pierre or Hughes to Filho. |

Well it IS Sonnen's fault he didn't finish the fight, or really even attempt to. He was gun shy to even attempt to engage with Filho, who probably didn't even know he was even in a fight. Like I've said for a couple years now. Sonnen is a good, not great fighter. He's EXTREMELY prone to submissions and doesn't finish fights. I don't agree at all with an immediate rematch. I see Silva making major adjustments and ending the fight early. |

I've seen crazier things happen. I honestly see this fight playing out like the Luther or Henderson fight. Sonnen takes the first round, but Silva gets his distance figured out by round two.

I believe Chael blew his one shot at beating Silva too. I'm a huge fan, but can't let that stand in the way of reality.
I'll still pull for him in the rematch, but I wouldn't be shocked/upset if Silva finishes him decisively in the 1st or 2nd round.

I remember watching that flip as it happened, and thinking "Alright, he can get his face beaten to a bloody mess and I'll still forever give him props for that."
Wasn't anything SPECTACULAR, but it looked cool and didn't look like something Sonnen would do.

Combat Roll was pretty epic. He doesn't deserve an immediate rematch (see:Penn/Edgar 2) but he can very well take it if he works on some goddamn sub defense. and I'm totally calling him "Dashing" Chael Sonnen from now on. |

I just laughed at that when Chael almost dropped Anderson. I would always hear those "Anderson would rule in K-1!!!" statements, and he gets dropped by a wrestler? hah.
