My adventure starts much like most do.....with my MBMG(MechanicsBurg Machine Guns....sillyness) Tag Team Partner, DJKnightRida. We took the 30 minute drive to York on Thursday, September 16 to York, PA and the York Fair.....the oldest town fair in America. With a threat of rain, we decided to hit up a Walmart and pickup a pair of ponchos to help stay drive. It turned into the best investment all day.
We got to the York Fair around noon time and went inside. Parking was only $6, very reasonable and we had free passes to get in, so we were set. We walked around a bit. DJKnightRida got hustled by a carny at a dart throwing game, but I stepped in and saved his ass by busting the balloons myself and winning the prize. After a bit, we hit up some food. Usually fair food is really good. Not this time. After seeing your standard pizza, funnel cake, fries, hot dogs and burgers.....we decided to hit up a chicken pita. Sounded good, looked great. Tasted like shit. My lunch cost me $17 and I got a cold sandwich, a dog bowl.....no seriously, it was a dog bowl of fries and a soda. The fries were under cook and the soda was flat. So NOT worth it. At this point it began to drizzle rain.
After the first shower cleared, I decided I wanted to have my cariacture done. I love these things and how they turn out. I have had it done twice before, but this guy was offering one in color. I had never had a color one done, so I decided to pay the $15 and get it done. SO GLAD I DID......AWESOME!
The artist was impressed with how it turned out, he took a pic of me holding it up and was going to put it on his website. I gave the guy a $5 tip and then the rain returned. We hit out in DJKnight's car until about 5pm and then hit the gate.
At this point, it was about a half hour till meet/greet time. There were quite a few people already there. They were about 15 mins. late in starting, but the meet/greet was well worth it. We finally got iin and behind the curtains were Jeff Hardy, Pope, MCMG, Madison Rayne, Shannon Moore, Rhino, Jesse Neal, Velvet Sky, Abyss and others. The only 2 that were missing were Jeff Jarrett, Samoa Joe and AJ Styles.
It was pretty much just you walking up to people and getting whatever you wanted signed and getting photos. I spotted D-Low Brown and quickly marked out for him. I got a photo and continued along. I noticed Jeff had a HUGE crowd and just worked the rest of the room. Evidently, at one point I must have barreled over Madison Rayne. Madison had changed her hair color and I had didnt know it was her, nor did I even spot her when I was trying to get Shannon Moore's autograph. I wasnt the only one not to spot her, as she remained alone right by Shannon for quite some time before people started to take notice or were told. When I was finally told it was Madison, I got into line. When I got up to her, she told me what had happened. Of course I apologized profusely. Madison was all cool about it.
After cleaning up on much of the roster, I decided to get into Jeff's line. It didnt take too long before getting up to Jeff and I was quickly greeted by a very manly bro hug. Ahem...did I say manly. Jeff is a hugger, at least with me he is. We exchanged pleasantries....I congratulated him on being a daddy and he told me its the best thing that could ever had happened to him. You could tell how excited he was about it. He went on to ask us if we had seen episode 1 of season 10 of THS? I am a dvd buyer of THS and not a subscriber to the site. So I said I didnt and he told me that DJ and I were all over the place in the first episode. He said it was crazy.
After meet/greet we went to goto our seats. The rain was coming down harder and we had 4th row, so it wasnt anything special. We decided to abandon our seats and seek shelter under the roof of the grandstand. So we sat up in the grandstand watched the show. The show was what it could be, considering the weather. I felt bad for the workers going out there and trying to wrestle in the rain. I honestly believe they should have canceled the show than to force these guys in those unsafe working conditions. The crowd itself was pretty hot all night long. I'm sure TNA was loving that. By the time the main event rolled in, the rain had mostly stopped. The ring and ringside was still a mess though. We had purchased the backstage pass for intermission and I we were EXTREMELY dissapointed, as they decided to scratch intermission and just finish the show. They took us backstage after the show only to meet the same people who were also going out around ringside and were signing. In essence we paid for a backstage pass to get autos from people we would have gotten anyway, minus Jeff who was doing the in ring photos. I still wholeheartedly claim the backstage pass is more than worth the extra $50 you pay, as long as you get to go at intermission. And now you even get the in ring photo included with your pass.....which makes it a no brainer.
All in all, the York show was good. Got a lot of items signed and a few pictures. But we were excited to head home and get ready for Wilkes-Barre the next day.
So Friday comes about and I wake up in the morning with one of those feelings of an awesome night. 9.9 times out of 10.....they turn out just like that. We take the 2 hour drive to WB. When we arrive, we see there is a decent line...perhaps 80 deep. So we go down and stand in line. TNA is on the ball today, as 5:30pm rolls around and they are letting us in. Don West quickly recognizes us from last night the previous TNA shows telling the crowd to ask us about how great the meet/greet is. He goes through his normal speech and we get inside. DJKnightRida and I head for our seats and notice people are not actually surrounding the barriers, per instructions. Everyone seems to be just going to their seats. They must think that the wrestlers are going to come to them. We had great seats in the first row, near the corner, opposite the entrance stage. The floor was packed and the upper deck was mostly full....I'll say 75% full. The last time TNA was in the area, they drew no more than 200 fans. This time they had to have cleared over 1200.....possibly 1500 fans. They did a fantastic job of getting butts in seats this year.
15 minutes into it, the first wave of guys begin to come out. One of our biggest wants, AJ Styles comes out. AJ did not sign the previous night, so we had hope for Samoa Joe. Then the usuals come out with MCMG, Pope, Madison, Abyss and others. Names that did not come out were Hardy, Jarrett, Velvet and Joe. But Jarrett and Velvet were announced to be signing after the show for free and Hardy would be doing in ring photos. The only person for both days that did not participate in any of the fan interactions.......Samoa Joe. Sadly, Joe was probably the second most over person in WB too.
The show was 10X better and probably the best TNA house show I have been too. Organized, professional and running smooth. I was annoyed that they had this giant spot light lit that shined right down in the seats right around me. It provided issues with taking good pictures and not having shots distorted cuz of the light into the lens. But I worked around it.
Luckily, I spoke to Don West about getting one of those backstage passes for the evening before they went on sale. They always limit the number of passes they sell.....from 25-50 will be sold. I dont remember how many he sold, but Don let me buy mine before they went on sale. So big ups to Don West for taking care of 2 diehards. There is always a mad rush at the merch. stand for these and they sell out quick. I was glad I didnt need to get caught up in that.
We got some really good matches before intermission. I was also glad that since we were seeing the same matches from York, they did change the finishes up in most cases. The opening bout was great between AJ/Jarrett. MCMG/Ink Inc. really showed some strong chemistry. This could be a good feud. And of course, Velvet/Madison made all the guys drool.
Finally, intermission came and we went backstage. It was cool to actually see how this large size arena was setup backstage. WWE runs out of Mohegan when they are in WB. They took us backstage and pretty much everyone was in their wrestling gear, in full gimmick. MCMG had just come in from the curtains, but were there and ready to sign. I got a great in gear photo op with them. Velvet, Rhino, Pope, Hardy, Jarrett and Ink Inc. were also back there. Jeff was in full gear with his face painted just like his new shirt. Once again, I cleaned up on all other names outside of Hardy first and then went to Hardy. While I was getting a promo signed by Ink Inc. AJ came busting through the door and went ape shit. Many of you I am sure have seen the youtube vid that JB posted about this "incident". Shannon and Jesse were all worried and totally kayfabing it. At the time I didnt understand why they were acting serious about it and now that there is a vid on it.....now I do. After it was over, they went back to doing their thing. Both thanked me being so supportive of TNA and they have seen me at a lot of shows. I thanked them for doing what they do.
Once everyone else was done, I got into Jeff's line. Once I got to the front, I was once again greeted with one of those manly bro hugs. Ahem....MANLY. All manly. Nothing weird about 2 men hugging, wearing the same shirt and wearing nail polish. Nope....totally manly. He asked me how my drive was and when if we had come in last night or today. I asked him about his drive and he said he and Ink Inc. drove through the mountains the night before with the windows open and just enjoying the night. I pulled out the original BF 2010 poster with Jeff, Kurt and Anderson on it and the banners in the background saying 10-10-10 and he asked me where I got that. I told him it was the original poster TNA had done before they decided to ruin it with Hogan on it. He laughed and said he definitely preferred the old one. I got that and my TNA Jeff Hardy promo signed. I got a picture with Jeff, which turned out great considering his face paint matched the new shirt. He told me to enjoy the show and he would see me out there. Before I left though, I made sure to show him the pic. of me with Thomas Simpson (a founding father of Omega) and Jeff went ape crapand wanted to know where it was taken. I told him and about sitting around chatting with Thomas about Omega. He told me Thomas was doing some shows down in South Carolina that Jeff was going to be apart of and told me that I should come down for them. Somehow I doubt I will be taking the trip, but I appreciated the invite.
Back to the arena we went and watched Joe demolish Kaz, in what was a repeat of the night before including his after match speech. At this point I had looked around and noticed that this arena was full of Jeff Hardy shirts. Never had I seen such a high percentage actually wearing a Hardy shirt of some sort. It was crazy! Abyss was out first. I had a "Hardy Show Mark" sign, which Abyss tried to snatch from me to destroy. I had a feeling he might try and do that....so I held on tight and was able to pull away. I got a pop from the crowd and that only infuriated Abyss, as he got into the ring. Of course when Jeff came out, the roof freaking exploded in there! Jeff went all the way around ringside, slapping hands with the fans. He came to me and can you guess? Yup.......MANLY BRO HUG. Hmmmm........we are on like the 4th bro hug in 2 days.
The main event is a Monster's Ball match, just like the night before. I think this one was a bit more hard hitting and definitely saw more offense by Abyss and less by Jeff. Cookie sheets, chairs and trash cans were used and even thumbtacks. The finish came when Abyss laid out the tacks and Jeff made his come back. He hit the twist of fate right by the tacks. He climbed to the corner and was going for the swanton, but Abyss got up and knocked Jeff, crotching him in the corner. Abyss climbed up onto the second rope and Jeff fought back and then hit a sunset flip powerbomb on Abyss into the tacks. Jeff gets up, swanton and pin. Both men have tacks in them. Jeff does his normal celebration and the crowd goes nuts.
The lights come up and Jeff is in the ring with the remnants of Monster's Ball. He picks up the cookie sheet he used to smash Abyss over the head with and raises it into the air. He looks over at me and nods and then tosses the cookie sheet right to me. Flawlessly, I catch it and this time there is no struggle or anything. He then begins to toss cookie sheets into the crowd. He throws the trash can lid out as well. Fans are going home with great souvenirs. One of the security guards, that we affectionately call Papa Wang Yang cuz he looks like Jimmy Wang Yangs dad (you can spot him on Impact from time to time) grabs the trash can that was used and walks over towards me. I wave him over and he hands me the trash can. I give the trash can to DJKnightRida, as I have no place to put this huge can and I had already gotten the cookie sheet, so I was happy.
They started to sweep the tacks up and setup the camera for the in ring photos and the line begins to form. Jeff jumps out of the ring and comes over to me and asks me how I enjoyed the show. I thanked him for the cookie sheet and he asked me if I wanted him to sign it and he did. He signed DJ's trash can and started to sign other people's stuff in my section. Jeff got back into the ring, after signing for a dozen or so people and started the photos. The other wrestlers started to come out to sign for people. We hung around ringside, hoping for Joe and even Abyss to come out again as we wanted our new souvenirs to be signed by Abyss. Sadly, neither did.
After we felt it was safe that no one else was coming, I was going to jump into the Jeff line and thats when we noticed that the line was stretched from one side of the arena and wrapped around to the other. The line was so long that it blended into the line on the other side of building where Jeff Jarrett and Velvet were signing and started to cause confusion. Since Jeff's line was so long, we hit Velvet and Jarrett first and got through that pretty quickly and then we took the long wait for Jeff. There must have been an issue with the camera, which began to cause a delay. So Jeff jumped out of the ring and started to sign for people. I saw a couple of kids and their mother, who I had talked to earlier in the evening and were big Jeff fans standing right where I was sitting trying to get Jeff to come over. Little kids and little voices didnt help. Security was screaming at Jeff to get back into the ring for photos. I went back to my seat and offered some assistance. I called over to Jeff and he looked over. I told him how these 2 little boys were such big fans and really wanted an auto. Jeff came over and I tossed him the kids dvds into the ring and he signed them and tossed them back and then went back to photos.
Back to the line I waited. Once it was my turn and I got to the apron, I looked at Atlas security and told him to hold open the ropes for the champ. He laughed. He asked me what I was the champion of and I told him I would have to get back to him. The people in front of me asked Jeff for an auto before they took the photo. Jeff quickly signed it and that sent Atlas in a tizzy. They said "Jeff....last one. No more. Look at this line. No more autos. We got to get through this". Then it was my turn. First, in traditional Jeff Hardy/Cm Showstopper fashion......BRO HUG! Then Jeff says to me....want me to sign your shirt? I laughed and told him no, cuz I would actually like to wash this one unlike the last one. I asked him for a stare down photo and got a great shot. He said he loved the idea and told me he would see me next week. I said goodbye and we took off.
Thats pretty much how this week's adventure went. I'll be back next week with a whole new crop of stories in my ever continuing wrestling adventures and bro hugs from Jeff Hardy. Over under is at 4.5 bro hugs for next week. Who's got what? Enjoy the pics.
